    1. Cold
    2. No hiking - River and forest - so far away
    3. Plane tickets are expensive especially in Russia.
    4. City is really huge - 1 hour to travel or more - traffic jams are almost always
    5. Not a high level of education.

I'm from Russia and I want to add a thing about education: if you look up Russian state exams (everyone who has to enter a uni passes them, it's not like a-levels or something), you'll see that it's way more hard than, for ecample, SAT. Also, there is a whole olympiad movement where super motivated kids compete in all kinds of subjects andeven take places at the international stages. Which of course is an index for the quality of education.
If you get to the top-5 universities and in the faculties which are especially famous, many of your teachers will be just living legends. Going from Higher School of Economics of MSU or MIPT Uni to Oxford for magisters degree is still an alluring idea, though. In the other ones, what is said in the video might way too often be true - but I think it's like this worldwide

You mentioned that Moscow does not have enough days of sunshine. On the other hand, California has too much sun. It has not rained enough over the past 20 years and as a result, we have many fires during the hot summer, causing the sky to turn brown and ugly, the air unhealthy to breathe. Yes, the rest of the world envies us. Today is a bit chilly and I would wear a light jacket outdoors, but it is still 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, The snow is visible on the mountain peaks. Everyone envies the warm weather here.

I understand you. I'm Mexican and I lived over 3 years in Peter, I fell in love of the richness of its people and culture. The things is at the beginning I enjoyed cloudy and snowy days as a rarity (Mexico is mostly sunny), but after a couple of years the weather really becomes a burden. Regarding education I had mixed thoughts, I studied my medical specialty in psychiatry at the Pavlov's first medical university, and it was great, education at the psychiatric hospital was top notch, the problem is that I saw university education in general is... Lacking a lot. Gosh I really miss Russia and the friends I left there, after the pandemic I'm looking forward to going back. Loved your channel, keep it up!

Sounds totally opposite to my experience. When I went to Moscow, everyone spoke English. I also went to St.Petersburg and Krasnodar and everyone spoke pretty good Englishand the travel was incredibly cheap. From what I heard, including reviews - education in Russia is amazing. I wish my city was grey, in Perth, Australia, it's sunny all the time and I'm allergic to the sun, so I could really benefit from the cold climate and lack of sun. Who needs cars when you have a subway? I have to drive my car for an hour and a half every day to get to uni. My life goal is to save enough money and move to Moscow or St. Petersburg.

Vlad Bychkov firstly I really wanna say how happy I am that you had an amazing experience in my country ♥️ For you it seems so cheap, because there is a huge difference between middle salaries in Australia and Russia. For Russian Australia is incredible expensive! Speaking about education, just believe me, it’s not good (of course there some universities that have good programs but in 95% it’s not so good) I know what I’m speaking about. Subway is amazing (especially in Moscow - one of the best things of the city). I hope your dream to become true and you will live in Russia 🇷🇺🌹 Good luck with it!

Hey Dari! :) Awesome video. I just want to explain something. The purpose of higher education is NOT to give you information that you cannot find online. You can find EVERYTHING online. The purpose of higher education is to break it down into bite sized chunks so that you absorb it better and more efficient than if you tried to do it all by yourself. It is the same reason why people GO TO work, instead of working from home. Working from home requires an INSANE amount of self-discipline and rigid self-structure. Higher education makes the information go down smoothly, in small, bite-sized chunks, so that you absorb it better. (hearts) I love your video! Thank you for it ~A Fellow Nature Lover :)

For Russians it's maybe expensive to travel in Russia. But I can tell flights from Finland to South-Korea and back may coast 600-800€ when flights are cheap... From Moscow to Vladivostok and back its possible to find 200€(17000rur). Distances in both cases are not that different. And it still cheaper when travel from Helsinki,Finland to Moscow, then to Vladivostok and from there to Seoul, South-Korea than straight flight from Helsinki to Seoul. All flight tickets change their prices all the time, so they can be different every day when you check flight prices from Aeroflot, S7 etc. Train tickets have almost everytime same prices.
Im very tired of Moscow. Its city of possibilities nad there is many nice places but they are far from each other. Travelling with metro can take more than hour. And without rush hour time there is maybe no places to seat. Prospects you can't cross sometimes.... Have to use tunnels. Maybe not good place for relax. Vladivostok, Krasnojarsk, Tver, Irkutsk, Petrozavodsk, Sochi (not Adler... the old one!) are nice places. You can walk everywhere and in Sochi and Vladivostok you have mountains and amazing nature with turquoise colour water. In Vladivostok you can smell Pacific ocean, like somewhere Spain you can smell Atlantic. Also Vladivostok has cool cultural things from Japan, Korea and China.

    This is my thoughts:
Funny how your topics is what all big cities has as a dilemma. Where could you hike safely near by a big city? To commute is hard in all big cities. Best education is abroad in the worlds best universities and this issue is getting worse everywhere. That only tells that Moscow is like every other big cities in the world and that's positive ☺️👍 It's hard to find the bad thing about a place you like 🤔 18 new metro stations per year might help one of the issues👍 I hope we never be able to change the weather, it's easier to move to the climate area you prefer.

You need to visit my hometown - Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States of America. We have 280 sunny days a year. Sandia Mountain is at the east edge of the city, approximately 1,731m above the Rio Grande river which is at 1,524m. You can see the Sangre De Cristo mountains, the Jemez mountains, and the Manzano mountains on most of the 280 sunny days from any moderately high place in the city. The bosque (Spanish for woodlands) along the Rio Grande has 20m tall cottonwood trees (close relatives of the black poplar in Russia). Public transport comprises buses and the RailRunner commuter trains and does not provide universal coverage. However, even at rush hours the auto commute from one extreme to the other of the city is about an hour and a half. We only have one University in Albuquerque but the quality of education sounds like it may be higher than what you describe.

    1. Lack of sun - indeed
    2. Lack of nature - You are in the biggest country in the world with billions of acres of nature. You mentioned lack of safety, maybe that's a disadvantage.
    3. Kamchatka is extremely unpopulated and far from Moscow (Russia is an enormous country), it probably doesn't make sense to have cheap flights there.
    4. The fact that a city is huge is not interesting, in my country we have lots of small cities, but many people need to move from city to city in order to get to their work/university/whatever. And it takes 1-2 hours as well. The fact that Moscow is one big city and not divided to many cities is artificial. You can still live near the center and be closer to everything, just like in any other place in the world.
    5. Traffic is bad - this is true for every super interesting and central city. No exceptions. You have a great metro, this is not true for every city.
    6. Bad education - You look quite smart. I've met many smart people from Moscow. I guess this is due to good education overall. If you all think university is not difficult and a waste of time, maybe it means you're all smart and overqualified for that university (still, a sign of smart people and good education).

    • @DariStep
      @DariStep  4 роки тому +2

thank you so much for your comment 🙏🏾
Speaking about point 2 - I mentioned the luck of nature NEAR Moscow (In addition to forests and rivers where there is not much to do in my opinion), and if you wanna go to natural places (and we have a looot of them)it takes a lot of time and money.
Speaking about point 3 - Kamchatka was just an example. To all known natural places in Russia (like lake Baikal) traveling is very expensive (as well as the flight, and on the spot)
4 - The disadvantage was not that Moscow is a big city, but that people spend at least two hours a day moving around it. And Yes, me for me the downside.
Speaking about education, well thank you. But it’s bad. And I perfectly know what I’m speaking about.
Anyway, I shared my opinion about it ✨

@@DariStep The tallest mountain in Russia is Mount Elbrus and it's near Sochi, to the best of my knowledge, it's not expensive to go from Moscow to Sochi. Also, it's a very mountainous area (the Georgian border). What about Ural Mountains? Lake Baikal is again very far from Moscow, but you have many nearer options.

Yakir Dorani I was supposed to go to Elbrus next month but because of virus I had to cancel the trip. The tickets were 290€ round trip (not to Sochi, to the airport close to mountain). Hi. I live in Russia.
I do not understand how you can so persistently judge education when every second person in Russia is outraged by education, as well as by the fact that the children of the entire oligarchy and government official study abroad.
In Russia, this is a reason for the anger of many citizens, parents are outraged by the education in schools, students - in universities. Many of us suffer from teacher idleness, many of us leave universities with empty heads. In large measure, this is why our lack of education dictates humility when there is an arbitrary rule of Russian government.

  • @rhian2033

In Australia, to fly from the east coast to the west (Melbourne to Perth is 2700km) costs average AU$400 , considering it's 6,247km from Moscow to Kamchatka, the cost for internal flights in Russia seems ok....
I miss Russia, i was in Moscow during November and December 2019

      Thank you for the feedback!
But please take into account the fact that salaries in Russia are low. And 99% of people do not have the opportunity to travel to places like Kamchatka.
I'm really happy that you liked Russia, and hope you will visit my country again!

You made me laugh - when you mentioned the 4th drawback - spending most of your day travelling ))))) One of the things that I always said was interesting living in Russia was the insane amount of time travelling - in SPB I lived on outskirts of the city and my faculty was just by the city centre and it would take me 2 hours at the best of times to travel one way - and to drive - forget it BUT when I first went to Moscow I got the shock of how many traffic jams there was and how much time I spent in the car waiting to go somewhere (which is why I like the metro system) I will disagree with you one the greyness of both Moscow and Peter - I LOVE it and especially in the winter time - I thrive on darkness and maybe the reason I love Dostoyevski's works. Thank you so much for your commitment to sharing your life in Russia - I will most certainly share this with friend here in Canada who want to know more even though I think I've told them everything there great about Russia - I look forward to watching more of your videos ))))) Stay safe

Oops. A few remarks. 1) geography cannot be changed, so whatever the weather, it is. Better to accept it than whining about something nobody can change. Adapting to whatever weather conditions is the key. Warm is not "better" than cold, and with the invention of electric light, even the darkest night can be turned into day. 2) same for the lack of mountains and oceans. It is called "geography", and one cannot change it. Enjoy what there is, and try not to miss what you don't have. E.g. pointless to miss palmtrees, sandy beaches or rainforests where it is impossible to have those. Buy a flight to these places a few times a year if you really miss it THAT badly. :) 3) Re what is cheap or expensive, it depends on one's wallet. Again, choosing perhaps one of the longest flights on the planet, from Moscow to Kamchatka (11 timezones), and complaining that it costs 400 euros, well, it costs whatever the market defines (supply and demand). At that price you can bet that enough people fill those planes, so it is definitely not "expensive", rather, it means that the speaker's income level is too low for those kinds of flights. This situation might be exactly the same elsewhere, nothing specific to Russia. :) 4) Takes time to get from A to B in a big city? Nothing special to Moscow or Russia. In every big city it takes the same long time to get from A to B, and the traffic jams are the same, too. It is not a downside of Moscow, it is a downside of every big city. By the way the Moscow public transportation is one of the best in the world, so comparatively speaking travel times are good on a world scale (my personal experience, too). 5) Regarding some teachers reading from books and giving boring lectures, it happens everywhere in the world, cannot be generalized. Solution: go to a better school. There are plenty of excellent schools in Russia, leave the boring schools and join those better ones. ;) Cheers, and I liked the 5 upsides of Moscow better, those were indeed unique to Moscow and I shared the same experience when I was there.

Russian professionals from High School of Economics in Moscow. These professionals speak fluent English and also they proficient in coding. I grew up in Russia and level of education in high school is so much higher that that in US. You just don't know what you are talking about.

I don't think transgenders are accepted in Russia in general. Most people are like "Well, that's sheit". I'm like that too, but with addition of "It's your life and stuff, so yeah, sure, you can do whatever you want to yourself. Just don't emphasize on it and don't try to spread it -or I'll hunt you down- " Can't understand transgenders. Same applies to LGBT and other things.
Well, maybe that was hard, but honestly.
I am from St. Petersburg, btw.

Well transgender people don’t feel like they’re the gender they were born with biologically so they change themselves and their identity to become another gender.
It’s not at all a bad or scary thing and it’s impossible to spread it.
Trust me transgenders would 100% be happiere if they weren’t trans. It’s not a choice.
They have gender dysphoria so they need to alter their bodies and change their names and pronouns in order to release that constant dysphoria. (Not all trans people decide to do it. But the majority does.)
Most Transmen buy binders to flatten their chests. They take hormone pills to grow hair and stop feminine puberty.
It’s so expensive and such a hassle trust me it isn’t a choice.
And to gay people. Well they’re just like straight people except they like their own gender instead. There is nothing else to it.
We’re all human and there is no shame to be different.
