Gerber Strong Arm is legendary, and their zipper pull knife is very original, stealth, and handy in a pinch. My first modern folder was a sale item $5 Gerber many years ago: serrated (lol) with horrible centering. But i didn't know better at the time. The only few other Gerber's that I like is the EAB utility knife (it's so small) and I got their exchange a blade folding saw as well (so i can always have a sharp saw, hopefully the blades are worthwhile, haven't tried it yet)
I just picked this up, it's solid as a rock ,you way have a bad knife ,got it at walmart on clearance for $14:00, mine is razor sharp, give it chance, again you got a really bad one !!😊😊
You just got a bad one that slipped through Gerbers sometimes sloppy quality control. This really is a good knife for its price point. When sharpened properly it is scary slicey. Fit and finish on mine is flawless. Have not been able to master the spidey flick on mine yet. Has become my daily carry. Not sure if you might want to revisit it or its smaller brother the Asada. Cheers,
Quality is definitely lacking with every Gerber knife and tool that I have ever owned. I've had several over the years but never paid more than $60 bucks for them. I've sense moved on from Gerber and no longer buy Gerber products.
My Rat 1 is my "go-to" beater knife, so it gets used the hardest. Everything else gets used so lightly, I can usually strop them back to normal. The Rat I can get an "ok" edge on a kitchen rod after about 50 passes per side, so I tend to do that when it needs it, which isnt often. If my XM or any other high end knife really needed it, i'd send them back to the original maker for sharpening. Only had to do that once (zt 0095)
I just got this for a gift , it is dull not Sharp at all , very hard to open once opened very hard to unlock . Not a nice knife at all . Might make a nice pry bar
Love ❤️ it,,Gen2,little stiff but it can be worked out with oil and flicking just because 😂 😂 😂 you can..Nice blade.. 👍 I have same Aluminum Grey scale...
I did not think you’d be reviewing this knife, but, as Nick Shabazz would say, “there you go.” I wanted to like this knife but every review is just terrible. I guess it’s a good thing for reviews, right?
suggesting you could run your finger over the blade is really too exaggerated. i get it, it's not the sharpest, but it cut paper. it's not exactly Z-hunter, and i wouldn't run my finger against even a z-hunter.
I can cut paper with scissors too.. that doesn't make the edge sharp to the touch. I meant that literally... "it isn't sharp". It wasn't an exaggeration.
Way over priced. Should be around $9 bucks and they should be competing with the likes of TAC Force, Elk Ridge, MTECH, etc. Maybe even Schrade and Smith & Wesson.
Legendary Garbage The visual appeal went away entirely upon seeing the brand as well as that hideous pocket clip. Haven’t bought a Gerber in decades & likely never will buy another.
This is the newer updated version.
I just picked up this knife, and I'm really liking it so far.
Mine came the same way but after I sharpened it, it slices like a champ.

I REALLY like the blade shape

I picked up the Micarta one from Cabela's and it had the stiffest action and hardest to actuate liner lock, hated it so much I gave it to a friend.
You should review the D2 micarta version. I find that for a cheap knife it’s pretty good
Got the d2 micarta version, damn good knife. Way better than the 7cr versions.

Speaking of crappy edges, have you discussed sharpening at all on the channel?
As an amateur, I try to stay away from that topic. My skills are very limited. Touch-up stropping and a LITTLE stone use. Not much.
@@metal_complex gotcha, that makes sense. Do you have somewhere you send your blades for professional sharpening when needed?

Kitchen rods are seriously neglected in the EDC knife community lol i use mine all the time too
Awesome! Glad to hear I'm not alone!
Gerber is almost fucked up!!!the only Gerber what you can use is the Gerber STRONGARM!!! R.I.P GERBER

Shame. Looks good from a distance.
Check out Artisan Cutlery’s straight razor folder. G10 D2 I think for 60$. Way better than this garbage
Found it. Bought it. Thanks for the tip!!!
Gerber? More like Durrrrber

Z-Hunter is a much better blade
Lol
Needs sharpened right out of the box; agreed on the steel. Wish the steel was 8cr 13 not 7c.
They make a d2 steel version now
