I just realise I watch almost just reaction/commentary channels. And around 10 creating stuff channels.
Honestly, I think we're getting to a point where it's like anything is possible for women now. Like I don't see the problems of starting a commentary youtube channel for women. I know there's plenty of women doing commentary on video games, movies, tc shows, social issues, celebrities, and more. The dominance thing isn't the issue. It's the mysoginistic comments that people make that prevent women from exploring different interests. I watch mainly male commentary because I just like the male commentators that I liked. Nothing about gender. But I will never stand behind someone that doesn't watch a woman doing commentary just because they are woman.
Dominance is 100% part of the issue. It’s much harder for women to climb the ranks, whether it’s streaming, or making UA-cam videos. Most largely successful female streamers are up there because they are attractive or sexualized to a male audience (not all but a lot) and especially around the 2016ish times on UA-cam as well. Things are getting better and changing now tho, but for the longest time, if you were an unattractive girl, good luck getting numbers. Even if you are funny as shit a huge swath of people will hate on you and tell you that you aren’t just cuz you are a woman. Success in general is male dominated. Men are most millionaires and billionaires, most CEOs, most positions of power in many industries. If you are a woman and you don’t cater to the male gaze in your appearance it’s going to affect your career. That’s just the world we live in right now unfortunately.
@@Twink6629-lg3te Yea I get that. I the main point i took away from ur argument tho is that it IS getting better hence why I’m saying the dominance thing isn’t much of a problem anymore.
Yeah, that's why if I ever go into video essays or pop culture analysis, I ain't showing my face. I've been stalked before. I don't need to deal with that again.
you're allowed to play games as a woman, anyone is. the "women aren't allowed to play video games" comment was in a sarcastic nature considering a lot of men irrationally hate seeing women in gaming spaces.
I had not heard of these ladies. I look forward to checking them out, thanks! (Ps as a woman, I feel weird when referring to women as “ladies” bc I always hear a smarmy dude voice in my head saying “laaaydeeees” arms outstretched, prob hoping to share his hot tub later, shirt pos unbuttoned too far (this may or may not take place in the 70s a decade before my birth but its happening in my head cannon as it is soooo….)
Why do you think that? There are a lot of huge female youtubers who don't try that hard. *Cough Sssniperwolf *cough. I'm not saying it's not, just wondering.
@@LeoBezan because sniper wolf is hot. She got popular off of the men who watch her content for those reasons… so that doesn’t necessarily prove this point wrong. Though I think this comment is a bit of an exaggeration ultimately I have no idea how the UA-cam algorithm works so I won’t say anything for sure. Could also just depend on the majority of men vs women on UA-cam as a whole, since I know there’s a large male demographic on here.
That is some promo victimization you have quite literally 0 evidence to prove your claim. The most popular UA-camrs being men is easily explained by… most UA-camrs being men 🤯🤯
There’s social (news, scandals, different tiktokers) commentary and then media (tv, movies, reactions) commentary. For social commentary I tend to watch more women and for media commentary I tend to watch more men. I have no gender preference, but that just tends to be how it ends up being😂

Ive watched a lot of female commentary youtubers, but, atleast the ones youtube recommends me, they seem to have different content. Influencer drama and book reviews. The male commentators I watch lean towards game/shoe reviews, also influencer drama, comedy skits about random things (like I recently watched Eddy's ghost kitchen videos). Theres definitely a lot of woman doing commentary, its just different.
I didn’t know that viewership is mainly female. I definitely knew the creators were male dominated though. I like all kinds of commentary but on any subject
Idk I watch a lot of girl commentaries I didn’t realize it was male dominated. Like I just watched a great video by Spoiled Girly, and I really like Drama Queen, Chad Chad’s also good and yeah I could probably keep going but like I can definitely still see how there is a lot of male commentary videos. I feel like I’m just talking about nothing here
There are a decent number of women doing commentary videos but the big channels are mostly men. Tbh this is pretty consistent with what we've seen in other genres. I've seen a few things showing evidence suggesting AI and algorithms have a bias that favours male creators, which is isn't surprising sadly.
Yeah I feel like of any new channels I've started watching recently have mostly been women. There is definitely a much more even spread of both with newer and smaller creators coming into existence.
This is actually a sort of spin off of his regular episodes called assumptions. They take people that have usually already been in his day with series and ask them assumptions. Anthony doesn't appear in these videos
All the production is done by Nicole, Anthony is the interview guy. I know its his channel, but Nicole and Press a like studio produces it. with a little involvement from anthony.
I keep up with mostly commentary youtubers and have only seen 1 woman doing it. If its not something you actively seek out, you wont find it because they're rarely recommended.
I think it depends on what kind of bubble you're in. I've gotten recommendations for loads of channels that you could consider to also/exclusively do "commentary" that are run by a woman/non-binary person
@ItsBecauseImBored true, but as a whole, I don't think the algorithm suggests women commentators as much as men. If you went to the UA-cam homepage without logging in, chances are you'd get more male commentators suggested. There's definitely some underlying misogyny, even if it's just because the algorithm was taught to not showcase as many women because more people have misogynistic views and prefer content when men create it.
Tiffanyferg makes great commentary videos, and while I wouldn’t call Swell Entertainment purely a commentary channel, she does have great videos where she dips into that sphere.
I have tried on multiple occasions to get my mother to try video games, and while she does play words with friends, candy crush, and so on, she won’t entertain trying even narrative based games like The Last of Us, Frostpunk, or anything. She is regularly impressed with the graphical fidelity of newer titles, and I would wager I could get her to watch along with something like Detroit:BH, she doesn’t seem interested in the interactive component of gaming.
hmm from the ones you mentioned she likes, they seem more of the board game type? Maybe she likes interacting or competing with friends? the games that you suggest also feel like something you have to play for long hours to engage in the stories, while Candy Crush and Words with friends are quick to learn and visually have less information.
@@tninotmaruthis, and it seems she’s more of a mobile gamer. The narrative games you mentioned don’t seem to be mobile compatible. It is a big leap for any gamer to switch their console, she might be against that too!
For me these big games have been very intimidating for me for a longest time. It takes lot of kinda... Idk knowledge and skill that you get just by being used to playing games. It's kinda hard to jump straight in you know. For me it took Valorant when it was still very new to get into shooting and Portal and It Takes Two to get into more story games. They were both super simple easy to understand with very little investment and stakes and i kinda builded up from there.
There's a lot of woman in youtube commentary, but they not always showing their face, so when you look at thumbnail you don't know what person is this. They make comments on movies, games, books and more things outside tik tok. So they have litlle audience here. Tik tok dramas or strange creators will create more female-dominated bc it's platform mostly used by women. So if you want more women in commentary maybe you should look on different topics and give some love to small channels
@@bishielurfer yeah, maybe you right. I just thougth that they don't have to focus on tik tok stuff and end up mentioned different genre 😅 but think that OG commentary channels also do those reviews so it s not that rigid definition on what can we call commentary channel

jarvis’ software engineering content is was got me into programming yearssssss ago. don’t know where i’d be now without that, i still watch him, of course! surprised there were so few other women watching it lol
I feel like, unfortunately, a lot of women don’t do commentary because our opinions are often ignored or discouraged. Also women get a lot of hate automatically online. People are just more critical of women. I don’t even usually bring stuff like that up, but that’s where my brain immediately went.
funkyfrogbait ! i heavily recommend their video on nasty tiktok chefs and their barbie movie video. they are great starting points and show how funny their humor is but also in the barbie one touches on some really good real life stuff
I love Kennie but she's not a commentary channel, she a reaction/review channel. She has a couple videos that dip into commentary but it's not her main content genre.
tbh i watch mostly male commentary youtubers (james marriott and that bunch) but the one woman i watch consistently (and not just random videos i come across that seem interesting also by women) is jaclyn glenn. i LOVE her.
Women in general seem to be more passionate fans of whatever they like In comparison to men who seemingly drop creators at the drop of a hat pretty easily.
@@kaidevaleria2531 nah dude, I was making a point through sarcasm. I was hoping somebody would be like, "why does that matter?" to which, I would smuggly point at this short
@@mattz459well your original comment is actually valid bc different demographics of people have different viewpoints. i’ve watched multiple videos relating to the same topic but they all have slightly different viewpoints bc of their backgrounds. a white woman may talk about her experience with idk like buying a car just from a gendered standpoint and a black man may talk about it from a racial standpoint and then a black woman would talk about it from a racial and gendered standpoint that takes intersectionality of two different oppressed/marginalized groups into consideration. your background really matters
@@mattz459On top of the things already described, one additional reason could be that it's important to expose yourself to different cultures and ethnicities. Where I live is not very diverse and this can lead to my brain going "how unusual" for a split second whenever I see someone who looks vastly different than me. I don't want to think about people that are different to me as other so I think it's beneficial to normalize it by seeing it more. And one easy way to do it is to seek out creators that are e.g. black - which sometimes can actually be hard because the algorithm has stuck you in a mostly white bubble. The first black creators I had to actively seek out and only later did they then also get recommended to me.
@@ItsBecauseImBored Let me pose a question: What’s the difference between a Black person and a White person or anything other person, for that matter? Aside from superficial differences and self-imposed ideologies, there is no difference. Your scenario was odd to me. I have to assume you don’t live in the United States. Regardless, I find your reasoning to be a bit hypocritical. “I don’t want to think of other people as weird so lets divide ourselves by how we look so I can focus on one particular group instead of the other.”

@KillDjay Most of those people don’t do commentary though? Jenny Nicholson is more of a video essayist, and Kennie JD mainly does movie reviews
@@thatcher6923 IDK about reviews, but I'd say video essays can definitely fall into the commentary genre (I wouldn't always argue that though). I think Jenny Nicholson's specifically definitely do; they're longer than typical but that's about it.

I watch many Male Commentators, especially video games. Though there are a few females I do watch via video games. 😅

Didn't ask. My content is far superior. Cp is unironically more entertaining than this video (not club penguin)..
That is some promo victimization you have quite literally 0 evidence to prove your claim. The most popular UA-camrs being men is easily explained by… most UA-camrs being men 🤯🤯
Is this toxic feminism 😅
There’s social (news, scandals, different tiktokers) commentary and then media (tv, movies, reactions) commentary. For social commentary I tend to watch more women and for media commentary I tend to watch more men. I have no gender preference, but that just tends to be how it ends up being😂
I have a theory that it’s not just the audience that used to watch the tech videos shifting to more women, but just a lot of them transitioning.
there was 100% a time when YT thought i was a guy bc i would get ads for ED treatment 😭 but when i started getting into makeup i started getting tampon ads
Same thing use to happen to me..i am a tomboy in STEM and i used to look out for Technological stuff,Philosophy, video games and work out videos and i used get red pill, and misogynistic content..
Now it's alot better, because now i get pryssbrynn, lean beef patty, Nicole, Chad Chad,

Theres definitely a lot of woman doing commentary, its just different.
yeah but there definitely are women out there doing the kind of commentary that you do like, just gotta search for them lol
There are a lot of women doing the same content as someone like Eddy. You haven't seen them, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.
I didn’t know that viewership is mainly female. I definitely knew the creators were male dominated though. I like all kinds of commentary but on any subject
Idk I watch a lot of girl commentaries I didn’t realize it was male dominated. Like I just watched a great video by Spoiled Girly, and I really like Drama Queen, Chad Chad’s also good and yeah I could probably keep going but like
I can definitely still see how there is a lot of male commentary videos. I feel like I’m just talking about nothing here
There are a decent number of women doing commentary videos but the big channels are mostly men.

There's a lot of woman in youtube commentary, but they not always showing their face, so when you look at thumbnail you don't know what person is this.
