I just wanted to say thank you for taking your time and effort to what you are doing. I’m 54 years old and have a guitar in my hands since I was a kid but never really learned songs all the way through until I found your site. And started watching your videos And i truly wish I had known about you years ago. You have made me actually feel like I can play the guitar. I can play the guitar now before of you. I still have a long way to go but you Sir, will continue to play a big part of my life as a guitar player. I know this video “Jet Airliner” is a few years old but I will continue to watch and learn your videos. I cannot thank you enough. Matthew N.
Hey guys, if anybody cares, I'm the guy who got into jazz band at school. So glad that I did because one of the songs we're playing is free bird. So legit right?!!! Anyways Keep on rockin dudes!
+James James ~ Thank you for posting Paul's original version in your other video and giving him the credit he so richly deserves. Almost no one knows this is a Paul Pena song. Paul's cousin Leroy is my drummer and I heard the story from him. We do learn some- thing every day, don't we? Paul was an amazing and supremely talented man. For those who don't know him, check the movie "Genghis Blues," a wonderful tale of discovery and love of music.
Fantastic man, I'm new around here and in your older channel, and let me tell you...You are a monster playing! Keep it up! question, who introduced you this type of music?
+The BoogeyMan Welcome to this channel. I don't play guitar but I love to watch and listen to how James plays. By the way, just so you know, he does not take requests. In the past he had done them but got tired of it and wants to play mainly what he chooses.
PT/JJ, the riff (which you chose not to play) always reminded me of the riff that Clapton did for Crossroads, just in a different key? What do you think?
Jared Wolfsen I thought the same exact thing when I heard Clapton's version of Crossroads at the Cream reunion, he plays the riff a bit differently now than he did originally and it is pretty similar to Jet Airliner, which is in a different key. I believe Crossroads is in A and Jet Airliner is in E. It's nice to see I'm not the only one who thought they sounded remarkably similar!
+Space Cowboy ~ Miller's version of the song is in C, Crossroads was indeed done in A by Clapton. Crossroads preceded Jet Airliner. Paul Pena wrote and recorded Jet Airliner on his 1973 album, New Train. It's slower, with more and some different lyrics, and the riff is played differently. The key of that was B. Interestingly, James James also has a video of Paul's version and you can easily find it. The original is also here; search Paul Pena Jet Airliner and you can hear it. It was played for Steve Miller by his former keyboard player, Ben Sidran, who produced Paul's album (it was his second). That was not until 1977 and that's when Miller recorded the song. Crossroads was in 1968.
I saw SM play this song without the cappo. The song was written and originally recorded by Paul Pena. IMHO, a much better version. The record company killed his album and promoted Steve Miller’s instead.
I think it would be EXTREMELY instructive to have a video on the RIGHT hand and voicings. It's sometimes hard to see the strings you DON'T play. I also love when you play lead in general. The same ear you bring converts to positions playing lead. Let the BIG DOG out!
+Bob Lane But it's not supposed to be about what you see. It's supposed to be about what you hear. I'm trying to teach people to learn by ear for themselves, not to simply imitate what I'm doing. My videos are meant as a starting point so you can experiment and invent your own system for learning by yourself. I'm not teaching how to play, I'm teaching how to learn.
+James James Most everything I've learned over three decades (what little it is) was by ear, OR, by watching someone. I can't read music. Even Tab charts baffle me. But let me watch someone and I can pick it up fast.
+Robert Patterson That's awesome. But I have a different goal in mind. I'm not really interested in creating a legion of guitarists who learn how to imitate the way I play things. I'd rather people use my videos to develop their own way of learning and playing.
+James James Oh no, I don't use your style or anyone else for that matter. But when my ear takes me only so far on something, then I like to get visual help. Your type videos are great for achieving that.
+James James It was a simple request. I would approach it as a tutorial about the right hand working with the left hand. It took me so many years to learn the right hand is as important as the left hand. As always, thanks for allowing me to learn by watching AND hearing. I love when you play lead.
+TypicalGirls During the first Gulf War, oldies stations stopped playing Paul Simon's Love Me Like a Rock because it sounded like Love Me Like Iraq. The stupidity is astounding.
+James James Sorry I make detonators for 120 mm tank ammunition working with high explosives daily so I might be a little serious. Didnt mean to make fun of something - I'll unsubscribe. later.
+GODZ STR8SHOOTER02 I don't want to fill the comments with the same link. If you scroll down, you'll find a link to the Wiki article on it in another comment of mine. It's called the Clear Channel Memorandum. Like James James said, it's no joke.
The only tune-based guitar resource on UA-cam worth watching 👍
Hope you come back again, sure miss your work.
Thanks for the hundreds of posts you put up over the years. Hope you are enjoying your life.

Sweet Jet Airliner cover,
great tune and memories..🎸...
Awesome as always, Thank You! Also nice to hear the line that they isually censor on the radio!
Thanks jimmy jim - You are a great teacher - Thanks for helping us get better. I'm doing what you say - rhythm guitar first - thanks again!
Thanx for the lesson. We will be seeing Steve in the R&R Hall of Fame very soon! Well deserved too.
Thank you. You are my first stop when I need to learn a new tune.
Great job! I love the t-shirt of Elvis! I live in the town of his last concert.
Great Job. Didn't know about the Capo. Thanks man! Keep Jamming!
Man.....I sure do enjoy watching you play. Thank you.
Yes Sir, one my old time favorites. Great job
Great job.....I have almost mastered that song. Thank you.
I love that song
great job, love your video
Nice job.✨
Always wanted to know how that was played. Thanks for posting.
Love James James on rhythms there is a lot to learn from him.
So much better than tab.
I can now play this.
Wow! That Strat with a capo makes such a unique tone that is so Steve Miller. Do you remember which pickup selection you played? Thanks!
Sounds Great
Good job
Oh Yeahhhhh! Thanks!

thank you!
Where did you get the white les paul. I had one many years ago. Wish I never sold it
That was an Orville by Gibson. I sold it a few years ago, but it was an outstanding guitar.
My second favourite Paul Pena song.
+Glenn Storey I love his original version.
+James James It's much better, in my opinion. A completely different feel.
+James James ~ Thank you for posting Paul's original version

thanks
bella questa canzone grazie james james
How do you avoid the low E string?
Don’t hit it. It takes a little practice to get to that point.
how did you learn songs by ear?
Sweet
Perfect example of a 3 chord hit song.
Is this song in A Mixolydian?

Steve plays it in A now, because his voice has dropped.
What are you having for dinner?
+Oliver Oliver Peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich.
What tuning??
Brett Weber Ah, a Les Paul, and maybe some Ernie Balls for desert.
+Oliver Oliver Just had to say that what you are having for dinner cracked me up. Too cute.
TonyHickschick I'm just waiting for JJ's response! :)
wow.....feels very pete townshend-ey to my untrained ears
great stuff
Let's See Action
There was actually a no play list??? Or am I gullible?
+Dr.hookyeah The no-play list was real. But that doesn't mean you're not gullible.
+Dr.hookyeah Nope, totally serious. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_Clear_Channel_memorandum It's just people deciding what's best for us. SNAFU
Wow

Comeback
Remember when this was on the No-Play list after 9/11? The most ridiculous list ever? I can ALMOST laugh at it now.
+TypicalGirls During the first Gulf War, oldies stations stopped playing Paul Simon's Love Me Like a Rock because it sounded like Love Me Like Iraq. The stupidity is astounding.
+James James hahahahahahaha
