- My thoughts on If It Bleeds by Stephen King 📖
The story If It Bleeds is a sequel to The Outsider, not a prequel! My mistake😅 the wrong word jumped out without me noticing 😂

11/22/63 one of my all time favorite SK books. A recent but absolutely great read for me. I've read the book twice and I saw the show on hulu.
His novels catches me. And what's even more amazing about Stephen king is that he's not slow at all in writing his upcoming novels.
He’s efficient for sure! I love that! 11/22/63 is a brilliant novel 😁 one of my favorites!
I agree! ☺️
Agree about kings short stories. Especially the collection with shawshank redemption. A personal favourite. Great review also. Can’t wait to buy it.
Thanks 😊 I haven’t read that collection yet, but it’s high up on my list 😁
Pet Sematary was my first King novel. I have read people have abandoned the book because it is too dark....For me it was the perfect introduction to this master writer. I always felt King could write about children perfectly. The four main characters in the Body are so well written you almost think they actually exist. I have been a fan since the eighties and when I visited the US (I am from England) I made the pilgrimage to Maine and because so many of his books are set there I felt I was coming home!!!. Great reviews btw. Kind regards.
Thank you 😊
King does have a way of really making the characters, especially children, come to life. Pet Sematary is a dark one for sure, but it's also brilliant and really shows his talent.
I would love to go to Maine one day. I feel like I know the place, even though I've never been.
All the best🌺
Thank you for the review. I’m a huge Stephen King fan and I always find it interesting when readers expect “horror” out of everything King writes. He writes suspense, supernatural, and fantasy, but people only think of horror so they are disappointed when they don’t get it. I personally loved this book.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment 💛
I agree! King does so well in other genres than horror. I think The Eyes of the Dragon is a really good example of how he masters the fantasy genre as well!
Always love hearing you talk about Stephen King! Definitely adding If it Bleeds to my TBR.
Thanks 😁Good thing I love talking about him! WIN-WIN 😝
I’m currently reading The Life of Chuck and it’s so good!
It’s brilliant!! Enjoy! 😁
Christina de Vries I actually just finished it a few minutes ago, started If It Bleeds now!
Hope you like it ☺️
Spoiler Alert:
Im still dwelling on The Life of Chuck, but the more I think about it I don't believe the world was ending at all. Just Chucks world. The one within his mind. That's just my interpretation but I think if the story was read chronologically it would be more apparent. And it would also explain the weird stuff going on in ActIII
I agree 😊 every person carry around their own universe😊
That’s an interesting theory. I had been trying to figure out the connection so I looked back at the authors notes but King didn’t say anything about this story.
If It Bleeds was my first Stephen King book I've ever read. Mr. Harrigan's Phone was definitely my favorite story and the characterization was my favorite aspect of it. For me, If It Bleeds didn't seem confusing at all even though I've never read The Outsider so I'm glad I was able to follow along without a lot of struggle.
That’s good to hear! The Outsider will give a bit more insight to the backstory, but it’s good to know that it wasn’t confusing without having read it ☺️ Mr. Harrigan’s Phone was such a brilliant story! I really enjoyed that one too😁
Almost done with Mr Harrigan's Phone. Really enjoying the book so far. Thanks for the tip with The Outside cause I had no idea and haven't read that book before
Thank you! Hope you enjoy the rest of the stories as well 😁
Interesting. In my UA-cam review I say the exact opposite, I love his longer works and tend to like his shorter works less.
That is interesting! I love many of his longer works as well though! ☺️
Just finished Mr. Harrigans phone. Absolutely loved it can’t wait to read the rest!
It’s so good! Hope you enjoy the rest of them just as much ☺️
Holly Gibney is one of my favorite SK characters, I am looking forward to reading If It Bleeds. Great review. 👍
Thank you ☺️ She’s one of my favorites too! Such a quirky and wonderful character!
Hey Christina, thanks for the breakdown...glad I found your channel. Cheers.
Thank you for watching and commenting 🌻 Glad you found your way to my little corner of the internet! See you around 🙂
Just read Life of Chuck today and loved it. Reminded me very much of an amazing but little-seen film called "Stay" (2005) with Ewan McGregor, Ryan Gosling, and Naomi Watts, written by Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff. One of my favorite scripts of all time. Check it out everyone!
Oooo! Haven't heard or seen that one, but now I definitely want to! 😁
Rat was my favourite story. As a writer... I found it fascinating.
I read this as one of my first Stephen King. Definitely a bit confused without reading The Outsider but I got a hang of the gist.
I love it when King writes about writers!
Will you pick up more King books after this one? 😊
Prequel? Everywhere Ive read about the book they all say If It Bleeds is a sequel to the Outsider, not a prequel...
You’re absolutely right! My mistake. Sometimes the wrong words jump out without me noticing 😅
Greetings!!! I can not wait to read this one---really enjoyed your info about the book....this is going to be a run ride!!!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment 😊 Enjoy the ride!
I normally really like Stephen King, but there are so many of his books I haven't read.
By the way, did you know you can borrow free audio and ebooks from your local library? The Libby app for English and Allbok for Norwegian. 😊
There’s still a lot of them I haven’t read as well! That man’s list of published work is insanely impressive 🙈 no, I didn’t know that! I’ll have to look into it 😁 thanks for the tip!
@@ChristinadeVries I have read the Mr Mercedes trilogy, so I guess I need to read The Outsider now! Can't wait for the library to open again!
Do it! Do it! Do it! 😁
@@ChristinadeVries My library has it! 🥳
I heard you will enjoy this book more if you read the outsider , but what if you watched it instead is that enough or is the book way different ? Thanks David !
I haven’t watched The Outsider yet so unfortunately I’m not sure how similar/different it is from the book yet 🙈 I need to get around to watching it soon though. But I would think that watching it before reading If It Bleeds will at least give you quite a bit more of backstory of the characters ☺️
I want to start reading stephen king books. But i don’t know what to start with so any recommendations? (I’ve seen the shinning and IT movies. so i don’t think there’s a point of reading them)
I would highly recommend Misery, Bag of Bones, Gerald's Game, Firestarter, Cujo and Pet Sematary 😊All are great stories and a good place to start! Happy Reading 😁
Christina de Vries ty, and i will 😊
My favorite is “The Talisman” & “It”
Haven’t read “The Talisman” yet, but I do own a copy and hope to get to it soon 😁
Christina de Vries I won’t spoil it, but that book is packed with juicy Stephen king goodness....it has a sequel as well, Black House
Another great review Christina... Thank you again :D
Thank you 😁
Thank you, I am so happy that there is finally a positive review on If it bleeds. You mentioned audible, but in the meantime there is also the whole audiobook on youtube in two parts.
Kind of don't enjoy that that Trump business, but I think everyone is entitled to an opinion.
Just a question. You mentioned If it bleeds to be a prequel (ed. in the meantime I understand it to be a sequel) to the Outsider (which I actually read). Is it also necessary to first read the Hodges trilogy? I kind of looking forward to read If it Bleeds. Maybe it will indeed be better to read first Mr Mercedes etc? Please let me know.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment ☺️ If It Bleeds is a sequel, not a prequel. My brain messed up, because sometimes words are tricky thing and they come out wrong without me noticing 😅 I don’t think you necessarily need to read the Mr. Mercedes trilogy before you read The Outsider, but you will probably get a deeper connection to Holly as a character if you do ☺️
I am new to Stephen King's book. I read only The Pet Sematary, The shining but did not really find interesting except the Pet Sematary. I tried Salem's lot then I gave up reading its long. What book should I read in order to touch this book? You mentioned a lot of characters from different books seem like a lot of books I need to read in order to read this one. Trying to like his books. :)
The only book you “need” to read before If It Bleeds is The Outsider. You could read the Mr. Mercedes trilogy to really get to know the main character in If It Bleeds, but I don’t think you need to. If you’re on the look for King books to read in general when starting out I would recommend Firestarter, Gerald’s Game, Bag of Bones or Cujo ☺️ hope this helps 😁 Happy Reading!
If you like King of the 80s, then you might like BLACK MOUNTAIN by Viktor Wolfe. :)
If you're interested, I'll send you a free hardback if you'll do a review on your channel.
Thanks for the tip 😁 noted!
Send me an email on christina@devries.no and tell me a little bit more about it 😊
@@ChristinadeVries watch the 2 reviews of it on UA-cam. Just type in Black Mountain book review. That should give you a good idea of whether you'd like to read it or not. :)
What is ur favorite king's short story? I really want to know..
Ooo! That’s a tough question. I think the stories that have just stuck with me the most over the years are The Lawnmower Man and Graveyard Shift ☺️
Graveyard shift and Survivor type... are my two favorite short stories of stephen king.
Do I need to read the outsider first ? Thanks
I would recommend reading The Outsider first, yes 😊
@@ChristinadeVries thanks I’m reading it haha
Happy Reading!!
I liked The Rat best, followed by the first and second stories. But I couldn't even get through the title story, If It Bleeds. I'm not sure if I just wasn't up for such unsettling present day themes or if I just found that lady completely off-putting...but I moved on after just a dozen or so pages.
Oh well, 3 out 4 ain't bad!
3 out of 4 isn't bad at all!! And we’re all different and we like different things, which is so wonderful! I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed as much as you did of the stories 😁
I'm a huge King fan, but this one fell a bit short for me. I loved the first story, Mr Harrigans phone, that was an instant classic, thoroughly amazing classic King. It was all downhill from there.I hated Life of Chuck so much it shocked me. I actually consider this one of the worst pieces he's ever written. If it Bleeds was boring, I'm very over Holly and the Mr Mercedes cast. Rat was okay, but only okay. And as a cat lover i was disappointed the cover featured one, but there were none in the book itself. Really loved Mr Harrigans phone though.
Sorry to hear that. But I think that’s what’s so interesting about literature; we all experience it differently and in our own way😊
I still don't know how I feel about this collection. I do like it but I want to love it. I think I need to come in with no expectations to get more out of them. I loved If It Bleeds. Mr. Harrigans Phone was okay. I don't understand The Life of Chuck. At least how the apocalypse connects with the last two parts. Was it a fictional sketch? I still need to read Rat. I don't enjoy his political jabs but that doesn't dissuade from his work. His stories are too good. Thanks.
The Life of Chuck will make more sense after you’ve read the author’s afterwords if you feel confused about it☺️ Hope you enjoy Rat! Happy reading! 📖
@@ChristinadeVries Listening to it right now and enjoying it! It's feels faster paced compared to the others, which I like. Thanks for the reply!
Would love to hear what you think of it when you're done ☺️

ACT III: THANKS CHUCK! Was basically the world inside chuck’s mind before he passed away. When the stars went out and everything went dark, that’s when Chuck died. The chunk of California breaking off was a sign of Chuck slowly dying, and the 39 Great Years, Thanks Chuck! was (and I believe, I could be totally wrong) was Doug’s voice saying ‘39 Great years, thanks chuck,” before Chuck himself passed away. OR, it could be Chuck saying thank you to himself knowing that he was going to die in 39 years. ACT I was basically Chuck finding out he was going to die in that room upstairs, when he saw his future self laying on the hospital bed as a younger child. And ACT II was Chuck living the best of his life, which is why he danced in the middle of the street and danced as a younger child (moon walk dance in ACT I). I believe Marty in ACT III during the apocalyptic pandemic represented Chuck himself. But all the apocalyptic events in ACT III didn’t occur in the real world, it was just Chuck’s mind.
Very nice review..have u got ur copy by now ? I ordered this book too..I am also a huge fan of Stephen king...
Thank you😊 I still don’t have my copy. Actually got an email from Bookdepository a couple of days ago telling me I would be refunded because they can’t deliver the book. So I guess I’ll have to get it from somewhere else 😕
I uave been reading his stuff since the 80s, i have loved him for years. But all his recent work is just his old stories reworked.
I’m sorry to hear that you feel that way 😕 hope you’re still able to appreciate his writing style and storytelling even so.
I hope I love this book
I hope so too ☺️
I got the audible I haven’t got my ebook yet
The audiobook version of it is really good! Enjoy 😁

Spoiler warning:
I finished reading this collection earlier this evening and am really impressed. "Life of Chuck" is such a refreshing take on the doomsday genre.
I'm confused about some of the symbolism and metaphors in "The Rat." What was the significance of the toys and why did we go so much stuff about Drew's sickness when it really didn't amount to anything?
If it has trump jabs, I'm in. I loved them in The Institute.
Me too! 😁
Great review! New subbie here...
Thank you 🌻 Welcome to my little corner of UA-cam, and thank you so much for subscribing 😁☀️
❤❤
türkiyede yook :(
Unfortunately, I don't speak Turkish🙈
He lost me when he added trump. Dam. I wish he would have just not added that.
Trump 2020!!!! MAGA!!!!
I was going to subscribe until you said you enjoy his jabs at President Trump. 👎
That’s totally fine. I respect your decision and I hope you respect my point of view as well. Stay safe!
@@ChristinadeVries I believe you are taking what Obi Wan Kenobi would call "the high ground".
Christina de Vries It’s okay, you’re awesome and that’s all that matters.
Thank you ☺️🌻
I listened to it on audible and honestly if Will Patton read the ingredients label to my moisturizer I would be sold. Stephen King is like my crack if I was a drug user and I agree I am biased when I read a Stephen King book even the books I don’t love I can appreciate. Love his style.
Will Patton is amazing! Absolutely love his voice😊
Same here! I always appreciate his books even the stories that don't end up being my favorite😊
