I remember hearing Jim Glaser's version of this song back in the 80's when I was a teenager. He did a country version of this song. Both Jim Glaser and Gene Cotton did great recordings of this song. Honest to God, until today, I had no idea that this song was originally recorded in the 70's by a different artist! I guess you learn something new everyday!
Gene Cotton remains a criminally underrated artist. Sure, he had some commercial success in the 70s and 80s and scored a nice string of hits but not a single one cracked the Top 10 which is a shame, because his catalogue is brimful of worthy charttoppers!
I will be 70 in October, and this is one of my All Time Favorites. Even today I can't get enough of it. ... But then, I have been a Christian since I was 9 years old and took that long, long, walk up the aisle of my Baptist Church, to confess that I was a sinner, and accept Jesus Christ as my Savior... When I first heard this song, in 1977, I was 26; the first word that hit my mind was GOD. This could easily be a song of how you feel when God bursts into your heart and life; when one meets Jesus at Ground Zero: You are at Rock Bottom in Life, with no where to go, at the Foot of the Cross. God Bless All Who Read This. Don't give up, my Friend...
Thanks for a heartfelt testimony! I'm a Christian as well. To say that my life has been an easy road would be a lie of enormous proportions but there's power, grace and love to be found in Jesus Christ! I'm a massive fan of melodic pop music, Soft Rock, Country and Gospel music and this song by Gene Cotton is one of my all time favourite songs! It's such a beautifully crafted song, a love song for you but as you so eloquently pointed out, the lyrics has Gospel overtones and really prove how strong love can be! Gene Cotton remains an underappreciated artist and although he hsd his fair share of commercial success, especially in the 1970s, his name is more than often forgotten when people are discussing the greatest Folk/Country, Soft Rock artists of the 60s and 70s. I wish everyone who reads this message to keep on keeping on. Life wasn't supposed to be easy. It's an ongoing battle and a constant struggle for survival but Jesus Christ remains a constant, a never changing source for whats good and pure. Reach out to him today!
Like you, Becca (my nickname, too!) I was saved as a child, at five years of age. As a teen, I drifted a bit, but the first time I heard this song, I had just come back into fellowship with Him, on Christmas Day of 1979. When I heard this song for the first time, I honestly thought that coming to Jesus was what this song was about, that wonderful, amazing, "gotta tell somebody" feeling of just coming to know Him. Even now, it feels that way when I hear that song. Thanks for reaching out, dear sister! See you on the Other Side!
Yo adoraba esta Canción del Album Rain On , aunque el disco "Save the Dancer" 1978 pegó mas por acá en Ecuador, Gene Cotton siempre ha sido un grande para mi similar musica Stephen Bishop .
Hey ….ran a mobile music show in London- I bought good music records to play and every time this on the deck someone would say who’s that and please play it again. That was early 70’s ,finding it again is a brilliant time warp. Thank you
You Got Me Runnin by Gene Cotton and Let Your Love Flow by The Bellamy Brothers fill my head and heart with the courage and the motivation to face a world that's growing more insane day by day. Life affirming and simply marvellous!
My Dearest Miss Shirley Micek - back in late 1976, which was when I first heard this wonderful song on AM radio, I could only think of you. In July of 1976, you had won your first beauty pageant...the first of many to come...and even though we were not a couple, I dreamed that we were or someday would be, and just being able to be near you had me walking on clouds at an altitude of 100,000 feet - you were the most breathtakingly beautiful young woman that I had ever seen and I was completely overwhelmed. Could not stop listening to this song then, can't stop now. It's been over four decades, but I dedicate this to you, babe...because I'm still in love with you. There, I finally said it, after all these years...I should have said it back then, but I was only just 16, to your 17, and too shy.
I actually remember hearing this on AM 1490, WMPX. That beautiful mellow AM sound on that jumpy graveyard radio frequency with this song was just so perfect.
Owner of one of THE most pleasant Pop voices of the 70s, Gene Cotton is kind of a blend of Don McLean and the late great Jim Croce. Gene enjoyed sporadic commercial success in the 70s and 80s but never made it BIG. He certainly had the talent and the potential!
Hey, Ron! I had this tune stuck in my head since I was six years old, but could never find the song. Finally, I somehow tracked it down on UA-cam, but not a crisp, full version. So I ordered imports of Gene’s albums and created this graphic to post his songs here. They’re all copyright claimed, of course, which means hopefully Gene might see some money from every listen.
One of my all-time favorites, even though I thought it was “You got me runnin’ down a road I’d like to see.”😳 😐That was waaay before you could Google lyrics!🤔
Haha funny , sometimes when I learned the real lyrics I kept singing my own! A favorite being “whatcha doin on your back” from The Bee Gees “You Should Be Dancing”….. my lyrics were “but you do and you better get back” ! Darn GOOGLE!
Why on earth aren't Gene Cotton's albums available on CD? Sure, they're some limited edition Japanese CDs available but Gene released a string of superb albums in the 60s, 70s and early 80s and I wish a record company would release them all on CD. Maybe a task for BGO?

I listened to 10 of his songs yesterday and I loved every one of them. I wished I knew about Gene Cotton 30 years ago!
This was stuck in my head for decades. I only re-discovered it recently.
@@DesGrant me too

Still got the 45 ! Great song.
Had his album in 76-77. I'm 68 and this music sounds fresh today! Played all the time.
His best song ever - never got it on CD - it's one of my favorites in the 70's😍
Forgotten gem from the 70s.
I never forgot...always had it on my radar 😊

I agree!! Gene even did Let Your Love Flow in '75 and the 70's sound incredible still..

Love, love this song!!!
A so totally beautiful historical AM radio smash hit!!!
It was on FM Radio in Nashville. Gene doesn't live to far away from me. About 30 miles.
I actually remember hearing this on AM 1490, WMPX. That beautiful mellow AM sound on that jumpy graveyard radio frequency with this song was just so perfect.
Gene Cotton is from Columbus, Ohio. They used to play this song on 610 WTVN AM in Columbus way back before it became news talk.
One of Parker McGees finest songs, beautifully sung by Gene Cotton.
One of my very, VERY favorite songs. What ever happened to Gene Cotton? He was fabulous!
@@Holly-z2i Gene is alive and well. A family man. I LOVE his work!
Met, Gene back in the day in Tennessee. Totally genuine and sincere guy! Thanks for sharing this great tune.
One of my favorite Gene gems....such a smoothness to his vocals. Would really have loved hearing the Bee Gees cover this!!
Perfect song. Period.
One of the best melodies ever!

Gene Cotton ,Fue uno de mis mejores discos en Lp que tuve 3 veces, quisiera conseguirlo otra vez
Talk about your lost classics
Reminds me of England Dan and John Ford Coley, great tune!

Amo esa canción!! Me trae lindos recuerdos.
In high school 9th grade. Great song.
used to hear this one driving on I-70 in western Kansas.
Gold from 1977 :)
