- I just found myself watching all of these old video's of Gyasi. I don't know, it gives me some kind of peace. Gyasi was a wonderful mother and a beautiful lady with a strong character. Everybody loved her, even though she could be stubborn or a bit crazy. We'll miss her so much.
there is a video included of baby tayari (made by Jenny) and a video of Gyasi pushing one of the teenagers into the water (made by apenheul)
Apenheul updated us today about Kiango and the rest of the group. They're all doing fine. Kiango is been taken care of by his aunts and especially Nemsi makes sure he is okay. When the small monkeys Moto and Mojo play too rough, normally Gyasi stepped in. Now people have seen Nemsi and Mandji stepping in for Kiango so that's a good thing. It is still heartbreaking but life goes on. I hope you'll enjoy the special video. Because these memories are how I want to remember Gyasi.
Gyasi died because of a bacterial infection, the caretakers and doctors did everything they could to save her. But sadly she has passed away this week.

Sad to see Gyasi gone, great to see little Tayari in this video. Tayari is a great intelligent Mom herself now caring her little son Jabali, Gyasi did a great job. RIP Gyasi !

Bao Bao had lost his mother and family when he was at two years old. How come the same situation has happened on Kiango himself as same as his father Bao Bao . Please God bless Kiango. The comments you are replying to about her living on through tayari kiango Here's nothing to do with irrkey. When somebody makes a comment about a gorilla who passed away, living on through her 2 children.
Then they would make no sense and only take a very unintelligent. Local dragging mouth, breathing type of dum dumb. Get excited and say another gorilla's name For no reason
It is very sad to hear that such an extraordinary creature died so quickly and unexpectedly. I hope that Kiango grows up happy and healthy surrounded by his whole family, you know the death of a gorilla is an irreparable loss for a gorilla family. rest in peace wonderful Gyasi. 3:34 Seeing Gyasi took her little daughter Tayari sitting at the end of branch, going up and down, no wonder Tayari is so adventurous, always going up high to the tree top. I once saw Tayari tried to use branch to lift herself up to the tree, very clever but failed, LOL~!
Thank you for showing us such a beautiful tribute to Gyasi. Tayari looks amazingly like her mother, and I can see the same spunk in Kiango that Tayari and Jabali have.

She was such a wonderful gorilla with so much personality and confidence 💗. I know her sister Nemsi will miss her dearly 💔. The family is very close so Kiango is in good hands. Remember Manji stepped in and raised Kiwisa son after hers passed away. Gorillas are loving and caring animals. 💕

I'm so grateful that he has such a close bond with the rest of his family. I know his auntie will take such good care of him. It must have been so hard on you and I just want to say I'm so sorry. You gave her such a wonderful life. I know that I'm not alone when I ask you to please keep doing the videos. I love this beautiful family of Gorillas like non other I've seen and would absolutely be so grateful to keep seeing all of them, especially Kiango. He's such a special little boy to sooo many of us. Thank you Lieke. Gyasi’s passing was so sudden and such a shock. Since I heard the news, I’ve been so worried about how the group are coping - especially poor wee Kiango. I’m so glad to hear that they have had time to say goodbye and understand that Gyasi is gone, and also that Kiango is being comforted by his aunties. This is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful gorilla who died far too you… 💔
What happened to her?
Liekes, I am so sorry for the loss of this precious Mama. I know it hurts for all who love her. Now I know where Tayari gets her beautiful features from. So sad for Kiango, but I know all his gorilla family have stepped up to fill the gap and will continue to do so. She has such a beautiful line of heirs to follow in her footsteps with Tayari, Kiango and Jabali. My thoughts and prayers are with all. R.I.P. sweet Mama Gyasi.

It's good to know that the other troop members are taking care of Kiango. Hopefully one of the aunties is allowing Kiango to sleep with her in her nest at night so he can feel safe.

it is indeed so sad. But luckily his aunts take care of him. Especially Nemsi stepped in for him. It is good to read and see he's been taken care of by his aunts and daddy

Thank you for this. Here in Cincinnati Ohio the zoo director decided to use a GUN to halt the life of Harambe in front of his family. I live in Cincinnati. I will never forget this day. ☹️
This is so sad. My heart breaks for little Kiango and the rest of the troop. I keep wondering, do the troop get a chance to see and understand that she's dead or does she just go missing forever? I know in the wild, when a member dies they hang around them and groom them for a while.
In the Netherlands they give all animals the time and especially primates. So they all get a chance to say goodbye. And then when time passes they'll leave and go on with their lives and then they take away the body. So they definitely have gotten the chance to say goodbye.

It's too sudden, regretful and sad, the beautiful mother Gyasi has become an angel, Kiango will miss you very much, will the members of the gorilla family know that she passed away, guess Kiango may be artificial feeding first🍼.
(Kiango likes to challenge with Mojo & Moto, and sometimes overplays.... Mom is not here, who will protect him in the future 😢

So beautiful... but very sad. Watching your heartwarming videos Liekes helped me get through the pandemic. We became familiar with many of these lovely gorillas because of you. Though Kiango is being taken care of, one can't help but feel the loss of his lovely mother Gyasi. Praying that Kiango continues to thrive...may beloved Gyasi rest peacefully. What a beautiful gorilla. Well her genes are strong because Tayari and Jabali look just like her an both have her unusual nature especially Tayari who can be stubborn an very eccentric lol but that’s why Gyasi an now Tayari an Jabali are so endearing they are very much individualistic with unique spirits. It’s always interesting to watch but Gyasi pushing the teenager into the pond was priceless. Thanks for hilitingher life she was special

I just read about what happened to Gyasi and feel DEVASTATED. Such a gorgeous mama gorilla, so feisty, young, so loving, such a great mama....This was terrible news, I feel so bad for Kiango, just a little baby and already orphan. Fortunately, Nemsi is stepping up to help him. Gorillas are very solidary, compassionate creatures. Still, I feel so sad for Gyasi. May she Rest in Peace. FOREVER in our hearts!

So sad that she was only 20 yo. That’s young these days for gorillas. The zoo don’t give enough info. Just what they think will do. Gorillas are humans with a lot of body hair😢
I think that they are human too.
The zoo is not the one to blame. They give information as much as they think needed and I get it. Because lots of people care about the gorilla's, which also results in a lot of interference of others. It isn't easy to be a caretaker in these times. Because they have their own grieve and they have to go on with their job. Just think we'll have to wait and answers will come within time.

Very sad news. Kiango is small, he needs his mother a lot, he must miss her a lot. Gorillas are very close to each other, it is a great loss for the herd, but the biggest loss for Kiango. A wonderful caring mother. Rest in peace.

Leike did replied to this question from another comment...yes.
Apparently they let the troop spend time with the body, and she also said that the troop may groom the deceased. They remove the body once everyone leaves, and goes about their lives.

I feel absolute shame for what we humans do to other creatures...especially those who share 98% of our very genetic material. Gyasi was beautiful but she was just a 'toy' for human hands. She may not have lived as long in the wild, or perhaps longer, but we'll never know. She will never know!!!
