Thank you Dr. Shereene Idriss, I am 29 years old and was a newbie to skincare world around 1,5 years ago. I must admit that I was bombarded by so many information out there. I followed at least 5 dermatologists on UA-cam and that made the situation even worse. I didn't know which product to buy, which routine to follow, I constantly on the hunt for the next products until I saw one of your video when you mentioned about "LISTEN TO YOUR SKIN". That woke me up, and ever since, I didn't follow any specific routine. I listen to my skin every day and night to decide what products to use. And it such a game changer to me. Thank you for being you and being awesome. Love you!

Hi Shereene, I always love your videos and appreciate your thoughts and input. I think it's useful to note that skin cycling is a flexible framework that is meant to be adjusted as you learn to listen to your skin. I've shared a lot of videos and blog posts over the past year + on these topics and they cover some of the same points on retinoids! I am very much looking forward to learning more about Skin Rocks and of course, your Pillowtalk Derm products! Thank you for sharing your tips and viewpoint - it is also valued so much on my end.

I’ve built up to “intensity” over the last year. I’m pretty aggressive, and I’ve almost Never had any inflammation or irritation. I can do almost anything to my skin. However there’s a couple things that will make the area around the eyes burn a bit, I gently wash off with a warm cloth & sometimes follow up with Aveeno calm & restore 3xoat serum. But I’ve only had to do that a few times. I know what not to put near my eyes, including some things designed for eye area.
So what I’m trying to learn now is finding the middle ground where I am getting maximum efficacy, using the least amount of products. I’ve been alternating every other night (or day, depending on when I’m using my glycolic acid overnite cream). I alternate tret .05% & .10%, every other day. Using vit b & c right after the tret.
Cerve glycolic overnite renewing says use every nite. So the last 2 wks I’ve used every nite & done my actives in late morning/early afternoon. (My glyc around (10-11p).
There’s not enuf time in the day for the other things i want to put on my face becuz of piling.
I have a several serums I like to use, so I have to find a place to get them on. Plus some creams (q-10) & face oil (hers). Some things I have are combo of ingredients so I try to be aware of if I’m already getting something somewhere else.
I use a lot of hydrating ingredients so I don’t always find a place for moisturizer. Sometimes I even wash my face (warm water only) a few hours after the actives so I can get some serums on. My sunscreen is LRP Athelios anti-ox/vitC serum and it’s very moisturizing.
I’m just hear to learn how I can better cycle my products to have max effect without over using.
I even do the spritz thing for fun sometimes lol (lrp & vichy aerosol spray & Pixi I have numerous face mists)
Sleep on satin pillow. Take collagen peptides. Run humidifier. Take vit & supp (collagen prod assist plus immune/general vits). I have numerous sunscreens, different purposes diff times. lol
I used to baste in winter but have no need rn. (Triple paste or Vaseline)
Try to take care of my lips and body skin. Amlactin lotion, gold bond retinol cream, Oil of Olay retinol body wash, sometimes LRP triple moisture cream.
I use cleanser 1x/day: vanicream or aveeno calm & restore or Cerave hydrating cleanse or LRP hydrating gentle cleanser.
    I love having choices.
I have a couple other glycolic acid products but I seem to like the Cerave 5% nite skin renew tx(also has licorice root & kojic acid)
Believe me I’ve spent 1,000 hrs plus in the last year learning from you Dr, and about 6-10 others Dr’s.
I’d like to go into skincare specialist.

I've heard you mention the no retinols on the chin thing in many videos and I entirely disagree! I worked through healing adult acne for years and this is exactly the part of my face that broke out-literally nowhere else. The chin is such a common location for adult hormonal acne. It's my chin that needs it maybe the most! I'm currently using the LRP adapalene most nights. My acne is totally under control now. I also have dry skin, so when coupled with thick & occlusive moisturizers overnight, retinoids on the chin has completedly changed my complexion for the better.

I built up to 5 nights a week with the Inkey List Retinol and now I am 4 nights a week with the Geek and Gorgeous A Game 10 a retinal and will soon try 5 nights. The plan is to eventually start Tret next year and see what happens. I make a decision on the off nights if I need to use a chemical exfoliator and usually it is just a BHA serum on my nose where I seem to get more blackheads. About twice a month I use an AHA or PHA exfoliator if needed. Will skin cycling work? Yes...for beginners because I feel like it worked for me and I am mad I didn't come up with the name and copywrite it!!!!

It takes a lot of trial and error to find a routine that works for your own skin, I've found that using G&G A game one night followed by Tropicals faded the next night, followed by COSRX aha/bha toner the next night works for me and I don't need a night off from using actives. Glycolic acid doesn't work for me at all as it leaves me needing a fortnight off using actives to repair my skin barrier, learned that the hard way!

I've been in retinoic acid for 6 months. But now, my derma has prescripted a cream that has:
    0.025% retinoic acid
    8% salicylic acid
    1% clindamycin (some antibiotic)
He say "trust me", and I've seen amaizin results in their patients with the same formula, and the have hormonal acne (as me).
But, I'm just scared. An I have rosacea, dry skin. Like...
Has any derma told you to do the same? is he crazy? should I avoid this?
Thanks and sorry for my bad english

When I started my skincare journey I didn't know much about exfoliating acids, your videos and warnings about over-exfoliation really helped me. At some point I realized both my moisturizer and vit c have salicylic acid in it. Should I continue using them in the morning (with spf) and is this even considered exfoliation since acid is at low percentage and mixed with other ingredients? Thanks a lot for all the amazing advice so far ❤

      @Giraffe27 Рік тому

From what I’ve read, vit c works well with spf and sa works deeper down in your skin so it’s fine to use during the day and spf is a must.

I wish there was a chart somewhere with all the different retinols/retinoids and their strengths compared so we knew relatively what a step up would be if switching between them. Like, how does Avene's .1 compare to a .25 tretinoin compared to the granactive? It's so overwhelming!

    • @morgianasartre6709
      @morgianasartre6709 Рік тому +3

There is a general upward strenght chain: granactive retinol -> retinol -> retinal -> adapalene -> tretinoin. But it is hard to be precise as there are new forms emerging every day, like encapsulated retinol, that do not have the studies behind it and it's effectiveness so you can only make guesses, with everything otc we can't really know just how much of the product gets converted to retinoic acid (and it would vary from product to product, because there are also an abundance of cheap retinols on the market which are more than likely unstable and not bringing in the same benefits as those from companies with a lot of r&d). Plus at the end of the day every person is different, some can handle 0.1% tretinoin no problem, some can't even use retinol daily no matter how long they try, some fair better with tretinoin than they do with adapalene etc. So long story short, it's not simple enough to just put in a nice chart.

My skin would freak out if I do skin cycling. I have very thick, oily skin that is not sensitive. I need my BPO wash in the morning and my tretinoin and prescription strength azelaic acid in the evening daily in order to have completely clear skin.

question, would it be okay to use a salycilic acid cleanser on night 1, differin on night 2, and benzoyl peroxide + clindamycin on morning 3, and have a 3 day cycle? i also thought about doing the salycilic acid and differin on the same night and incorporating one day of rest but i thought it might be better to spread it out. i have acne and by using all of those steps every day i blasted my skin barrier and now my face is peeling off and the color of a tomato and it stings 😅 i’m thinking of skin cycling to get my skin used to the ingredients again once i finish my skincare diet

Super informative video, thank you! I am going through a tough time with my skin. Always suffered with acne, it's been way better in the past years since I have been using Differin and Epiduo. However my skin is super sensitive, even if I take recovery nights and apply those over moisturisers. Recently they don't seem to help anymore and I'm getting loads of spots and pie again. I didn't know it'd make sense to use a prescription as well as a orc retinoid. I am tempting to drop everything and focus on recovering my skin barrier, then I'll try something milder maybe. The brand I've been looking at is Geek and gorgeous, they have very affordable retinal serums with amazing reviews

Dr Idress, I love you and your advice, but not ALL of uscan afford $100+
for a Tretinoid product! I am a disabled RN living on SSDI less than $2000/ mo, most if which goes ti mortgage/utilities. I was married ti an MD for 10 yrs, so I remember how nice it was not to have to look at price tags! Ive been using Curology .1% for several yrs ($39/mo and includes Azailic Acid and another ingredient I cant quite remember!). It may not be as 'cosmeticly elegant' but it works! I started w Differing Gel (cheap & OTC). Im not saying you shouldn't talk about Skinceutucals and Drunk Elephent, but please keep in mind that we are in a Inflationary period, moving into a Recession and the average wage where I live (New Mexico) is $12 to $13/HR. Thx!
By the way, I have used the Ordinary Granacive, and it worked great as an introductory Retinol !

    Hi Shereene!
Thank you so much for your fun and informative videos, I watch them all and think that you are just wonderful! A question; I live in Australia and as I checked out the Skin Rocks product you recommended, I saw that they don't ship that particular product here. Would the one from The Ordinary that you mentioned be ok, or are you aware of any other brands that carry the same active ingredient? And, of course, are good? All my best wishes

Dear Sheerene, I must say that if I was wasn't enough of a nerd before subscribing, now I am even more and diligently check all components list on the products I use. I live in London. My question on cycling: I alternate routines not much because I need to, but more because I love several products but at the same time want to keep it simple. So at night after cleansing I alternate between a Pixi glycolic toner + Estee Lauder Night Repair serum and camomile baeed toner + Omorovizca retinal serum (not sure about retinol %) . Then I apply the same Omorovizca night cream every night. Does it mean I may not get any benefit because each serum is used 3-4 days a week? I have started doing this because I believe less is more, but what would your advice be when you love too many products? And would love to hear what you think of Omorovizca ... Thank you for reading and for your posts, I appreciate how hard it is to find time for a Saturday AM post and how committed you are
