A Massive Hole Full of Classic Cars and Boats (LIKELY STOLEN) - Three Kids Mine

- Located about a mile from the Lake Mead National Park area, the Three Kids Mine remains in a state of decay and filled with endless points of interest.
The Three Kids Mine was an open-pit manganese mine discovered in Clark County, Nevada in 1917. During its early years of operation, which coincided with World War I, manganese from the mine was used in military weapons and equipment. With the end of the war, and the subsequent drop in demand for manganese, mining activities slowed and the Three Kids Mine remained nearly dormant for the next several years.
In 1942, a mill was constructed for on-site processing of manganese ore to help meet the demand for manganese, which had been reignited as a result of World War II. Around this same time, the unrelated Basic Magnesium Incorporated complex, also located in Clark County, Nevada, produced magnesium for the war effort. However, the end of the war once again represented a decline in activity at the Three Kids Mine, and the mill was closed in 1944.
Site activities remained limited up until 1951, when the mill was remodeled and subsequently reopened. The mine and mill continued producing manganese until all open pits were exhausted, and in 1961, all site operations were permanently discontinued. Reserves of lead and manganese that had been stockpiled on-site were sold in the years that followed, and in the early 1980s, a few parcels from the property were sold and redeveloped. Key features of the former Three Kids Mine include open pits, waste rock, ore yard, mill site, and tailings ponds.

Thanks for sharing this Trooper, since I was born and raised in Henderson I used to explore this place before you were born (Im getting old), in 1981 or 82 when I was a rambunctious youth, I hiked down into that open pit and I also rappelled down into one of those octagon pits and found that there were tunnels that lead into the center underneath of those separation ponds. Of course the Three kids mine and milling facility was shut down and abandoned long before I was born, like right after WW2. Thanks again for this.
Why does the Wheel of Misfortune have the Spanish word for transvestite written in it?
@@thomasraywood679 Perhaps... to dress it up?
@@WireWeHere HAha, good one. I do think I figured it out though. It's called the wheel of misfortune or, that is, bad luck, and one circle contains a skull ...death being an obvious misfortune. But since the Spanish word travistita is clearly related to the word travesty, I think the translation is wrong. Not transvestite so much as hermaphrodite. We probably get the word transvestite from people trying to be LIKE a travistita.
@@thomasraywood679 Thanks for sharing your research. I'll share the view with my 90 year old Portuguese father in law since he's sworn Spanish and Portuguese are both Vulgar Latin.
@@WireWeHere Seems logical that the Portuguese pre-dated the Spanish, but seeing as the latter became by far the dominant culture, in trade with them the coastal clade likely adopted a number of loan words as well as some of its syntax. This would make it Spanishish, lol. But unless your wife's dad speaks Spanish as a second language, sounds like his input carries like maybe a quart in a gallon bucket. :)
Your program is very interesting, thank you!
I am impressed by the zoom capabilities of your camera.
Last time I was at that spot in 2014 the pit still had the cars pushed over from the 1987 movie Cherry 2000 in it. And being a fan of the movie, I took pictures of the locations where they film there.
Awesome to see those pics now
Even the Mustang, too??
Someone else posted a link where they show the van in this video being pushed off the cliff in 1987! It was part of that film you mentioned.
6:41 The step van in this video is the white step van that was sent into the pit in that movie It's sill there the movie was filmed in the fall of 1986

A big pit like that is an open invitation for people to push stuff over the edge just to watch it go down.
For the boys.
I’d watch….
Heck ya man. Buy a shit box for scrap price. Drive it a bit then put a block on gas peddal about 200 feet from the edge just to watch it fly.
Like over grown children
@@shawnkelly695 they do that in Alaska every year some dude with a camp ground has a "launch day" off a 300' cliff.
If you contact Dave Sparks and tell him about the trashed out vehicles, he might remove them.
Finally! New video. Been hanging bad for it haha 😅
Man they take forever to edit! 😄... Glad you enjoy them.
In some areas, it's difficult to get rid of fiberglass boats unless you take the time to cut them up. Likely that the pit is a quick and easy way to dispose of an unwanted boat.
Fiberglass burns 😁
There is an RV/boat storage lot right next door. These were likely moved to 'long term storage' from the lot.
dont be scared of alot of hard work. mother nature will show her appreciation
It's not hard atall there's interstates & boat ramps litraly everywheres round hear by god
Yeah, nearby my town in Nevada there’s an old pit mine that people have dumped everything from pianos to cars in. I went down into it with a fella a while ago but there was no road or nothing so we just tied some ropes together and climbed down the steep side. The new owners that are re-excivating have put up cameras so as to stop people from dumping more stuff in. I could tell why they were doing it though as when I went down I saw a little low grade gold ore made visible by collapse near the bottom.
I live about 5 minutes from there. I might have to go take a hike down in the pit now seeing how many cool pieces are down there. Thanks for sharing 👍
Where is this place
carry out a backpack full . every lil bit helps
It's got a "The Hills have eyes" feel to it.
This Was Crazy, Thanks
Cool find on the go pro. I love these new drones. You get to see things you would never have seen before. Keep wandering the desert. Great video.
When I was younger with a few friends we pushed an old car over the edge of the mine. I was on google earth a few months ago looking over that area. The round painted things showed up. I was wondering what that was all about. I wanted to check out and see for myself. You saved me the trouble and you got drone footage. Thanks
thank you again for taking us along . i love to see that neighborhood 👍🏼I’m tired of seeing trees and stuff ha ha
Thanks so much. Drones have opened up a whole new world! I lived in Boulder City back in 2015 and had no idea this was in existance.
Looks like they've turned it into an ATV wonderland.
do a little magic shake a little sand turn this atv wonderland into an amusement park.
No matter how inaccessible or inhospitable a place is, taggers will manage to leave their marks.
Was a pretty clean piece
Dumicated
I’d love to have access to a taggers house and leave “my” mark inside where the live.
Atleast they aren't damaging anything with value.

You sir, do some dang good work!
The Steury Boat Company was founded in 1956 in Goshen, IN by two brothers, Edwin "Bud" and Virgil Steury. The founding date was comfirmed in an interview with Edwin "Bud" Steury several years later. The company was originally founded as a winter sideline operation for their farm fertilizer business. Boats were built out of their garage where they stored their fertilizer trucks.
Nice home work & research.
Copied straight from wiki
The boat in the pit had a New York registration. (stickers on prow).

I had no idea that place even existed. Interesting.
Gas boats can have water separators as well just like diesel boats have.
I never get tired of walking around old junk yards or woods finds. Brings me back to my childhood running around with my dad in the junkyards. we used to have 4 large ones that were full of about anything with a motor good times
My problem is I couldn't leave the cars behind, regardless of their condition. If I had a trailer and a big property, everything would be taken home.
There is a lime stone quarry near me where I have gone dirtbike riding with my friends and my family for over 30 years.. in one area of this play riding place is a deep hole about 200 yards round Add about 200 feet deep. There are about 12 or 13 maybe 14 hill climbs going down/up out of this hole known as the super bowl by all who ride their motorcycles, trials bikes, bicycles, quads, dune buggies, jeeps, side-by-side’s, four-wheel-drive vehicles in this area. In the early 90s, there were several cars at the bottom., And every so often, another one shows up, only to be buried by the dust/dirt from erosion of the walls of the Souper bowl itself. The rain collection at the bottom as it carries dirt down from the walls, and it buries them.. this area we ride in it is so hilly, that many of the hills you go down, your back wheel is still coming down one hill as your front wheel starts up another hill.. lots of fun, it’s not that large, it may cover about 2 or 3 square miles.. it’s a play/party area for off road riders in Pennsylvania. Very hilly. Any weekend in the summer, and even during the week, there will be people camping with their motorhomes or tents and pick up trucks, big gatherings, lots of fun..There are videos of this place on UA-cam and even the super bowl at this place Known as Hillsville by riders, and on UA-cam..It almost looks like being in the Arizona desert because of the limestone soil, but it’s in lush Green Pennsylvania
Thanks for the look round👍

My god it's full of cars, good video thank you.
This looks like the kind of place you would meet with a briefcase full of money to make a sketchy purchase. Cool find.
Yeah please give me some money I could use it just a small bag of twenties I'm not greedy
Breaking Bad?
Yes I'm pretty sure the Javier Bardem getting ready to sneak up on you with that cattle kill device from the movie 'No Country for Old Men'
Fun stuff!
Thanks!
👍👍👍👊😎
The old cars and boats reminds me it might have been under water at some time; just thinking
In the '80s and early 90s that area was a party area for young kids they would go there have bonfires and drink and cars would go flying into the mine it was fun to launch cars off the edge of the pit you were drunk back in the day.
The Lake Las Vegas community is right across Lake Mead Blvd. The River Mountain Bike trail you had to cross to get there. Nevada is open carry.
Good times right there!
That yellow aluminum boat still looks like it's good shape!
U wanna buy it?
Not so likely "Stolen". As young drivers, my friends and I drove cars that were nearly wore out. When beyond reasonable efforts to keep them going, it was common to have a late night/very early morning party and drive/push them into a 300' deep partially water filled and abandoned quarry near where we lived. I have a 1956 Ford Crown Victoria in there that I now wish I had saved, 1951 Desoto that belongs there, and a 1946 Chevy Coupe that belongs there too. Junk yard salvage prices of $20 if you could drive it to them made the quarry parties more fun. I don't remember any boats going in there, but getting rid of a junk fiberglass boat these days may make quarry deposits more attractive.
Sounds like you’d have some cool story’s. And yea That 56 would be a nice car to have today wish I could have grown up in that time my buddy and I are restoring a 56 Ford f100 pickup
That drill hole is from a core sample, not an explosives hole.
Ahh that makes sense, thank you!
Great video man. That is crazy stuff. I'm a subscriber now so I'll have to check out your other videos. And by the way your camera is amazing. I can't believe how well the zoom works. Insane.
Keep up the great work
Thanks bro I appreciate that!
recycling garbage can give our millitary lots of tools to work with. instead of just watching lend a helping hand. WE NEED YOU
Never heard of this place before. It's less than 10 miles from my house, i should check it out sometime.
Your drone at the beginning flew right over "The Wheel of Misfortune"...near the skate boarders.
Recently read where the City of Henderson was in talks of developing that area for new homes etc. I would imagine it would cost millions just to clean up and mitigate any leftover crap from the days of mining.
Btw..where's your 4 legged partner??
I am posting a video of the area tomorrow. I rode my motorcycle around the complex
That’s a clean PEZER piece on the side of that boat, good stuff 🤙
Amazing 👍 strange place .. all those boats and cars enjoyed watching 👍
This is a good place to film an end of the world scene
Very interesting find. Great video.
Cool video just curious how you found this spot and others from previous videos. I’ve been going to lake mead most of my life and have never seen some of these places.

Oh, the bodies are still in the cars.
Awesome footage! I just subscribed!
The Manson Family liked to live in a very remote location. Maybe listen to your gut regarding safety. Leave yourself a way to make a quick escape. I never go far from my vehicle in sketchy areas.
Pretty sad there's so many nutters in the USA that you have to think of your personal safety constantly?

Looks like a dangerous place to be around. Thank you for sharing
How did the cars & boats get in there? Very interesting place. Thank you!
Great footage. I'm down to Urbex every inch of this place, just wish I was in Nevada instead of Minnesota.
So why not use the drone down in the pit? At 5:52 -Yes a K5 Blazer; @6:49 looks like n old bread or milk truck(basically a stepvan). I was wondering if that was an old Ford EXP, what you were thinking Fiero - Fiero would've had a closed off area up front(they were mid engine).
good job 👏
The holes are from core drilling to sample the material!
finally somebody flew their drone in there! been wanting to go out there and climb down there to check the cars out
Can you imagine being down in the bottom when someone drops a car into the pit. Very dangerous
@@Lempira27Lmao them cars been in there 50 year or better
More interesting is the shist, green and white rocks, where gold deposits are found inside the open pit mine.
What were they digging the holes for? Copper, some sort of rock or something, just curious
That hole sure looks like an old copper or gold mining operation.
This was interesting 🤔
Haven't seen a Trooper in yrs.
Looks nice 🙂
This is where they filmed Cherry 2000 looks like.
Wow, a drone would be priceless, for scouting past a washout, slide, or trees down.
Never thought I’d want one.
Just a fact if memory serves me right the depth of that big strippins pit is a little over 400ft deep.
Nice to see someone not flying a prebuilt.
Well they can finish filling in with fiberglass windmill blades
You start hearing any banjos playing “ RUN”😳😂
Were they stolen for insurance money payouts? Now recovered, will owners of these items have to return themoney? And has the statute of limitations run out on any crimes involved? And lastly. How can we as private citizens, come and recover some of those classic vehicles?
Thank you for sharing
God blesd
And do you know if law enforcement has been out to get the bin numbers to clear their books?
Some possibly but I'd say most are not old cars back in the day didn't have much value as scrap(20$per ton) so people would give them away for free or just leave them where ever & junk fiberglass boats are almost impossible to dispose of still to this day (nobody wants to take them) so people dump them but I seen in these comments some of that stuff was from old movies I guess that were filmed in that area so I guess they just dumped them there it seems
Great video man I've been here many times there's an old Volkswagen bus down we found an old metal sign in it I still have it but either way that car you asked if it was a fiero was a Toyota MR2
The storage place probably dumps vehicles in the pit for non payment
Cherry 2000 is one of my favorite movies. I always wondered were it was filmed.
just curious on what drone you use .... very nice footage
Cool video 📸😎
This place is unbelievable!
Did I hear right is this lake mead?do you know anything about the old digging of that great hole?
Isn't 3 kids mine toxic with arsenic and magnesium? And going to the bottom of the mine is prohibited? I thought you could only spend like 5 mins in the mine before it would be harmful to your lungs? Is this true? Just be careful
Boats my not be stolen. In some states they are very difficult to get properly dispose of and/or expensive.
Not round hear it ain hard atall theys boat ramps & interstates everywheres litraly
you can fix some of those boats with flextape....thanks for sharing.
Super cool video!
Maybe someone got tired of paying the boat storage fee and just dumped them.
How is a mining company allowed to leave an open pit like that? I thought there was a reclamation process involved with mining operations.
Economics, it’s cost prohibitive. If anything reworking that site when the need is profitable…
Was dug before the EPA regs.etc.
The one that appears to be a Fiero is actually an AW11 Toyota MR2. The square side duct and radio console give it away to me.
Despite looking a lot like the Fiero, the Fiero's to my knowledge have all fiberglass bodies, so I was gonna guess something like an MR2.
@@yukitakahashi5739 Simple rule: If a mangled mid-engined car has dented doors, probably an MR2. If the doors aren't bent, or you can see the inside door skeleton, probably a Fiero.
What's the history of this area?
I remember an old game they played on top gear catapulting car to a target. This would be a great spot to replay that, center ring is 10 points.
Dave Bowman: "My God, it's full of cars!"
I fly FPV out there all the time. Fun place! Yeah, I know one of the vans in the pit that's still there was used in the movie Cherry or whatever it was called.
Nice Trooper, aka Isuzu Bighorn
Wow crazy stuff. Great spot to film a freaky movie
Is there usable parts there still??
Marker 707 on timer when u zoomed in on steary boat there r at least 2 barrels??? Wonder if more remains????
Those boats were dumped, not stolen, just try and get rid of a trash boat in Vegas. It's next to impossible.
Yeah I can understand they dump boats and jet skis a lot of times because recyclers won't take them because of fiberglass I've seen them burn them out in the desert it's only way you can get rid of them and people come back later and pick up the debris after it cools for quite a while sometimes I don't even come back the responsible ones do that like the place
Definitely dumped, agreed! 😊
🤠 That's actually a passtime in Nevada. It's a weekend hobby! Here's a typical conversation between 2 Las Vegas natives:
👉"Hey Bill, what do you want to do today"?
👉 "It doesn't matter to me dude. We can either go fishing, or we can push a boat off a cliff".
👉 "Well, we just went fishing last weekend, but it's been at least 2 weeks since we've pushed a boat off a cliff, so let's do that"!
@@HighlanderNorth1 - Hahaha!!!
People want the trailers, but not the boat… roll in loaded, roll out empty. It’s like a boat landfill, just hasn’t been filled and covered back up.
What are the giant circles? This is a cool site… a little scary with the steep drop off’s, but very cool!
They were used in mining processing. There are a few videos about them on YT.
