My Grandpa worked at the Dam when I was a kid. If you ever get the chance, you should go back and take the “hard hat” tour. It’s an amazing piece of history. The lake is so low now!! Hard to imagine that in the 80’s we actually got to see the water going over the spill ways …. So cool!!

I drove across the dam the weekend after 9/11 happened. After all the tragedy I had to escape to nature, to the Grand Canyon. So all the comments about how beautiful and peaceful, are true. Of course, the bypass bridge was not there, because the dam roadway on top of the dam was the only road across the river. We didn’t know if we would be allowed to cross, but we did after they used under vehicle mirrors to inspect all vehicles. By the time we got to Phoenix, they already had t-shirts in the stores that said, “Get the bastards”.

Okay, I am so jealous of you guys right now. I've only been to Hoover Dam once in 1982 when I was only 2 years old. We stopped on our way to California where my dad had been transferred to while serving in the Marines. I don't remember anything about the dam because of being so young.
My maternal granddad helped build Hoover Dam, then had to scale the wall after completion to check for any cracks or leaks. So, this place is literally a part of my family's history. I'm in my forties now & want to go back there so badly. My fiance has told me he will take me there someday.
I enjoyed your video and am so happy I found this in your list. Seeing it from the outside like this is awesome! Thank you for showing this. I can't wait to get to go back someday in person, and especially with the love of my life.

My Great Uncle died making the damn. His wife, my great aunt Clara, was not told she was allowed to receive remuneration for his death. For years she struggled to survive and then someone told her she was owed money, applied and received it for the rest of the her life.

there are some hiking trails that lead into the back side. you walk through huge tunnels that were carved for trains to pull in materials. the tracks are gone. kind of fun walk. i'd do it in the winter. also, AZ doesn't do daylight savings, so half the year, the times match.

Another cool video. BTW, I have been there many times. I used to have to go to Vegas every year for a convention. I love visiting the Hoover Dam~! Those towers on the lake side show you the old standard water level. So much water has been let through in the last number of years, the level is so low they have almost none to let out other than the incoming flow. Oh, and officially 96 people died during the building of the dam although many say it was more like 200+ due to the horrid record keeping and how the offic\ials though reporting the actual numbers would hurt the project or their reputations of non compliance with safety.

      Yup.
      Sad.
Weird thing is that in 91 it was so full they had to open the spillways for the 1st time in decades
It was a pretty Big deal in Vegas , on the news , so we went to check it out , pretty cool experience that hasn’t happened again since.
That was 91 and then all of a sudden by 93 they were saying about the water shortage and the ring was there. 🤔 Weird
      93 - 95 @ the latest
I remember in 89, 90 , the water was almost all the way up on the lakes side of The Damn
Now it’s all the way down on both sides. Ever since 93 ish
