    5:00 pointing out one of those differences in between a pro and home gamer, Charles lubed up the clips with foaming glass cleaner. Very mild, and leaves very little or no residue, but helps plastic and rubber slide into place. Meaning less of a chance to scratch, and less breakage.

    As far as starting the car with a new turbo, I usually unplug my coils and crank it for a while (you could even pull up oil pressure on a scan tool) before starting. I even do this after an oil change because I've noticed the engine makes some noise for half a second if I don't, even if I soak the filter in oil first. Might be paranoid, but I also put a ton of miles on my vehicles.

    with shop rates around my area, if i were to buy the parts and ask a shop to install them (as i dont have the space or tools to do) i would still probably end up paying 30-40% more on labour than the actual parts. these vws are so tempting to mod to this level, but unless you have the tools and garage/skills to do these mods, i still think the best bang for your buck is mild B/O parts. stage 1, tcu, coils, exhaust, air intake, lightweight wheels, good tires. rip out any excess weight you can. then you have a golf r/s3 killer for like 5k$ in parts/labour compared to like the 10k+ it would cost to go this far. with 400 hp and like 3100 lbs, you're drifting into unusable power/weight (for daily/street driving that is). 300 hp/tq in these golfs is more than enough to have a lot of fun without worrying about having to go to jail LOL. great vid as always charles

      @@HumbleMechanic It helps so much moving your coils to a dedicated ground, and then you don't have to deal with the tri-lobe bolts that tend to strip easily; You only have to tighten the bolt enough to keep the coil in place. The flex fuel sensor should allow the ECU to adjust fuel and timing based on ethanol content. Going behind E40 will only lose power if the calibrated timing advance is too low for any ethanol contents higher than E40 which suggests the flex fuel is literally only for the fueling component only. Gaining power by dropping the E content very much says a non adapting timing strategy.

      just remove the haldex fuse or put it in dyno mode that way the rear doesn’t kick in

    Excellent Part 2 video. I'm currently '18 R on a Unitronic Stage 2 with all the recommended add ons (intake, downpipe, intercooler, charge pipes, etc. on 93 oct) im curious what #'s I would put down on a dyno to the wheels. Do you think this car pulls that much harder than a stage 2 Uni Golf R? Interested...

      they didnt switch back to 93, he added 93 to bring the ethanol content of the tank down a few percent

      I think thats what they meant, switching the fuel. I could be wrong tho. I would say E30 would be my target on that car. The power drop off is harsh.

    Use a heat gun to soften up those intercooler clips. Then they pop out much more easily

    The manual says to cut those radiator clips and reinstall with a screw.

    Question. Being that the intercooler is behind the radiator and condenser, how much is it really cooling the charge air? Seems like the already heated air will have minimal effect.

    • @HumbleMechanic
      @HumbleMechanic  Місяць тому +2

      Likely not as efficient as it would be in the front. I did some testing on it when I installed mine I think the effect was significant with the upgrade. Especially in HPD.

    Great video- do you think the dyno itself maybe why the HP number wasn't higher? Also, I wouldn't want to touch the job you did with a 110 foot pole. I've done a bunch of bolt on mods to my MK7 GTI, and haven't swapped to an IS38 yet because I don't want to do it myself (and don't have the $1k+ to pay someone just for the install). This job might be a 4/5 for a mechanic, but I'm thinking it's a 6 out of 5 for a DIY-er.

    Hey Charles, been watching you for a while and want to thank you for all the content...Could you tell me what the best way to tell if your engine mounts are bad? I am getting a knocking/rattling noise when accelerating at low rpm (less than 1400rpm) but once above that it goes away
    Edit: I like the Charles rating!
