@@duckiesae Both good singers but Chris wasn't on hippy drugs, womaniser or a poser. And King? Why the American music industry only name American singers Kings and Queens?
Bizarrely I judge artists by the amount you hear about them....the less, the better. Chris is a guy you NEVER hear about. He comes across as a genuine, humble, talented guy and that's all we'd all like to be. Good man Chris.
Fool if you think its over is another underrated some by Chris - I always liked his raspy voice and humbleness as a human. What a health story he has also - God bless him

Its all the memories this song brings back. Our fsmily would drive 1100 miles at Christmas to be with family. This song touches my heart so with the lyrics. Its my favorite Christmas song
I suppose, like most people, by the time Christmas Day arrives, I'm sick to the back teeth of Christmas songs. But I never tire of this. Having lived in that part of the world for a few years, I can relate to that humble, easy going, live and let live ethos up there. Lovely bloke and a great talent.
Met Chris in a pub in Boro many years ago..a down to Earth guy..no big time rock star from this fella.. Mentioned that I had all his albums..benny santini..wired to the moon..bloody hell he said you are a fan..bought him a beer had a damn good chat..they say you should never meet your heroes..glad I did..Chris just keep on doing what you do...please
I bought two copies of Fool If You Think It's Over, because I wore the first one out! Then I bought a copy of Diamonds in 1979. Never heard anything more from Chris Rea until Christmas of 2012 when I heard Driving Home For Christmas for the very first time. Divorce left me separated from my daughters by half a continent. I saw them in the summer, and at Thanksgiving, but 2012 was the first Christmas I would be with them in twelve years. My rented Ford Focus clawed its way through the snow-covered Colorado mountains without missing a beat, and it was on that journey I heard this song for the first time. I actually wasn't driving home, I was driving to visit, but the love and the anticipation were exactly the same. This song truly summed up what that Christmas visit meant to me, and I think this must be my favorite Christmas song now. Thank you, Chris Rea.
Just heard this song as a 50-year-old man here in a restaurant by Times Square New York City for the 1st time. Wish I had the last 34 years to enjoy, but my children will hear it
This song is so evocative for me. I used to be sales rep covering a large territory and I had a wife and two young children who depended on me. It brings back memories of the last working day of the year sitting in a cold car, starting the engine, putting on the heater and radio facing the prospect of a long drive home in the dark in bad weather. If the rain turned to snow a two hour journey could take all night.
My father died a few days before christmas many years ago.....i returned to england to be there for my mum.....but I had to return to france where i live.....this song came on the radio in the car.....got home about a quarter to midnight on xmas eve , my face drenched with tears.....haven't been able to listen to this wonderful song for years......Chris has gone through more shit than many can even consider.....his resilience is amazing......
As I’m living in Sussex and from the Northeast, driving up for Christmas was a wonderful feeling, being greeted by a coal fire and seeing my relatives again. Sadly now they’re not with us anymore, so this song makes me so sad.
Exactly the same here. I remember driving up there listening to this on the radio feeling so happy and Christmasy but just like you, sadly they are all gone now.
I'm a truck driver! This song perfectly describes my last day at work before Christmas. Every year I wish a Merry Christmas with this song on my social media page! Evergreen! Thanks for it!
Chris is a gent and very down to earth - I’m so glad I knew him in his younger days! His illness and debilitating challenges are unknown to many but he’s a real trooper and love sFerraris!
And his wee Caterham 7! :-) He certainly has had a torrid time with his pancreatic cancer, but he continues to astound doctors, and confound the disease, by still soldiering on. I was lucky enough to attend a few of his concerts over here in Belfast. Happy memories...
September 15, 2022. So looking forward to start playing Chris' DRIVING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS for the Christmas Season 2022 and thereafter. We start celebrating the Christmas season right after Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S.A. Can hardly wait!!
I can't listen and see this without crying, I am an old boy, old school, this is brilliant. I have had the privilege to be at Chris's concerts at least three times with my beautiful wife by my side and can only say what a great bloke Chris is, I wish him and his family every happiness, he has brought so much happiness to us just listening to him and his music.
I love Chris Rea. I love Driving Home For Christmas and I love watching him tell the story of the song. I love all his music. Just can't say enough good things about this brilliant and talented man.

Listening to this song on my way back home from working a night shift. It’s now Christmas Eve, 2021. Feeling lonely but this song is keeping me company on this hour and a half drive. Soon I’ll be home and spend time with my beautiful woman and my loved ones. Merry Christmas to you all!
Chris Rea has made such great music over the years, His is so humble, had overcome such adversities yet remains steadfast in what he does best, Write & Sing with is incredible voice.
I cannot even begin to say what the song has meant to me, when it comes on the radio or I play it...my mind goes to my parents who I have lost...thank you....

This song not only beautiful instills a lot of emotions when I hear it - normally happy thoughts of being a kid, also driving home from college 5 hours looking forward to "the smiling faces" of family, college and high school friends. But more recently thought about my brother and parents (all gone) and how mom and dad made everything special for Xmas Eve and Day. Little sad thinking about this but overall I love this song and thats the power of music, triggering memories and feelings right? Merry Christmas everyone....
