The end wasn't like you expected (or maybe it was lol)... We don't have much experience against galleons, but after watching the video myself, I noticed a ton of things we could have done differently... I'm uploading this so you old sea dogs can give us some tips on battling bigger ships as a Sloop! Feel free to point our mistakes and make suggestions. Thanks *rolls on deck laughing*
i have an advice. do not go against gallys, even a cracked crew u cant sink a decent gally. only one cannon cant hit enough for a gally to sink. the only chance of u to win if the gally crew is ass. not in ur case anyway. even if ur cannoner is cracked he wont be able to sink a gally
One thing you gotta do to beat a gally as as sloop: board. If you dont board, you just cant win, its too many people to bucket and patch against 1 cannon to shoot
Stay away from broadside, try to stay behind them zigzagging, get masts down, get to a point where they have a few holes, patch your ship up, send it in a circle and double board. Fire bombs are extremely effective on galleons.
cursed cannon balls, and even just firebombs and blunderbombs, are your friends. Fire is harder to deal with on a gally, it won't do a ton to hinder a GOOD crew, but it will distract a middling one. Blunderbombs work wonders, though. blunder their cannon line if they have broadside so they can't just alpha you. Blunder the mid deck where the bilge stands to prevent repairs and cause buckets to backsplash. Gallies are hard, if you get into a bad spot with a sloop there's almost no chance of recovering. the key is overwhelming the gally before they can overwhelm you. it isn't in any way a fair fight, so simply trading standard shot is not going to get you a win unless your cannoner is incredible and their whole crew are noobs. edit to add: overwhelming also prevents them from boarding. if they have pressure from damage, fire, dead or overboard crew from blunderbombs, they can't spare the manpower to board you. and if they try, they're going to neglect their own ship and sink
Great fight! The fact that you had your sails at full when you were broadsiding them is a great idea. You just ran circles around them for the most part. You did get in their broadside a lot which is generally not a good idea. Have you considered using blunderbombs to guard the ladders?
One of those guys already has highest level guild cosmetics, so clearly they are very experienced, but there's still a lot of room for improvement here. For one, you're doing WAY too much with your sails. Especially against a galleon, you don't need to be worrying about sail angle. only raising and lowering for speed. There were quite a few times you were going way too fast while moving in on them. Going around the back very close to them you had sail all the way down, meaning you couldn't make a sharp enough turn to keep them in cannon range, and putting yourself directly in their broadside. Awareness is very important, learn to listen for sounds and keep mental track of the condition of the ship. If you know the mast is fully repaired and takes a hit from a regular cannonball, let your cannoneer throw another plank on it when reloading because you needed to stay on the wheel. Learning sounds will help with the boarding issue. They were able to board multiple times because you just weren't looking. But there were also a bunch of times you were unnecessarily looking too much. Learning the sounds of both a player being fired out of a cannon and the sound of them on the ladder is crucial. And less important but it will save resources if you learn to prioritize food better. If you're at 25% health and take a bite of pineapple you'll be back to 100%. There were a few times you'd eat a mango or other piece of food to get you back to like 75%, then take a bite of pineapple to top it off. If you're below 50% just eat the pineapple so you only use up one piece of food. I know all of this is probably stuff that you know on paper but lose track of in the heat of battle, which is entirely understandable, but keeping a level head will come with time.
My guess is you can’t win a fight against a galleon where all 4 people know what they do… maybe with curse balls but else I don’t think you have any chance. But it is only my opinion :)
Well angling initially at 1:10 made no sense as they pulled off for no reason the first time, sure… I assume they wanted to get the gally back on the left side, a anchor turn would of been fine here. When they were getting close at 4:20 he actually did the right thing angling here as they were risking getting broadsided going any slower or cutting in too tight… that seems to be what you’re referencing. A big missed opportunity was at 5:55 when they had an opportunity to remain stopped at the galleys bow, he panicked when his teammate died and dropped sail full and risked their broad instead of straightening the wheel out and remaining in place for a moment… and then the cannoneer needed to be flexible to switch roles for that moment and allow the helm to remain in place to put pressure on the broad and dodge shots.. Imo he was honestly bucketing too frequently which caused damage to build up and overwhelm them near the end and prevented an opportunity for them to board themselves, remaining at full speed was initially better for them here, but they needed to get repaired and send the boarder to keep pressure. Raising sails full in their broad without even visually confirming their spin and what the galleon was doing was a major mistake… Panicking at 8:00 to bucket was the biggest mistake here, should have had the cannoneer handle that bucket after the rep, and dropped sails immediately and straightened the wheel for a second there instead, they would have been impossible to hit. That 3 second loss in time and slowly turning back out into their broad is ultimately what got them sunk. Prioritizing his health over the mast catch was another major error. But yeah, ultimately it takes a lot of failures to improve efficiency, knowing this info sometimes isn’t enough due to the inexperience under pressure. Even so, nobody can be perfect. Agreed they didn’t fully check ladders when they heard the splash and were checking unnecessarily way too much. My pro tip is to not ladder guard as much and use blunderbombs to try to knock players off ladder instead, don’t stop spamming until you hear them splash back into the water, and wait a second or so between throws unless they’re very good at catching. I have had tons of 5000+ hour sweats cry at me in frustration because it’s usually impossible to board me without deckshotting. It can be more effective to have them swimming for a merm than trying to secure a kill/risking hit reg. This can allow a cannoneer to remain on the ship and ladder guard with little reason to lose time abandoning the cannon.
You fighted well sir, u two have good arms combination, but it's very difficult to do something when they have 3 people or even 4 on their ship, you have one gunner and they can have 3 at the same time that makes it more challenging
This may sound counter intuitive but I thought that having the skelly curse ment to be unsinkable, and this gives me hope i can one day claim it. (You two played very well, i'm just saying that i thought i was never going to be good enough but your level of skill seems far more reachable than the one you see in a lot of clips)
Yeah, everyone uploads their best wins only 😂 But skellys and ghosts sink all the time, me and my friend has sunk a ton of them, and also have been sunk a ton of times by them lol But I assure you once you get it, battling against people who don't have the curse will be a piece of cake haha
Brother I have the golden skeleton curse and still sink. Everybody does. This game is way too inconsistent and full of factors out of your control for anyone to be perfect.
@@K4k1__it’s not too difficult to get it’s important to remember that there are going to be times that you sink you just need to remember that sinking isn’t a big loss
You had to abandon the helm and take refuge inside the ship to regain health at 8:12. The galleon no longer had an angle and correcting course was not a priority. That was the point of no return.
One thing is try giving them your left side, You take less holes on the left as a sloop than the right. Still, You've got your skelly and I don't yet so you can't be doing too badly :P Also keeping a crud box of food and blunder bombs behind wheel is handy. When you hear them on the ladder just throw a blunder, knock 'em straight off. excellent helm work though! kept behind the Galleon a lot!
One thing that will add more pressure against galleons if you are a smaller ship, fire. Fire is very annoying to put out on a galleon, especially against captains quarters. And like others said, board once pressure is enough. Drop anchor, put storage crates/stand over water grate to prevent faster boarding, and/or try killing those below who are repairing
Make sure not to jump around on deck when someone has boarded since it’s very easy to get knocked off if they have a blunderbuss or blunderbombs, better to zig-zag around them, also if you’re in a broad side-broad side with a galleon it’s better to aim at the cannoneers rather than just getting holes since every active enemy cannon is a significant increase in your likely hood of getting one-balled, which you can’t really afford when being outnumbered 2-4, also would come in very hand if you adjusted your angle and speed to the speed that the gally is turning so that you can continuously be at the galleon’s rear without them having angle
@@sloopernoobsHere’s how you sink a gally. A death spiral can be bad in some cases cuz their massive fire power, what you could’ve done is raised in front of their ship and shot firebombs, then sent one boarder over; and defended your sloop against any oncoming boarders
Before this video i saw Sloop VS Sloop and it take 10+- minutes ,but you down Galeon in 9 i mean its cool to know how to do in Situation when enemy have on 3 more Shots and on 2 more heads

You got too close. They were competent enough to shoot back when they could, that caused the sink. Also you should’ve recognized it was time to pull out tbh

Not as sweaty as I was expecting. Galleon seemed kinda brain dead from the start and the sloop crew looked like dumb & dumber out there
Thank u so much for this capt Latham!! This is a true masterclass
