I feel like the TF-39 is noticeably better than all of the other options. It has such a clarity, and pleasant brightness, that none of the other mics are close to matching. I feel like I could close my eyes and pick it out of this line up every time.
Depends on the voice I own all three of the original runs. The 51 is much better for higher pitched male singers or women and the 39 is much more of a typical male voice mic. 39 is one of my go to for clients. 51 is one of the best sounding mics I've ever heard on my voice and two of my clients hate using anything else. All depends on what your sound source is. Sadly theyre all awesome which hurts the pockets
I definitely like the 39 too. Maybe in a few years I'll find one on the second hand market.
I wonder if the 11 was purposely made just a little more brittle sounding to differentiate it as the least expensive?
The tf39 sounds amazing. May just be my next mic.
Finally!!! Someone finally caught on!! I’ve had the tf39 copperhead for about 2 years !!! Love it . I told telefunken it will be legendary
The smile curve of the TF39 just sounds very catchy and comfortable to the ears.
I have used the TF29 a lot in the past, It's my favourite vocal mic to date and I am very tempted by the TF11. When you buy a telefunken you know you're always going to receive a fantastic quality microphone
The TF-51 looks good and sounds even better🔥. Grate video 👍🤘
Thanks a lot!
I got the TF51 and it's great for hip hop/rap...
facts I have one working on building my vocal chain with it
I'd love to hear the difference between that pop filter and a more standard stedman pop filter.
Great video! I have the Slate VMS mic, etc. & found out that the emulations I like the most were by Telefunken. I purchased the TF11 soon after & got a Manley Core tube preamp to go with it for any warmth, but the TF39 & TF51 sound amazing! And now that I’ve learned (& still learning) more about the uses for FET vs Tube, this test makes more sense! Thanks again!
Thanks for watching!
Hey brother! I am about to buy a new microphone for my home studio, and I want a very modern and bright sound, but without sounding harsh, and I was thinking about the tf 11. my voice is nasal and full-bodied, would you recommend it? Or maybe I lean towards a tube microphone? I love the 251 style sound
Came for the TF 39, stayed for the Lauten. This mic gets me everytime.
Great microphones with great sounding qualities
Great review
Dope content as usual
Thanks for watching!
I was wondering why these weren’t included in your last big shootout. Great follow up video
I unfortunately only got my hands on these a few weeks ago.
@@EdwardSmithMusic hi bro, please tell me if you ever had a neumann tlm 49, does it sound better in other ways, works with male vocals, which one should you choose?
As always good review 🆒
Thanks man!!
Great job man love your vids
I appreciate it!
@@EdwardSmithMusic hi bro , place , tell me , what is best , better for male vocal with( Rme BF pro fs) tlm 49 , sony c100 warm audio 8000 , australian audio 818 , telefunken tf 29 , 39 for home studio?
I've never heard of this brand before. I'm gonna have to do more research they sound great. Wow.
I have the TF11 and was debating if the TLM 103 would've been a better choice. This video came at the perfect time to help with that decision. Thx!
Are you not satisfied with the results of the Tf 51!? Lol
I need more feedback please lol
@@dre3809 I stayed with the TF11. The CK12 styled capsule with the Canrhill transformer places the mic in an ELAM 251 territory sound wise. Pair that with a 1073 styled pre with a decent OPTO compressor and you've got a vocal chain comparable to the ones used by artist like Drake and recently Jay-Z at a tenth of the cost. The idea that more expensive means better is a myth at this point. Hope that helps! lol
@@BeatsBangcomtv it does help a lot!! Thanks a bunch man!! I was wanting to go with either the U87 or Manley Reference or this one and I haven’t heard them in person just with headphones online but seemed to me this one and the Manley put the vocals in a more “up front” sound off the bat than the U87 or maybe is just more “current” I guess with like BadBunny, Justin Bieber sound etc. I’m sure the U87 does sound professional and up front too but just too warm for what I’m looking for and to be honest I was also debating about the tlm103 but I’m thinking this one or the Manley but you just helped a lot!! Gracias sir 🙏!!
And man actually.. I know is simple but do you have any thing or videos on what you do to your vocals as far as processing, eq, delay reverbs etc? I guess I should look under your videos lol
It may be subtle or you might not do much but just know your voice is on point bro.
No different than any great male artist after process and engineering.
Cheers
@@dre3809 No I don't actually, but maybe I should take this as a sign to do so.
Cheers
I'm a user of TF-29. I think the best one is TF-51 in the mics on this video, but for some certain purpose, TF-29 is so reasonable and even better for some case. I'm totally satisfied with this mic.
I have the Cu29, which is the predecessor of the TF39, same thing different name, looks identical, it's awesome!
If you enjoyed this video, don't forget to SUBSCRIBE 🙏🏻
Hai Edward,
Thanks for the nice reviews.
What would you suggest to buy if you had to choose between the TF51 or the Soyuz 047 fet ??
I have same medium male voice as you.
Testing now the tf51 but the mid/high are not that warm I was hoping for. The rest is superb!
Does the Soyuz 047 fet deliver that expectations?
Greetings from Holland
Yo, your voice man rocks🔥🔥🤘🏻
Awesome video! Compared to your previous mic shootout, which microphone would you consider your favorite so far? I was initially being convinced to buy the Lauten Audio Eden LT 386, but these telefunkens seem to be so good for the price!
My favorite microphone has to be the Neumann U87. I also like the Lewitt LCT 1040. The Telefunken TF51 is the best under $2000 💪🏻 If you are a fellow subscriber, thank you for supporting the channel!
Nice review
Thank you!!
I already own the tf 39.. I love it !!! But would replacing it with the tf 11 be a bad idea?
Great review and great performance! I thought the song was yours but then I looked up the lyrics and realized it's a cover. yet the best one out there :) (inc. the original)
I'd like to know, if you're willing to share - what did the post processing include? what reverb? anything else? did they require considerably different gains (pre/post)?
also, I'm wondering - could it be that in 4:15, the video shows the 103 but the sound is still from the 39?
Anyway thanks a lot for the video (and the other one about tube mics). I have a 103 and love it, and I thought about getting the TF11 but after seeing this I think I'll go for the 39.
love your singing!love your voice
You and I have a similar voce type when singing. I like the Ft 39 and then TLM 103. The Ft 39 will be my next microphone acquisition.
I have the t51 and it’s the best out of the 3 Telefunkens.
telefunken mics are just insane bro❤🔥
Just got the TF51 and I have to agree 🔥
@@danielsaintmusic come one now I got one too and noticed that shit is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great video bro! wow those mics sound amazing! I still haven't decided between a warm audio wa 47 or a tf29 for my home studio.
Which one would you recommend me just to record voices?
Im having that same problem myself
@@rocd1188 i Think the best option is tf 29
I like your style bro...!
Thanks so much!!
hello edward! i know this is old video but I wanna ask what your pop filter used here is? thankyou so much
nice review
Thanks!
@@EdwardSmithMusic would be awesome if you reviewed the king bee 2
you should make a microphone tier list with everything you have tested!
That's a great idea!! I'll do one at the end of this year 💪🏻
The tf39 murdered the competition
It’s a nice Video thank you.
I use the rode nt-1a😁

Okay tf39 is now my dream mic
this is crazy that this popped up in my recommended because I'm literally in the middle of deciding on a TF51 versus a Neumann mic. thanks for the vid!
Awesome! Thanks for watching 💪🏻
Hey man,
if you’re choosing your 1st mic in general I recommend you to go for the Neumann by any means.
It’s a workhorse and very neutral and you’ll get a very good result with every artist/ instrument.
The Tf51 sounds astounding but it’s not a workhorse. It has a phenomenal detailed high end and lovely low end. It has a velvety texture and sometimes it can make other mics sound boring but sometimes it’s too much and you want a more neutral mic (that’s why the Tf51 shouldn’t be your only mic).
Tf51 will make some recordings sound like a hit already and sometimes it’s just too much so it’s a matter of preference.
I personally went for the Neumann 87 and everything I just told you is a review from somebody I asked about the Tf51. I’ll get the Tf51 soon as my 2nd mic.
I hope this helped.
@@kma997 hey I just saw this! Thank you so much for your thorough and thoughtful response, just a little update on my mic journey so far:
My dream mic is definitely a neuman u87ai, for the meantime I went with the neumann tlm49 but found it to be lacking the crisp “air” and top end I was looking for on my particular style of vocals as well as my clients and the genre I produce. I opted to get the TF51 after all, and I’m blown away! It’s warm and full while having insane detail and smoothness as well as air in the top end. By far my favorite mic I’ve yet to try out besides the u87. Thanks again for your response, cheers!
@@danielsaintmusic hello brother, I am also faced with a choice, tlm 49, 67, shur ksm 42sh, telefunken tf 11, 39, can you advise?
@@user-uj6yu1jk2b the tlm49 was great on acoustic but lacked the top end air and modern crisp I was going for especially at that price level. I think there are other mics in the $1k range that sound better than the 49. The TF51 however is one of the best mics I've ever used, and I don't think ill be needing another mic until I upgrade to the U87 one day! excellent for modern vocals if that's what you're using it for
really suprised how well Tf39 captured your voice .That mic really killed it! sounds so goooood with your voice man. May I ask what pre amp & interface did u use?
Thanks man!! I used a Scarlett 18i20 audio interface and Warm Audio WA-273 Preamp
@@EdwardSmithMusic hi bro, please tell me if you ever had a neumann tlm 49, does it sound better in other ways, does it work with male vocals or telefunken tf 11, which one should I choose?
What external pre amps do you use? Try to find them in the description but didn’t find it. I bought a N-TLM 103 but thought it was a little fuzzy and scratchy sometimes. So, I returned it and bought a TF11 after watching your video. My TF11 will arrive tomorrow. Hopefully it’ll be smooth and super clear when plugged to good pre amps.
He says it in the video. A warm audio 273
Edward can you do vlm-1 microphone review
I have the TF29 and it's been the best sounding sub $2000 mic I've used on my vocal (and that's including several Neumann mics). I agree it wasn't a good fit for you. But it usually shines on most voices, in my experience. You have lots of high frequency content and not a lot in the bottom end... It's a great voice but not very representative of what most male voices will be throwing at this mic. I think this is an amazing mic for most singers who exist somewhere in the baritone and tenor ranges.
I have it and it is indeed punching hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars higher. I also have the Mojave MA-1000
Could you do an eq tutorial?
I have the TF29 which is basically the TF39. I was able to get it on sale for 40% off used from B&H. But man, I wish I had known about the TF51 before I purchased the TF29. I have not heard one person on that Mic that didnt sound bad.
Double negative lol
The best way to show mic comparison is to sing a same phrase with all the different mics, instead of cutting off in between phrases
Got the temu telefunken knock off. Shit goes hard.
Thank for the time and effort making this video. Very interesting choice of microphones. But I get to hear only a few seconds of each mike (solo channel playback) .... And your mouth is almost always not align with the capsules of the microphones .... mostly too low. And you are moving a lot compared to the close mike position of the test. I like to hear mikes tested in that close mike position, but then the position of the singer should be always exactly the same. Best wishes and all the best for you
the tf39 and tlm103 sound almost perfectly identical or is that just me ??
hey bro, what do you think telefunken tf29 is better than warm audio cx12? or are almost the same?
To be honest. I would take the Telefunken over the the Warm Audio. Both sound really good, but the build of the Telefunken mic is much better than the CX-12.
@@EdwardSmithMusic what about the sound? Which is more clean? Csn you test them?
could you compare the elgato wave lp mic arm to the rode psa1+ ?
Would you please caption your videos so your content is accessible? Rev is a great, inexpensive transcription service.
The shock mount the tf11 comes with is caca the bands broke after a month luckily it didn’t happen when I was using it dont even understand how it broke so quick all I can think off is maybe the heat cause gets hot were I’m at in Cali maybe if I was not cheap maybe ac could of saved its life span
Sorry guys but Neumann products are definitely out of this world :D 4:41 incredibly smooth!
Not sure who remembers Warm Audio and “forget” telefunken 😆
Bro :) test vanguard v 13 tube gen 2… you will be shocked…. It costs 1100$… mic shines… amazing feel and rich sound… I faced it against u87ai , Manley , wa 47… oh man… it has won… amazing mic!
Telefunken's classic microphones were made by Neumann and AKG, while Telefunken was only the distributor despite having their own logo badge. Telefunken of today and the old Telefunken are very different companies. Having said that I do like their modern microphones, but they aren't a 1:1 of the past.
Weird question, if you know the answer of course? Out of the TF 51 and Manley Reference Cardioid, which one would you say or think that puts the vocals up front in the mix straight from the bat without even fiddling much with EQ?
I was really considering U87 but is like these two mics (Telefunken and Manley) are making me second guess the Neumann. It sucks when you can’t buy them all haha
Thanks!
I don’t have a ton of experience with the Manley though it’s definitely on my wishlist. I do however own the TF51 and can confirm it’s very warm, forward, and has a beautiful and crisp top end air! I’m sure the Manley is even a step above. But I’m happy with the TF51 🙏🏼
@@danielsaintmusic man I really appreciate that bro!! I’m so torn! I really want both haha
I think what’s making it or breaking it is the silence of the mic. I hear the Manley is a little loud. Nothing that breaks the deal I hear but I saw a review on it. How ever his vocal sounded amazing!! I think I know for a fact that the TF51 is pretty quiet. Hopefully you can confirm that for me. But yea also I heard that buying a Telefunken tube for about 90 bucks and replacing the Manleys solves the problem but idk idk
Ima have to pull the trigger soon.
@@dre3809 I don't have much experience with high end mics other than the u*& and my TF51 and the Neumann tlm49 that I bought and sold. overall the TF51 is pretty forgiving with noise floor as long as u are relatively close and don't have the AC on haha
@@danielsaintmusic lolol
I hear you. Man I’m so torn right now. I have a decent pre and a decent compressor and I really wanna make this right. But I do have a home studio so is like idk
Im getting this offer of $600 off of the TF51 because they messed up my previous order and so that makes it really tempting you know
But they may be able to credit that to a different mic and I might get the Manley for $600 off.
Im so nervous because I don’t wanna make a mistake hah
I have the 1073 pre from Bae and the MC77 compressor from Purple Audio
And I get an amazing sound from a U87 clone so I can’t wait to hear a legit microphone
Is literally my last missing piece to the puzzle
I believe and I’m beyond thrilled but also beyond nervous bc I don’t wanna make a mistake lol
@@dre3809 well to be honest if I had the extra money id probably get the Manley myself. this is purely from video reviews and not personal experience so take that with a grain of salt. ive seen a lot of comments lately saying that the TF51 is their new go to even after trying expensive "better" mics! but the manley is definitely legendary. I think you'll be happy either way
hey bro do you think the telefunken tf29 is better than the lewit pure tube? what about the akg xls? thank you!
I really like the Pure Tube. I haven’t used the TF29, but I’m sure it’s a quality mic too. If I had to choose now, I would go with the Pure Tube.
@@EdwardSmithMusic sorry i mean tf39 you use in this video
but bro you are showing them in the video how you didnt use them :D@@EdwardSmithMusic
where are you from? I don't recognize the accent. good videos bet
Could you do the TF29?
It is possible that I pay for the microphone in three instalments?
Not sure. Have to check Sweetwater and see if they offer that option.
Love the tf51 but they still don't sound as good as the tlm103. I'm running my 103 through a 1084 into a cl1b and it sounds much silkier than the TF51. Did'nt try the 39 or 11. Anybody else think the tlm is better? or am i crazy?
Yeah, I agree. I liked the delicateness and silky sound of the TLM-103. I unfortunately keep getting reminded that neumann make superb mics and are expensive for a reason. But It's very hard on my wallet to make that conclusion!
The Lauten sounds really boxy
oooooh bro! on your voice it is SOOOO hard to choose out of the Neuman, Lauten, and TF-51! great video!!!
TF-39 wins!! 🙌🙌🔥🔥
You english people pronounce TeleFUNKEN funny! 😋
They sound amazing but wouldn't really call them "budget"
Better buy U 87 Ai. These mics lag something at one or other end. Watch podocastage.
Lauten - top
That TF-11 is so bright 😣
TLM 103 is best.
😂 no that’s a #fact
4:27 4:49
You should try these out with a singer.
tlm 103 sound best with tf51
Uff
I don't like any twkwfunken microphone.
Why dont you speak properly, instead of trying to make your voice sound deeper? It doesn’t. It just sounds like you’re running out of breath 😂
You missed out the TF47, arguably the best in the entire range. I've been using a U47 for around 12 years and it's so close to that it's ridiculous. You do need decent preamps for these microphones however, don't plug straight into an interface and expect miracles, they need good juice.
