I love all of your content Matt! The cross gen, egg moves, gen 2, and just plane old gen 1. You’re my favorite poketuber, I love it when I see you’ve uploaded a new video.
damn. perfect storm of beat em down. i've enjoyed watching how your pacing and production have evolved. looking forward to more cross-gen and gen 2 content when you can sneak it in the queue
I got a few more videos left on the backlog. I'm hoping to pace myself some more and get some more skills/put more time into videos in the future when I take some time to self reflect.
My favorite thing about these cross gen runs is the concept that Oak lets some kid out into the world and he shows up as the champion hours later with some shit he's never seen before. Oak: Congrats on becoming the champ wi-... what the fuck is THAT? Red: This? This is a ninetails Oak: No it's NOT.
I find the ones like Slowpoke or Rattata funnier where around 3 hours you return having conquered everything with the champion crown. Especially the Rattata is funny to imagine.
Absolutely love how this one preformed. Both Kantonian and alolan ninetales has been among my favorites. I was not sure how well it would do but I didn't see it out speeding some. It became clear early I should have had my faith and loved the outcome. Looking forward to the next. Real one.
Thanks! Alolan Marowak will be delayed slightly but we have a very exciting and 13 months in the making Parasect video coming out first. To me, Kantonian Ninetales was one of the bigger surprises I've had since doing solo runs. It wasn't the best but did really well for what it had.
These Alolan runs are really smoking the competition! Not one but two new fastest runs!!! As for my favorite regional form, that's a tough pick. Alolan Marowak is really awesome (and it was fun seeing Marowak get some higher tier usage for a stretch of time there), as is Galarian Zapdos (Chocobo!), Hisuian Zoroark, and Clodsire if you count new evos.
Only a REAL ONE adds in clips in editing. It's the little changes (skipping body slam) you do in playthroughs and software tweaks that add up to making, what I think are, the best solo videos.
Nice. Glad you enjoy it. I got a few videos left in the backlog but working on improving the editing/flow of the videos coming mid to late August forward.
@GymLeaderMatt1987 oh also wanted to mention, your video quality has ways been great but the last two months it looks the the cuts are much smoother, tiny details but great work on improving both content and quality!
Thanks, I have a backlog and I'm mainly taking some time off this past few weeks but I'm going to go heavy in quality over quanity soonish. I'm trying not to stress over a video a week and instead deliver a higher quality product but we'll hopefully see the Parasect video be higher quality, then some backlogged vids, and maybe August/September some better things are coming.
You know I'm a real one by now. Love hisuian arcanine, but honestly, my favorite regional variant changes based on what game I'm playing. Great vid as always!
I've been subscribed for about a month now and I enjoy your content keep up your awesome video and you bring newer pokemon to older games is very cool thanks for all your hard work
My two favourites, and I can’t pick between them which I like more, are Alolan Marowak and Galarian Zapdos. They both perfectly capture the intersection between cool and funny/derpy for me and they’re just fantastic!
For reference, these Pokemon also start with either Amnesia or Nasty Plot from level one in gens 8 and 9: Slowking, Galarian Slowking, Raichu, Pikachu, Houndoom, Shadow Rider Calyrex, Lucario, Porygon-Z, Infernape, Monferno, Wobbuffet, Wynaut, Vigoroth and Clodsire Infernape's combination of Nasty Plot, Flamethrower/Flare Blitz and Slack Off is especially spicy.
I knew Z did. Before I transitioned to Crystal runs I wanted to do Heart Gold runs but the hardware is a little finnicky, the game took me forever to beat, and I had to sacrifice the overlay. Regardless, Porygon-Z was the Pokemon I practiced for a few runs.
Incredible playing with Alonan Ninetales! Insofar as favorite regional variant, it's hard to say if I have a top fave. But among my top three, if only because it's one of my favorites made even cooler, next week will be a REAL ONE. For now, it was crazy to see how well the snow-fluff did. Those later gens don't mess around in Gen 1.
There's a chance Parasect releases next week and it gets delayed but either way my next cross gen vid is Marowak but I'm all for getting the Parasect race over with lol.
Alolan marowak can be a good Pokémon depending on its move set although any Pokémon are stronger then the true weakest Pokémon of all times cosmog and cosmoem which are the true weakest and the most useless Pokémon ever considering the fact that cosmog and cosmoem don’t learn any attacking moves nor can they ever be taught any hms or tms at all and cosmog and cosmoem stay useless until they fully evolve into either sogolao or lunala at least magikarp and sunkurn learn attacking moves
Real one! congrats on the excellent run, and I'm surprised at just host powerful it really was (though combining some of the stongest move types in gen 1 with a boosting move probably helped significantly.) Also, congrats to my favorite on the outstanding run! (I'm being intentionally vague so as not to spoil it!)
My favourite regional form (and pokemon in general) is Alolan Vulpix so this is a great run to see. Reckon you'll do well here - STAB ice and fairy is good offence and since steel type doesn't exist (and poison attacks barely exist) you don't really lose out.
I found you this year through watching Scott’s Thoughts. I really enjoy your channel. My favorite regional variant Pokémon has it be Alolan Marowak. Which I watched your video on that just last night. Out of curiosity how did you get yellow sprites in Pokémon red and then how did you make the game look like GSC for the environment textures?
The starting moveset is essentially everything a special attacker could ever want. It was just... the perfect endgame moveset but available at the very start of the game. With good stats alongside that, yeah, this thing just kinda just destroys. Its a REAL ONE.
Real one. Holy damn! It's a toss up between Ninetales and Raichu for my fav alohan variant. But man, I'm glad to see them 1-2 at the top of the leaderboard
I'd say almost certainly not. It's a great idea and whether it be my execution or something out of my control, it just isn't resonating with the audience.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 That's a shame to hear. I personally think the comparison (Kanto vs Alola) runs showing the power creep over time are some of your best videos. Still, the algorithm must be obeyed.
I got some ideas in the pipeline. I'm trying to really refine the process, ideas, and everything between and tomorrow hopefully some of that shines through.
Something that really impresses me is that the current glitchless WR for pokemon red is 1:44 even though they play the game with Squirtle and a nidoran on their base moveset. Goes to show how strong items were in Gen 1.
I don’t know if I can ever get to the record but sometime in the next coming months I’m going to start going for at least a sub 1:50ish actual speedrun. The manips are just intense.
When I saw that starter moveset I was already betting on a great time, truly this was one hell of a run. Great offensive special typing, decent special and speed...and nasty plot to top it off. Truly one fine icy fops. As for favorite regional variants, I would say mine is Hisuian Sneasel and Sneasler.
Since typings are updated with Fairy, Dark, and Steel being in the ROM, would it not make sense to update fire resisting ice? I don't think it would change Blaine at all, but it would be interesting to see if you live stream a second play through. Hope the honeymoon and stuff is good my guy 👍
The main goal for me is to keep the vanilla game intact outside of the new Pokemon. Changing type resistances isn't something I'm interested in. Runs like Volcorona where bug is resisted by poison rather than being super effective is what sealed that decision for me and why I went on the journey to make my own ROMs in the first place. I did have a great honeymoon. Traveled a good bit and have been scrambling to get a video done for tomorrow's run.

You'll be seeing Slaking sooner rather than later. I haven't actually began work on it but I do have the backsprite and some more technical coding done on it. I'd say September maybe?
Yea, I've been wanting to a while but self debuffing moves was a big hurdle since they don't exist in gen 1 but I think the issue is solved. I got like 2-3 things to wrap up before I work on it.
I like G. Weezy a lot too. I notoriously horded high ranked ones in Pokemon Go PvP for years when it was trash because I KNEW one day it would get a move and be decent lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 To be honest i was like "meh" when it came out, but i come to like it because of a fangame pokemon where he was very solid of a pokemon!
I'm not as well versed with creation of gen 2 stuff. It's similar but very different in a lot aspects. I'm sure the simple ROMs would be easy enough but some of the things I'm working on I wouldn't know where to start. It took months to learn to make these and I'm sure someone would prefer a gen 3 run if I made a gen 2 one haha.
A run like this kind of begs the question of "how quickly could you win if every Pokemon could start with access to every move it could learn via Level Up or TM?"
Sure, if their only moves are level 1 moves. It's a little bit of a over-simplification I'd say and a far cry from giving every single Pokemon it's best moves/TMs at the start but to keep this constructive I'd be interested to how you'd handle a learnset like that. Just not pick the good moves? Ban learnsets from that generation?
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 It probably depends on the Pokemon and would require a bit of a dive into the Pokemon databases to see what a Pokemon gets in later generations that could be implemented into a Gen 1 starting learnset (Without going insane from all the coding necessary) Personally it'd be more of just a fun idea to see how quickly some of the Gen 1 Pokemon could complete the game in a sort of "New Game +" setting (Lv. 5, Start with endgame/best moveset, and a Fresh Water in PC to get into Saffron early) and see how quickly each fully evolved or competitive Pokemon could beat the game. I don't expect anyone to actually take on the idea, and I know you're busy with a bunch of other stuff.
so odd to think of fairy as not a great type when thinking of modern gen pokemon but in gen 1 it really is underwhelming, ninetails was beastly though! another fun run :) keep it up man
Thanks! I always like to hear negative feedback. Since you watch a lot of stuff, be honest with me. Does a dominating run with a short length turn you off of watching a little? I’m done with my backlog and it’ll run until mid august and I’m trying to figure some things out before then.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 a little yes, i prefer when something struggles in some places. i do enjoy watching a dominant run in its own way though. machamp and rhydon come to mind with some of my favorite runs.
I figured as much. I think it's best to be sprinkled in. I think once every month or even less might be better unless I splurge a little for holidays or something. The videos hit a lot less when clumped up. I'm just trying to keep an eye out for what is and isn't working and look to improve rather than be down about it. Positivity!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 yeah for some reason the algorithm doesnt like you much, took a lot of years of watching pokemon solo runs for me to even find you. wish i had some advice for you
All good brother. If I had the mindset of this being financially viable and a business I’d have quit years ago lol. I don’t need the algorithm to be great to me.
Only a REAL ONE puts this amount of time and effort into these runs
Yea, I was happy with it. It's a little short but I see now reason to artificially lengthen something just because.
I think the ghost typing will help Marowak immensely because it’s a REAL ONE. Good job Matt
Oh yea, ghost is up there with dragon for defensive typings.
Alolan Ninetales is turning into one of my favorite Alolan forms in my sun/moon runs thanks for doing this!

You'll be seeing Slaking sooner rather than later. I haven't actually began work on it but I do have the backsprite and some more technical coding done on it. I'd say September maybe?
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Oh, beautiful. :D
Yea, I've been wanting to a while but self debuffing moves was a big hurdle since they don't exist in gen 1 but I think the issue is solved. I got like 2-3 things to wrap up before I work on it.
Real One! It was an awesome run, Way better than regular Ninetails lol
K. Nine was really solid. It's like a success story of something set up to fail still doing great!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 true that
Tombstoner brother!!
A tombstoner to you and yours!
I'm a real one for that soon to come alolan marowak run, and for the QotD my fav regional is galarian weezing
Dimmidome vibes does it for me.
How about doing gen 1 Pokemon but with their updated move sets? I think that would be cool
I've done some egg move runs with mixed results. Sometimes I do things like that but it depends on mass interest and how I'm feeling I guess.
Real one big dawg
Appreciate that!

TOMBSTONER BROTHER
That's a predication I can get behind!
The one and truly best TM ever made is TM 28, TOMBSTONER.😂🎉
Real or not real? That's the question.
I'd prefer to see Alolan marrowak in gen 2 with the thick club. Ghost is physical after all. Plus it learns ground moves.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 true enough. I hope to see something like it one day
Really enjoying the content! Keep up the good work brother! 🪦🥤
Thanks! Glad you like it.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 It probably depends on the Pokemon and would require a bit of a dive into the Pokemon databases to see what a Pokemon gets in later generations that could be implemented into a Gen 1 starting learnset (Without going insane from all the coding necessary)
Personally it'd be more of just a fun idea to see how quickly some of the Gen 1 Pokemon could complete the game in a sort of "New Game +" setting (Lv. 5, Start with endgame/best moveset, and a Fresh Water in PC to get into Saffron early) and see how quickly each fully evolved or competitive Pokemon could beat the game.
I don't expect anyone to actually take on the idea, and I know you're busy with a bunch of other stuff.
@@Traysandor Mewtwo with Amnesia + Bolt/Beam and High Jump Kick would have 0 safe switch-ins.
Real one Brother 🤜🏽
Appreciate that, brother.
real one
Appreciate that!
Commenting for besto kitsune!! Love alolan ninetales
Appreciate that, brother.
so odd to think of fairy as not a great type when thinking of modern gen pokemon but in gen 1 it really is underwhelming, ninetails was beastly though! another fun run :) keep it up man
Another great video!
Thanks!
Only a REAL ONE has alolan marowak as one of their faves
It's one of mine but not my fav.
My favorite is Galarian Hau, better known as Hop
Yea, most people say that's their favorite. Easy to see why.
Real one always
And I appreciate that!
My favorite regional variants are actually alolan vulpix alolan ninetails alolan meowth and alolan raichu
Nice. I'm partial to the Galarian Slowpoke lines lol.
Favorite regional variant is sirferched
That's a good one but that's more of a new evolution rather than a regional. The regional would be Galarian Farfetch'd.
