    Yess!! I became an even bigger fan after reading that she was delivering pizzas to make it. She said she didn't have furniture just had crates for a table. Just the perseverance!~ :D I think we should totally look at their whole stories not just the results on the podium to fully appreciate the sport!

    I remember cheering like hell for her during this olympics. Her story was a truly incredible one filled with determination, persistence, and never giving up on your dream. It's too bad the code of points sucked so bad during this quadrennium on floor in particular, she should have honestly in my opinion won at least a bronze in the event final on floor.

      She was never going to win a medal on FX, her routine was designed to only have 9.9 SV. Under that COP you had to have 10.0 SV to be competitive. She only had 3 tumbling runs whereas to be competitive she really needed 4.
      There was also nothing inherently wrong with this COP, it actually rewarded big tumbling. Moreno and Dos Santos both had big tumbling akin to what is done today so they didn't need to rely on risky dance elements so much. It's just unfortunate that Dos Santos had a disastrous error in the EF while Moreno had minor ones. Ponor's routine just ticked all the right boxes despite her suspect tumbling form.

    Why don't we see more of those rebounding skills like in her first pass? I love those!

    This score represented a lot of what was wrong with the old scoring system. This should NOT have been a 9.7 start value. It’s a farce that they didn’t credit some of her leaps and jumps but did for others. It’s also ridiculous that someone with absolutely the sloppiest tumbling form I’d ever seen could win- because of leaps and jumps. Nowadays it’s a focus on all that combined.

    Starting from only a 9.9 SV, that Popa-double tuck jump was crucial and by being short on the double tuck jump, she lost 0.2 in SV (0.1 for D dance element and 0.1 for combo with C dance element). Most of her leaps and jumps were low amplitude and the landings were always unsure. Couple with some slightly short and chest down landings on her tumbling runs, she could only hit 9.500-9.550 at best had she gotten her 9.900 SV. Still a good score though for this quad where everyone was transitioning to the highly scrutinized execution deduction heavy judging gymnasts these days are trained for.

      I've often wondered if there were more practical leap and jump combinations for her to do to earn bonus. This was such a difficult code of points especially on floor

      Your soooo lucky! I have a little one 8 months old but when she gets around 3-4 would love to come to your guys gym to have her experience there. Where are you guys located at and will be willing to travel all the way. I was once a junior Olympian trainee myself and want to keep it down the line.

    she had problems on all her jumps , she was not credited the ogean and duble turn to double tuck jump, so I think her start value was only 9.7. which explaines her score

    • @saragrant9749
      @saragrant9749 8 місяців тому +1

      Which was ridiculous because there were others with similar issues that did receive credit for even worse leap form. This code was a joke, and the exact reason they did away with it.

    • @poshbo

      @@saragrant9749her score was quite fair. If you watch the video in slow motion you'll see she was way short in the double twisting tuck jump by at least a 1/2 twist so she lost 0.2 off her SV. Ponor's version was somewhat suspect but she was at least 1.75 of the way round so with some choreo she covered it up. Ban's version was also short in TF and it was not credited.
      What was unforgiving about this COP was that if you were credited with a D skill then you got 0.1 in bonus points, if you didn't get credited then you got nothing so your SV suffered. Whereas with today's COP, even if a D skill is downgraded to C, you can still count the C so it's worth something to your DV.

      The Gogeon was credited, it was just the double tuck jump (D) that was not credited. Because she performed the latter in combination, she relied on it getting 0.1 base value plus 0.1 CV, hence she lost 0.2. She had the same issue in EF and am almost identical score

      @@poshbo I’m not saying HER score wasn’t fair- I’m saying OTHERS were not, given their similar issues. The judges were extremely strict on pretty much every athlete except a small select few. No shocker which country they came from.

      Neither did several other athletes who WERE credited with them.

    • @poshbo
      @poshbo 3 місяці тому

      I guess if she had better amplitude then she would have had a better chance of getting her double twisting tuck jump all the way around. Unfortunately she only got 1.5 twists around so it was never going to be credited. Her routine composition was problematic for this COP

    • @poshbo
      @poshbo 3 місяці тому

      @@saragrant9749 the key is she didn't get the double twist all the way around to get it credited. If she did get it around and had it credited, then the lack of amplitude would be at most a minor execution deduction. But not getting the element credited was almost fatal under this COP
