In 2015, a kind, elderly gentleman placed a headstone on her grave, paid for out of his own pocket. He did this because his mum spoke about her ( Ruth) constantly. The headstone was later stolen. If you search Ruth Eliis' grave, you will find it. The gentleman is wearing a green T-shirt and blue jeans, and is standing with his hands clasped in front of him. Liam Galvin interviewed him at her gravesite. He pleaded that it not be stolen, but some people are absolute garbage humans. Thank you for another interesting video.
FYI - Crows and ravens DO actually mourn and hold a sort of bird vigil for their flock members who have died. They appear in this case to have done their ritual mourning and are waiting now for someone else to remove the little body. I just love that you have the compassion for a tiny little fellow inhabitant of this earth to remove the body. Thank you and God bless.
Such a tragic story, but I'm so glad no one else would endure the same fate as Ruth. When you read both sides of the story, and what happened to her son, it's all such a shame. Great telling of both stories Paul. Thank you.
Perhaps her Son [Rest In Peace] was totally ashamed of his 'Mother' and her true nature?

I love your content paul. In an age when youtube has so much toxic stuff going on its refreshing and relaxing to watch your videos. Keep up the great work.
A very sad story Ruth was physically abused and she snapped and she killed her lover, she met her end with courage and dignity, she paid the price for her crime, sadly abuse against women still goes on. Thank you superb as always.
how did she "snap" she went to Hampstead and shot him in cold blood not as the result of argument or fight
That’s kind of you Paul to care about a deceased bird..I like crows.
Thanks Paul for covering this in your normal respectful way.
There was an interesting BBC documentary about this back in 2018. It discussed the possible influence of another man called Desmond Cussen who they say supplied her with the gun and allegedly urged her to do something about Blakely. They also talked in depth about the traumatic effect of domestic violence and also a miscarriage as a result of this. Cheers for the upload.
She was hanged by Albert Pierrepoint who said her death was a big factor in turning him against capital punishment. He also said when she went to the gallows she was incredibly brave x
Good on yah mate. I had Pierpoint in my head you saved me the search.
@@shaunbrennan5882 Albert sent them on they way quickly and cleanly with as much dignity they had left.
Pierrpoint always said he thought she should never had been hung
So he was turned against capital punishment after murdering a woman? How very brave of him. 🙄
Why don’t you write your own monologue for these people, instead of reading from the internet?… they deserve better than this.
The off duty policeman was Alan Thompson (PC 389) and he recovered the weapon from Ruth Ellis. I actually worked with him some time after the incident.
He never liked to speak about that day and it was quite some time after that I found out about his involvement in the case.
The gun is now housed in the Crime Museum (Black Museum) in New Scotland Yard.
It was on public display once when the museum on London showed it as part of the museums rarely shown collection as the public are not able to visit the Crime Museum as it is only used normally for reference by serving police officers.
Cheers for the info Rick 🙏
Fascinating.
Yea , so did I but i can't say as i know you .
@@weementaldavy5987 I met him when he was in the Civil Service.
That field and the trees beyond the churchyard really is a beautiful and almost magical sight to behold. England's green and pleasant land.
Now being smothered in houses everywhere you look.
Fantastic postings Paul. Loved watching them.
Well done finding Ruth Ellis's grave.
Beautiful churchyards too.
I visited Ruth's grave back in 1995 and got chatting to a local there. He told me that the town of Amersham decided not to replace the headstone as they didn't want to encourage tourists.
Xx
You don't see many UK based channels covering content you do, so it's nice to see. Nice to learn a little bit of the individuals you visit
Keep up the good work.
So sad Ruth was hanged for this "crime of passion" especially as she had two young children who would have to carry the stigma of it. FUI Paul, crows always circle around the body of one of their dead flock, very intelligent creatures, research states it could be they are trying to find out how it died and if it's death is threat to the rest of the flock. Thanks Paul great video as always
How is it a crime of passion given she shot him in cold blood ? If she had shot in as the result of a fight etc even then crime of passion was not a defence in England .
Being an older viewer, I was a child when this happened, but even now can remember the headlines about Ruth Ellis being hanged, and my parents talking about it, then hushing when I came in…but being inquisitive I resolved to find out more, and was shocked.
It was a toxic relationship as you say, but I’m guessing that had it happened in France then, it would have been ruled “A Crime of Passion”, and there would have been no death sentence for Ruth for her actions, but more understanding. Why do the French think so romantically in these situations, ? ? she didn’t just shoot him once, but stood over and fired several more times. Planning to kill herself with the last bullet.
It’s still very very tragic that someone could love, and yet kill that person, having been pushed over the edge by their actions.
Albert Pierrepoint followed his father and uncle Thomas who were both hangmen, but Albert was part time, and ran a pub called Bizarrely
“Help the poor struggler”. I read that he perfected his “art” to being able to complete a hanging in 8 seconds, so I always hoped he didn’t let Ruth suffer. Thankyou for remembering her, poor soul. And for such an interesting visit, and as I said, a sad ending for both involved. 🙋♀️👏🏻👏🏻😘🙏💐
Thanks Paul for sharing this tragic story. Two sides to every story. She was a beautiful girl and so young. Thanks for being respectful to the poor little bird.
Paul I live in the USA in Las Vegas, Nevada. I started watching your videos less than six months ago not because I knew of anyone being buried in England but because I did not. I started watching you because of the respect you showed or gave to each grave site. I love seeing the architect of the churches and the grounds around. Thinking back I did remember a couple music artists that you shared there buried sites. Thank you for sharing these videos and for the respect you give while telling there stories.
Thank you for watching…. I’m happy you’re starting to find out some info on the peoples graves I visit 🙏
This Young Woman's Story Will Never Be Forgotten😪Thank You Paul...
Hey Paul I live 10 minutes away from the location of Ruth's grave. Thanks for the great stuff you do, love watching your channel 😁
I remember a radio interview with John Osborne the QC and author famous for Rumpole of The Bailey. In 1955 he was a junior Counsel and part of the team who defended her at her trial. He said he was present when she calmly told her QC " you will make sure I'm hanged won't you?" Osborne said it was chilling. The poor woman was already dead inside. I've never seen it but Mike Newall's 1985 film Dance With A Stranger dramatised the events.
John Mortimer.
@@jacquelineharrod6386 Yes. You're right.
Another dignified and respectful video,Paul.
rip Ruth Ellis I've always been against the death penalty. Thank goodness it was abolished in this country. Another great video Paul well done sir.
Thank you again Paul , I love church yards and you show them so well
Cheers Paul for showing us all these places, it's appreciated. Moronic vandalism of a grave marker, any grave, makes no sense. It's enough that the girl paid with her life. We were down in Ilfracombe last year, where a WWI memorial and "thankyou to the fallen" mosaic, near the museum, had been vandalised during Remembrance time. It probably won't be repaired and it's just senseless wilful vandalism.
Thank you for doing this video. She was from Rhyl which is 20 minutes from me and it’s always fascinated me that a welsh woman was the last woman hung in England obviously not the crime that she committed! Thank you again for another great video.
God bless you Ruth xx
Sad but fascinating story. Really enjoying the content paul and very much looking forward to seeing what comes next, keep up the amazing work 👏 xx
My parents and I were watching a tv documentary about Derek Bentley who hanged for the murder of a policeman, my Mum said neither he or Ruth Ellis should have been hanged. Derek because he didn't actually fire the gun and Ruth because of the abuse but both should serve prison sentences. Derek was later pardoned in 1990's.
I've been fascinated by this case for some time and watching both the videos inspired me to write this piece. Hope you find it interesting. There is much that marks out Ruth Ellis’ execution as a source of fascination, 63 years since it took place in Holloway Prison, London. History will tell us that it is because she was the last woman hanged in the UK; perhaps expedited because of the profile of this case, the death penalty was abolished 10 years later. Crime enthusiasts will say it was the unremorseful nature of the murder, and buried evidence about a co-conspirer that could never be confirmed after her execution. Ellis was born in Rhyl, Wales, in 1926. She left school as a young teenager, had a child and worked a variety of jobs, eventually becoming a nightclub hostess. In 1950, she married dentist George Ellis, with whom she had a second child. He was 41 and a violent alcoholic who was convinced she was cheating on him. Despite leaving him on numerous occasions, Ellis always returned and had the couple's daughter Georgina, in 1951. But he refused to accept the baby girl was his and the couple eventually divorced. The media helped Ruth Ellis make her mark: she was an ex-nude model who'd dabbled in acting, and her act of passion was against the lover who scorned her, David Blakely, a wealthy socialite and race-car driver. They met through mutual friends at the Little Club in Mayfair, a notorious anything-goes place where The Krays visited, and where Ellis was a hostess and manager. Together, they shared an alcohol-fuelled passionate and violent relationship until Blakely wanted out, prompting Ellis to seek out his hiding place in Hampstead on Easter Sunday of 1955. Finding him in the Magdala pub, she waited for him to leave, then shot him twice in the back at point blank range. As he lay bleeding on the ground, she continued shooting, then calmly gave up her gun to an off-duty policeman. “Will you call the police?” she asked him.
“I am the police,” he replied.
“Will you please arrest me?”
Refusing any option to reduce her sentence - like pleading insanity or highlighting the role of her new lover Desmond Cussen, whom had given her the gun and driven her to the pub - her hearing lasted two days, and it took the jury 25 minutes to decide she was guilty. She was hanged on 13 July 1955, aged 28. She left behind two children, then aged three and 10, and a myriad of questions about her final days, especially surrounding the rushed judicial process, their abusive relationship (which she believed caused her to miscarry), and the role of Cussen in influencing her decision. It left enough doubt that in 2002, her sister appealed her case, albeit unsuccessfully. She was a woman who dared to express that level of darkness to the end. She stood in front of Albert [Pierrepoint, her executioner] and grinned at him. He wrote about this until he died; he was haunted by her smile. He said he hanged 430 people, 15 of which were women, and she matched the bravest that stood in front of him.
Hi Paul, love the channel and your videos. Request please to cover the great late comic actor Terry Thomas. He was a legendary actor, who sadly hit on hard times before he died.
Keep up the good work. 👍👌
I only discovered your wonderful videos a few days ago as I googled to see what the words were on Ken Dodd's grave. Since then, I have watched around twenty and have learnt so much and really respect you for the respect you show to all these much loved celebrities who have sadly passed on. My favourite so far have to be Brian Jones, Marc Bolan and George Michael. Keep up the good work.
I was self isolating when I found this. And being of a nervous nature I try to avoid these things. But I do find this so interesting. And the presenter seems so nice.
Thank you 🙏
It's chilling to look at her grave and think that the last memory that the person resting there had, was feeling herself drop to her death.
Absolutely right, she had everything against her. Today there would be a retrial
Such a sad story … so tragic 😢
Much love as always 2 u Paul xx
God rest that poor girls soul, they done her wrong
You are so kind a respectful for moving that poor bird . I got my partner to move a snail of a path the other day while we was walking so it wouldn’t get squashed by somebody riding bikes
Bless you! I do the same thing. Why would you NOT? You are a kind soul.
@@DazzleDust32 Thankyou and you are to
Nice one, l remember reading about Ruth Ellis when I was a paper boy.
It’s rather tragic love story. She obviously loved him and was desperate that no one would have him. So much speculation around her too as one story I heard was she pregnant at the time! True or not it’s a blessing that times have changed. Once again brilliantly done and so spoilt with having two parts as well as Terry this week. Thank you
I was under the impression that she could of fought more and with children at home too. The whole thing is just so tragic.
Always sad when a person so young dies and in this case, killed by the Authorities. Doesn’t seem right to me even though Ruth killed her lover. She should have been imprisoned with access to her children. Maybe imprisonment of Ruth might have saved the life of her son, because children do suffer terribly when the security of a family life is taken away from them. I am so sorry for Ruth and her son. I hope her daughter survived and is happy in her life. Rest in Peace Ruth with your Son along with her lover, David. 🙏❤️🙏 Very sad.🥲
Her daughter died but she had children of her own so Ruth has grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Poor woman, barbaric sentence. Thanks Paul
The poor Woman probably just couldn't take anymore, this is a very sad story. And you were very thoughtful and kind to that poor little bird! 💐
Always respectful, I know this case very well, I was wondering if you get time could you do a video on Albert Pierrepoint, because it is related to Ruth Ellis?
Love your channel Paul, been watching for ages. Layton Cemetery in Blackpool have got a lot of murder victims of old buried there. Xx
As an update to a comment previously, a very good BBC documentary about Ruth Ellis and the crime is currently on the BBC iPlayer for those in the UK with access to it if they've not seen it already. It confirms her sons ashes are also buried in this grave.
Do you know the name of the documentary?
@@YorkshireBusGuy Hi yes it is called The Ruth Ellis Files: A Very British Crime Story
Thank you 😊 Paul for what you do,I'm a newbee xxx
Thanks for watching sue 🙏
Domestic violence victims are very often denied proper justice even when they are murdered. The only people who suffer a life sentence are the families of the victim.
I like your videos Paul they are always done with sincerity and respect, I look forward to seeing further videos keep up the good work
Another fantastic video Paul
Really good videos, great content, well researched and presented. I went to Alec Guinness's grave because of your video of him. Keep them coming 👍
Cool, it’s a lovely place there isn’t it….. 🙏
Your channel is growing so fast Paul, I love that! You deserve it, you work so hard and have great content! Can only see your channel flourishing even more 😊 x
P.S. Looking forward to this one.
Thank you Nicola, appreciate that 🙏
@@UnusualThings1 No worries 👍🏻
Very sad story…very delicately shared by yourself…it’s a difficult one as there’s 2 sides to every story…I was in a very abusive situation in my early 20’s…people didn’t believe me when I told them, so I generally kept quiet about it. I won’t bore you with details as it’s a long time in the past now+he has now died, so I can fully understand her snapping+doing what she did, I’m not condoning it either, drunk doesn’t excuse anybody from bad behaviour…my X was an alcoholic so I do understand her reasoning…I hope she is Resting In Peace!!! I enjoy watching your videos Paul, keep up the good work…!!! X🙃❤️ It was really sweet how you worried about the dead bird too…you’re a kind man!!!
I understand how you feel. I went through horrific abuse in my early 20s by a man (all my life since birth) but 21 years old left me with trauma i cannot mend from. My abusers have had great lives with no trouble for what they done to me, especially the one from when i was 21. Meanwhile i have had more of it.
Very interesting story paul keep them coming 👍
Great video. You have real talent for producing interesting content in an engaging way. Keep it up!
If you get the chance , take a read of the book ; Ruth Ellis My sister 'secret life , by , Muriel Jackubait ,( with ,Monica Weller ) You will see , Ruth's story in a totally different light . A real eye -opener .
Sounds interesting. I’ll give it a read.
Poignant story retold well as usual Paul. Seems like her children were as much of a victim as David and Ruth. RIP
Paul you such a lovely guy funny and sweet please stay safe and take good care of yourself your hard work is so appreciated thankyou 😘
Great video as always and fantastic cemeteray location. I cannot believe someone would vandalise her headstone considering she paid the ultimate price for her actions
Thanks for sharing paul.your very good at doing them and very respectful to them.
Love your videos, very informative and historic xx
Hi Paul enjoying the summer sunshine 😎🌞
Thanks for the 2/2 videos enjoy your story's really interesting your the best ! 👍♥️
thanks for this interesting story. another troubled soul. I was wondering would you tell the Derek Bentley story and visit his grave. Croydon I believe.
Hi Paul, I hope you are well. I'm really enjoying your content, thank you. It would be interesting to see the grave, if there is one, of Timothy Evans.
Timothy Evans is buried at St Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Langthorne Rd, London.
The bullet holes from the incident where Ruth Ellis shot Blakeley are still clearly visible in the wall of The Magdala pub in Hampstead, London. (As a small aside, the town in which she was born is pronounced "Rill").
They were faked in the 60’s
Thanks for the upload Paul, watching from my hospital bed in Harefield 👍👍
Speedy recovery John
Thank you, second cardiac arrest in 3 years ... on the mend...again 👍
Get well soon John. All the best 🙏
@@UnusualThings1 thank you Paul 👍
Hi Paul, I'm very much enjoying the visits to the final resting places of some very well known people, another very well known Celebrity's resting place that you maybe able to visit is Sir Bruce Forsyth, if you are able to go there it would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks
Hi Stuart. It could be difficult for Paul to visit Bruce’s final resting place as his ashes are under the stage at the London Palladium along with a number of other famous performers of the past. However, I am sure I read somewhere that only a portion of his ashes were interred under the stage and the rest elsewhere but I can find no reference to that anywhere so I may be wrong and it would seem odd to divide them up. If as implied in every article I have found so far on the Internet, his ashes remain together and so are all under the stage at the Palladium, I would think their final resting place is not viewable by the general public. Maybe one day Paul could get special permission to film and record all those performers interred in what is obviously the most sacred of places to anyone in the entertainment world.
Great sitting with the Screeching crows flying above the graveyard . This was great Paul, thanks for showing me around have a great day and G’day from the Whitsundays Australia
Another very good video interesting and very courteous keep up the good work
Looking forward to watch this one mate great job again 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
I like the way everyone refers to her has Ruth , if it was Peter Sutcliffe no one would be calling him Pete would they .
This is so sad. I think she was a victim of circumstances. Different times. A woman just trying to get through life as best she could. 🙏
I’ve read a book about her. A tragic story of love and hate. Still lingers at the club where they used go…..all very sad. A beautiful place
Just love these videos they are so interesting Paul.
Nice video paul great interesting watch cool
Ruth Ellis did get a lot of support, even a petition i think to stop the punishment she did have a tragic life but it doesnt justify taking a life tragedy tku for this xx
Another brilliant video thank you for sharing take care keep safe all the family drive carefully 😊👍
Hey Paul thanku for doing this request vlog mate .... I look forward too watching it cheers mate 💯😊
Hi Paul very interesting from memory I think the Hangman was Albert Pierrepoint and the story of Ruth was featured in the film .Pierrepoint Another good video you have made Paul..
Thanks paul ,great work and very Interesting. I will watch as long as you keep making the videos. Thanks again Andrew
Thank-you Paul another great video.
so peacefull places like this paul,
Paul more information from you and I like your opinions on all the visits. Well done Paul. 🇬🇧
I feel sorry for Ruth, like she was just used as a “point” to detour for anyone else. I say that because he blakley seemed to be abusive emotionally and physically, young mother, law was already changing…suppose it’s just my opinion. Pretty sad all around. Thanks for the stories, interesting as I never heard of it.
Hi Paul. Such picturesque resting places today. Very sad to hear her son defaced his mums headstone before taking his own life. Hope her daughter is OK
Liked the vlog from Margaret Parker
Hi Paul. Love the channel.
I've not read all the comments, somebody might have said already.
I've seen a video on UA-cam by Liam Galvin, and he put a new headstone on the grave about a year or so ago. But seeing in your video it's gone!! Seem strange. Are they keeping it unmarked for a reason. Be interesting to find out. Cheers Paul. 👍
Hi Rob, yeh not sure about that I literally filmed that last Saturday morning and it wasn’t there then.
do you think it would be posssible to visit Gordon Jackson grave. he was Hudson in up stairs down stairs, the professionals . you cant do Lewis collins as he is in america, Martin shaw is still very much alive. thank you Paul.xx
Sometimes if you look on the site "Find A Grave" you can find who you are looking for anywhere in the country. Tommy Cooper and Kenny's names are on it but it says no grave photo.
always nice to see you paul❤
Seeing all those birds brings to mind an old Alfred Hitchcock movie, "The Birds" Greetings from across the pond in Massachusetts!
Hi Cindy, love that film and it did enter my mind lol…..
So sad for her children sometimes I think you’re pushed to your limit maybe Ruth was pushed to far…. Who knows.
Thank you I’m loving your videos ❤️
two very informative videos, I've often wondered what her story was , would you be able at all to find the grave of Derek Bentley
Derek Bentley is buried in Croydon Cemetery. His gravestone apply stating he was a victim of British Justice
Thank you Paul ☺️🤗 Such a tragic story 💗 Very great telling, like always ☺️👌🌹🌹 Love your videos ❤️ Stay safe 🙏🍀🍀
I saw another video where a chap left a headstone on the ground beside the grave. Doesn't seem to be there now. I hope no one took it 😞 x
Same here. I saw that too. The small headstone has gone. That is a real shame. She had a very difficult life it seems and was driven to despair by his violence. Those poor children of hers being left without their mum. Is it any wonder her son took his own life. 😢
Thank you for these excellent videos Paul. You are brilliant at them. I’ve watched other channels on the subjects you cover but yours is by far the best. 👍😁
Thank you for the reminder Paul. I will be watching you’re good at your job it’s really good. 🙏👍👍
My mum used to tell me about her I believe they made a film. I’m into all what you do for myself and the spirit world believe in that take care🙏
She was a beautiful lady it really sad the way it all ended
Very interesting video Paul. Went into the reopened Magdala Tavern in Hampstead, a great selection of beers. Took a few minutes to contemplate what happened outside it on the fatal day.
Well done paul, another great video. There is the grave of a woman not far from me who was exhumed after it was found that her daughter had been poisoned by the nurse who had been caring for both of them. Tests were carried out and like her daughter she too was the victim of the nurse. Like Ellis the nurse had children, one so young that she was still breast feeding it but she still went to the gallows for her crimes. 👍
Sounds interesting John, if you know the name or location. Would like to look into it more. 🙏
@@UnusualThings1 Hi Paul, the mother was Louisa Baguley, her daughter was Ada Baguley. They struck up a care deal with nurse Dorothea Waddingham (not a real nurse) who murdered them both for their money. There is actually a photo of Louisa's exhumation on the internet. Hope all this helps you and is of interest.👍 . . . Edit, The location is Nottinghamshire and Louisa is buried in the village of Caunton, just outside Southwell.
Have yoh thought about finding the graves of the other 4 women Paul
I like the way you are ĺook around and show me around the graves thank you and I will keep whaching you xx
New to your channel, find it very interesting and informative, I binged watched them all, I'm from Lancashire so it would be great if you could do the Coronation st cast, can't wait for your next post x
Thank you ingrid, I’m heading up north in the summer so will try and get round as many as I can 🙏
