Indeed. I got Fi dominant vibes while watching movies many times. Saw some people seeing him as dominated by feelings a few times too, even suggesting things like borderline.
As a resident diehard star wars fan, a. This video was so fun to watch, and b. There “is” a Fi-Ni grand scale (and even altruistic) goal for Palpatine to create the empire, but it’s now shaky because of Disney’s having changed the previously-established canon- the short version is, he knew there was a great threat to the galaxy, one that it wasn’t on track to being prepared for; but rather than warning and trying to improve its state through more conventional means, he decided to uproot it all, and rebuild it so that it could stand against that threat- under his direct control.
It's fun to deep dive into fictional characters like this. In a way, it helps explain how personality types and cognitive personality theory works better than when the listener is trying to compare how the theories relate to himself. I'd agree with your assessment of these characters and of Star Wars in general. A fun listen. I'm going to share it with one of my favorite Star Wars fan groups on Facebook as I think the members will enjoy listening to it.
Padme is quite hard to type, she’s quite dry emotionally in the films and her character isn’t really fleshed out behind her being a “good-doing” politician and Anakin’s love interest. We’re not really exposed to any of her flaws, only ever her virtues which makes it hard to identify her inferior function for example.
I find your movie character typings so good. I think this was one of your best. The only one I don’t fully agree on is Obi Wan, but I thought your reasoning was fantastic and I think you nailed Padme and Qui-Gon Jinn. Well done, I wish there were more in the community who typed the way you do. It would be a much better place in my opinion.
You can attribute type changes between movies to something happening that could change the person's type, but you can also just blame the writing and consider it a mistake! After all, inconsistent or poorly thought out characterization is not uncommon in fiction. Granted, it may be more interesting for some to think about how the person's type might have actually changed, which is fine too.
So happy to see more of Star Wars: The CPT Connection Hope you are doing well Harry, and am looking forward to when we are able chat again (likely late September)!
Interesting how Anakin Skywalker is a character that was first portrayed as an Estj and then in later movies as its complete cognitive opposite Isfp 😁 I hope for Squid Game analysis next 🙏
Great content, many thanks. It would be really awesome if you do this for GOT. There are many controversial characters in the series. For example there are big disagreements between people for Jon Snow (ISFP vs INFJ), Petyr Baelish (INTJ vs ENTP), Sansa Stark (ISFJ vs ESFJ), Daenerys Targaryen (INFJ vs ENFJ vs ISFP) in Personality Database website. Or maybe they are all wrong...! A video like this definitely resolve the issue. Also Bran Stark is a really interesting character to type because of his story.
Finally! Thanks so much for the video. Result-wise I'm not entirely convinced, but the analysis gives me quite a lot new perspectives. The "change in personality" mostly originates from the intrinsic discontinuity: star wars start out from a simple story that probably didn't expect further series, so a lot of the new contents are quite confined by the set result, leading to the focus shifting from telling a story to fixing issues after another, sacrificing the continuity of characters for that of the story (which ironically is no longer existent...). The Clone Wars series give quite a nice explanation connecting the old characters, but much of the story development is dedicated to fan service, resulting in further discontinuity in character personalities. It's definitely a good story though, and I look forward to your reactions after that.
Great video Harry. I have enjoyed pretty much all your videos and have find them invaluable in my quest to get even more As in my Psychology masters. Which as a dyslexic, wouldn't have been possible pre iPads and the UA-cam era. Keep up the good work and perhaps this video will help explain the cognitive functions to my friends, who don't have a clue what I'm talking about when I mention the subject. Regards & my sincerest thanks for this & your more mind bogglingly & intellectualised high quality content from Scotland!👏
Would you consider doing this for the main characters of The Good Place? I feel like that's a show that goes into quite a lot of depth about how each character thinks, and I'd be really interested to know whether or not the types on personality database are correct.
On the other hand, this video made me realize that there seem to be a lot of Estps mistyped as Entjs, and probably vice versa as well. Probably the most out of all Se doms, who are already hard to tell apart from each other sometimes. Hopefully you'll make videos for other types who are less popular or misunderstood, and shed light on their actual underlying cognition. Also i'm wondering what Harry thinks of enneagram, big 5 and other parameters within the typing community? Just wondering, cause i struggle to find the actual importance and to make sense of the other, more behavioural parameters lol. It is more of a symptomatic approach i guess and it is very random and changeable. I think a lot more can be deeply understood with diving deeper into the cognitive makeup.
Anakin seems like an INTJ. He’s basically a walking existential crisis who’s totally blind to Fe 😆. SeTe divergence will have an existential crisis over the smallest things I swear-they’re a hilarious type. NiFi tries to constantly relate itself to everything and make sense of it’s destiny while they sort of unwittingly cement it. Similar to the INFJ who has to reframe their whole framework because they gained a new perspective that “changes everything”. 😆
Thanks for another interesting video! I hope you make more of these. I'm pretty sure that my mum is an ENFJ and my dad is an ISFP, with myself (likely) being an INFP.
Thank you!!! Fantastic, I've loop some videos this week and appreciate the soft spoken voice as the studies. 🏟📜🗞✒_______________ HAVE A GOOD TIME TRAVELLING!
Are you about to make something like this about Star Trek. TNG??? I think especially Star Trek is more about different personalities that come together as a crew defining the social dynamics of society. That whould be NICE!
@@CognitivePersonality Cool you like it! I'm looking forward 4 a new episode of yours. And: I've rewatched your 4 subtypes of the Entp. It gave me deep insights into my own personality and a better understanding. Hope you keep it up 4 a long time! Good work.
Hello there! I just wanted to start off by saying I really enjoy your serious approach to this topic. It's quite interesting to see the actual principles involved rather than just cute stereotypes or even analyses based purely on the 4 cognitive functions. That being said, without concrete examples I sometimes struggle to follow exactly what you mean. I'm wondering if you could do a video on well-known people that you think are agregiously mistyped? For instance, everyone just assumes Johnny Depp is an INFP but is that actually the case?
I'll consider it, one of the reason I've avoided that so far is because we generally see the persona of a celebrity more than necessarily who they are, and, more than that, we only get interviews with them, whereas with fictional characters we actively see their Te (for example) being employed real time
@@CognitivePersonality I totally understand, that makes sense. Just out of curiosity, is it possible to type authors based on their work? Or identify what functions are being used based on the style?
Nothing to do with this video, but just a suggestion/question: have you considered taking the audio from your videos and posting them as podcasts? I have “watched” them this way sometimes (when I can’t watch the video and can only listen) but it’s a little clumsy. Not sure if it makes logistical sense on your end but I think they’d adapt well to that medium as well.
i always figured that anakin might be INFP because of his strong Fi and because INFPs can be more analytical than the stereotypes, and that when he falls to the dark side he enters grip stress becoming more like an ESTJ (get stuff done as efficiently as possible)
I remember you once mentioning ISFP's will look upto fictional characters as their role model. And would want to become like them. Do ISFP's only do that? Or other types also do thar? If yes then what are they?
I'm glad you noted the Fe in palpatine, tho I'm not sure I agree with the angle of it being an expression of Te purpose; I think I understand what you mean there, but I'm more inclined to believe it's more straightforward than that, that he is what happens when an Fe-dom is more or less universally hated and alone (and imprison or make ded on site, kind of status), and so his whole agenda revolves around pitting his enemies against each other and trying to morph his world into one where he is the socially acceptable person and his enemies are the hated ones now (like a petty revenge fantasy kinda, but also the only path he can see to bringing about any kind of social harmony that he can be involved in). The cult leader archetype, to put it one way. His motivations are kind of murky, so I can see the argument for Te power for the sake of power, but I think the surface cognition fits Fe-dom more smoothly. But anyway, whichever way that goes, what baffles me is I see palpatine typed as an introvert a lot (INTJ or INFJ) and I'm like thinking, this is a dude who was public enemy number one by nature of being one of the only sith in the known galaxy and STILL chose to build power while hiding in plain sight under the role of a politician, right in the midst of his enemies' headquarters location. It's just so unfathomably bold it makes me want to consider ESTP (which can also be adept with Fe) tho that one struggles to match up with the long-reaching plans he sets in motion.
People with DID have a personality that is split up into various compartmentalized fragments. None of them is really a complete personality. The true personality is the one that results from the integration of the fragments and resolution of the underlying trauma.
Which Star Wars characters would totally adore being typed, which ones would absolutely loathe it, and which would lie somewhere in between? Rank them please.
That would require more in-depth with their characters and being much more hypothetical. Off on a limb, perhaps maybe Anakin, Qui-gon, Jar jar, Luke even as well maybe as more likely candidates if say the world of CPT exists in the Star Wars universe. My guesses though. Not sure if the rest would be ambivalent or skeptical towards it.
Watching the prequels I typed obi wan as intp lol 😆 padme as infj and anakin as isfp. I guess I was kind of close. But honestly I would see obi wan as isfj before I saw him as esfj idk
So Anakin/Vader becomes individuated by leaving the world of Ni archetypes and embracing an Si reality of who he really is? Is this the path for all ISFPs in your opinion to become more stable and mature individuals? Great video thanks
Anakin is also an enneagram 6, and an excellent example in psychology of many behavioral patterns. As bad as the movies are, his writing was actually complex.
Anakin being an ISFP is a good typing for him 👍🏼
Indeed. I got Fi dominant vibes while watching movies many times. Saw some people seeing him as dominated by feelings a few times too, even suggesting things like borderline.
As an ambiverted ENFJ, Padme really does sit well with me so thanks!
I think I’m INFP and she seems very much like a more extroverted version of me
As a resident diehard star wars fan, a. This video was so fun to watch, and b. One Star Wars thing that I'd forgotten to mention that I'd seen last time was The Force Awakens

ESFPs can also do this, as can ENTPs to an extent. Sometimes INFPs and INTJs may experiment with it during identity construction also :)
