As far as starting the car with a new turbo, I usually unplug my coils and crank it for a while (you could even pull up oil pressure on a scan tool) before starting. I even do this after an oil change because I've noticed the engine makes some noise for half a second if I don't, even if I soak the filter in oil first. Might be paranoid, but I also put a ton of miles on my vehicles.
with shop rates around my area, if i were to buy the parts and ask a shop to install them (as i dont have the space or tools to do) i would still probably end up paying 30-40% more on labour than the actual parts. these vws are so tempting to mod to this level, but unless you have the tools and garage/skills to do these mods, i still think the best bang for your buck is mild B/O parts. stage 1, tcu, coils, exhaust, air intake, lightweight wheels, good tires. rip out any excess weight you can. then you have a golf r/s3 killer for like 5k$ in parts/labour compared to like the 10k+ it would cost to go this far. with 400 hp and like 3100 lbs, you're drifting into unusable power/weight (for daily/street driving that is). 300 hp/tq in these golfs is more than enough to have a lot of fun without worrying about having to go to jail LOL. great vid as always charles
