    Coconut sugar is a light brown to reddish-brown crystalline sugar created from the sap collected from blossom stems of the coconut palm tree. It has quickly become a popular natural sweetener in recent years because of its particularly low glycemic index as well as nutrient-rich profile.
    Coconut palm sugar can be a healthier option and tasty sugar substitute for highly refined or processed sweeteners. It is not made from coconuts but tapped from the coconut blossom stems. It provides nutritional value in the form of minerals, amino acids and is helpful for preventing spikes in blood sugar and can be a viable consideration for some people with diabetes.

    Magnificent video. Thank you very much. Good work. Here in Ghana we have coconuts, we make coconut oil but not sugar, so has to be imported and becomes very expensive, happy to have information about the alternative source of sugar. Greetings from Accra, West Africa.

    Thank you for the information. What seems to be left is fact whether the trees' flowers can be repeatedly used to harvest toddy to make coconut palm sugar. And if so how can a tree made used of or many times it can flower in a life of a coconut tree. Thank you. 💙

    I make a coconut sugar dark chocolate bar. I start with organic cocoa beans and organic coconut sugar and finish with a chocolate bar. This has become the best selling bar we have and a lot of people ask who the sugar is made and other suck questions. This video would answer many of those questions. Would you mind if I posted this video to our Facebook page to help educate our customers?

      According to the American diabetes association:
      "It is okay for people with diabetes to use coconut palm sugar as a sweetener, but they should not treat it any differently than regular sugar."

      Coconut palm sugar or palm jaggery in our places.

    This maybe doing more harm to the trees than good it also stops them from being able to product Coconuts.

    • @SuperfoodEvolution
      @SuperfoodEvolution  9 років тому +1

      JoyfullJuneBug We address this in the video but these trees can be set aside for sugar production. It is far superior than sugar cane production too, and the yields are superior...

    • @ppac300
      @ppac300 9 років тому +2

      Tapping the coconuts does not destroy the tree, neither does it stop the tree from producing coconuts. In a single tree there are about 5-10 blossoms from which coconuts grow. Usually only 1 blossom per tree is tapped. That blossom does not mature into coconut fruits, but the other blossoms do.

    • @JoyfullJuneBugg
      @JoyfullJuneBugg 9 років тому

      PHILIP PACHO Oh I never knew it could be done that way. I'm going to read up on coconut sugar production.

    • @ppac300
      @ppac300 9 років тому +1

      Other practices though would tap on one or two blossoms on a single tree and cut the rest to maximise production on the tapped blossoms. If they stopped tapping a coconut tree and let the blossoms grow into mature coconuts, they can do so. It will not destroy the coconut tree itself nor stunt or stop its production altogether. It's akin to cutting roses from it's stem, I guess. It doesn't destroy the rose plants themselves if you cut the plant for its flowers.
