  • A little late but here it is! My trip from the adventure up north in early March, but this time I get to break in the new Indy Specialty Starfire 862cc stroker! This trip started off right away with some good trails but some exciting findings...quickly turning stressful...and then we rounded out the trip with some amazing trails with great views and one IMPRESSIVE engine package.

    Just enjoyed your latest post with a coffee. We were in valin on Mar 3 for four days of riding. Rented a chalet at the ski hill right by where you stoped for fuel. Awesome spot to ride from, everything you need is there. Would recommend it for sure despite the 12 hr drive from home in Ontario. Love the content, I’m a VR1 850 guy so it’s great to see how to improve on them and setup. 👍

      Thank you for the good words! Glad to hear you're enjoying the content, that makes it worthwhile right there! The group I was riding with have stayed right there in the yurts and said they were super cool. I'm hoping to experience a stay there next season for sure.

    Do not feel the least bit guilty about not videoing a ride! I love snowmobiling, but I would hate having to produce a video every time I went for a ride. I do greatly enjoy the videos you put out. Thank you!

      Thank you. I'd say about 9/10 rides I'm trying something new or have changed something so I have talking points that make things easier...it's honestly been the rides where I haven't changed anything and am just out to ride that have been trickier to edit together so they're still entertaining. I do appreciate the good words, it helps keep me going

      What advantages does the 862 have over the 9r?

      Chain tensioner probably broke then took out the chain. If he didn't have the roller tensioner in it

    • @MunsonMotorsports
      @MunsonMotorsports  4 місяці тому +1

      Sled has had the OEM IQR tensioner since day one. Chain either actually snapped OR the head of the lower gear retainer bolt broke off and then got caught somewhere in the mix. Really hard to tell, chicken or the egg type scenario. Video on the fix/repair coming soon!

    Awesome, hope you were able to get out this past weekend as well with the big snow storm we got here in VT. I think I’m going to pull the trigger on a 25 assault. Which track would you recommend the 1.6 and adding igrips or the 1.5 ice storm for same type of riding you do? Also what’s your thoughts on 850 vs 9r? Which way would you go this year? I was leaning towards just going with the 850 because it’s cheaper and a little more proven and comes with a 4 yr warranty. But my dealer will add an additional 2 years making it a 4 year warranty on the 9r also. It is about 2700 more and I know there’s been a lot of clutch issues with that motor in the mountains.

    • @MunsonMotorsports
      @MunsonMotorsports  4 місяці тому

      I did get out after the fresh storm here! I hit VT, Pittsburg, and then two separate VT trips. I *may* get another little blast in tomorrow, but it's pretty unlikely.
      I really wish they would offer the regular 2ply non-prestudded Storm so people could put the iGrips in as they do work a lot better than the factory Camso preinstalled studs. I don't recommend the 1.6 Cobra to anyone, it has a relatively short lifespan (3k miles is about what I normally see folks get out of them) especially on low snow trails/seasons. So with that said, between the two I would definitely go with the Ice Storm and if the Camso ice studs aren't enough, throw some traditional studs in it!
      As far as the engine package goes...I like the idea of the 9R, but I'm still not fully sold on it's longevity and that's a big part of why I went with the 862. I know they've made significant revisions to the P22 assembly for the 9R models...but I'm just not sold on it yet until I see folks getting miles on them without bolt/excessive wear issues. However...if you have the ability to really monitor things and check it over after every ride, the warranty is there....but you risk downtime if parts availability becomes an issue. With all that in mind I would recommend folks go 850 to really not have to worry about downtime in our already short seasons. Then I'd recommend they take the money they would have spent on the 9R and put it into clutching and suspension calibration.

    • @MunsonMotorsports
      @MunsonMotorsports  4 місяці тому +1

      Ahh sorry! I didn't really have any footage of that whole thing. Long story short we did what we could pulling/checking the cylinder #3 plug/coil, no parts there on hand for the 900T's so we just reassembled and made sure there was nothing obviously damaged. The sled ended up picking the cylinder back up not too long after leaving Mont Valin so we suspected a coil. I got the sled back in the shop once we got home, fresh plugs, new coil, checked the majority of the wiring harness over, found a few chaffed wires I fixed up and it's been back out for a couple rides without the mysterious lack of a cylinder issue haha

    3 things every Polaris rider should never leave home without, spark plugs, a tow strap, and a credit card with a decent credit limit! You would think after all these years of chain case issues that they would have fixed them by now, but I guess not!

    • @MunsonMotorsports
      @MunsonMotorsports  4 місяці тому +1

      I haven't heard of many chain failures thankfully....but the vespel tensioner wearing out on the other hand, that I do hear about/see too often. They've all got their issues but some do seem to be worse lately than others

    Polaris quality has gone to S*#T! I used to be a the biggest fan of the Pro and Axys sleds but ever since the Matryx came out EVERY video I see looks like yours , broken axles, primary clutchs FALLING off , chains exploding. Give me a YAMACAT 998 turbo all day long , on a positive note I first rode my Polaris in Mont Valins area, gorgeous!

    Isn't that crazy you need to got to Canada just to get some riding in these days? I just got back from Colorado. Felt good to get ou there and ride again. Been a couple of years. Bummer on the Chain, I installed a TKI belt drive on my SKS this year and love it. No chaincase cover or chain needed. I do carry a spare belt just in case.

    • @MunsonMotorsports
      @MunsonMotorsports  4 місяці тому

      I like the idea of the belt drive, until I remember that if it does break, I don't even have the chain to rely on binding up to stop me! The traveling to ride is a bit much, but I'm still too hooked on the sport to let that stop me
