The digital side of things sound quite similar, but the ST is still complementary on the analog part. Especially when compared to the DN OG. The only reason the DNII stands out at this point is because of the fact #Elektron didn’t give ST users what was expected, more development on the analog part. The recent update was all about digital and sequencing, nothing on expanding its analog power. No new things on the analog FX Track or machines. The hardware is capable enough, but with the short time between the DTII and DNII releases it is clear they keep the real improvements for STII. My guess is that it will be released in Q1/2025. Again, not because the ST hardware is to old or isn’t capable, but simply because they don’t want to cannibalize on new hardware sales. Still, when compared to DT OG and DN OG the ST still has its unique value and advantages.
thanks for making this video! digital filters are sounding really good. I will try a few more things when i get my DN2, namely noise pinging, but i heard so far that they really sound close to analog.
Great quick comparison! Both devices have excellent sounding filters. I could hear a tiny difference in the first demo, but as you said, in a finished track it likely wouldnt be noticeable. It was much more clear to me in the bass frequencies later in the video, although it's a little hard to know how much of the difference is in the oscillators. The bass sound you played on Syntakt after 5:50 was certainly more loose and "organic" sounding to me.
It's just a matter of tuning and dialing the right parameters, even for that bass. We're not comparing a moog and an elektron, these two are extremely similar, in the worst case nothing a light eq adjustment can't fix in my opinion
Yeah it definitely sounds to me that the SY's VCOs are driving a little harder into the filter stage, and that's causing the high end to roll off slightly and brings out a couple mid range harmonics a bit more. It's a very subtle difference tho lol. The filters on both of the digi 2s sound noticeably better than the old digis, I don't think it'd be as close of a comparison if you were using a digitone 1. I'm assuming it's because of the better DSP on the new ones
Great video , can you please do one comaring the digital filter on syntakt and see if it's the same as digitone , if so witch one ? (legacy / 4 / multi ?) Thks or just simply make us hear them ... well , like ya did just wann hear if the digiatl filters better in the digitone , not a fan of the syntakt ones (digital ones) Thks again
The digitone 2 outclasses the syntakt in almost every aspect. Wavetone is a very flexible VA, it's closer to the real thing than what most people believe, myself was in the process of porting the analog drum machines to the dn2... Won't miss the fx block as it was a gimmick to me, it always felt like slamming a dirty pedal on a master track. As for the nice quick digital sounds, I still have the good old cycles.
I sold mine as well. I don't regret it. The Digitone II really is fantastic and I don't miss the Syntakt at all. It has everything I wanted to have on an Elektron box. Together with the Digitakt 2, a fantastic combo.

@SignalBenders yes, that's what I meant - they're both quite similar and quite good! I don't think there's anything to "fix" ;)
Thanks a lot for your comparison !🙏

Thks again
Don't have the Syntakt anymore 🙁
@@SignalBenders Oh , why so ? i do think syntakt will be a classic once it's no more produced lol
@@ZozillaThaGreat DN2 is deeper and can totally replace the ST
Do you have doubts about selling Syntakt?
No doubts, no regrets
@@SignalBendersIve been thinking about selling mine as Im not that keen on the sound, may I ask why you sold yours?

Tbh Elektron's analog stuff isn't their strength. Their analog things always sounded quite digital to me.
