Cheng Fei was too good for the 2001-2004 era. Powerful tumbling, elegant choreo and moves, absolutely clean, pointed toes, legs locked together. None of these was valued back then.
Probably my favorite floor routine ever. Proof that you don't have to be a "ballerina" to be artistic. It's about performance! That's what so many girls are missing today. With the 10 scoring system (and compulsories), you had to actually work to be perfect in all aspects. Now girls can just ride their difficulty scores and almost neglect the performance and artistry. LOVE this performance so much. What a wonderful combination of artistry and power. :)
My favorite floor from China next would be Mo floor from 95 worlds . But this one is even better bc beautiful cherography and Cheng is a amazing performer she accents all the details in her cherography and music surf flicks of her hands. Head the reach of her arms. You cant teach that it comes from within ..
Awesome! It's too bad that she lacked consistency on this event. Not to say that she didn't do well most of the time, but her results over the years reflect that she was either close to perfection (like here) or she would have a major mistake that would take her out of the medals (e.g. 2004 Olympics Floor EF, 2007 Worlds Floor EF, 2008 Olympics Floor EF). This is without a doubt one of my all time favorite Floor routines. There isn't anybody who has her combination of truly elegant dance (DANCING, not cleverly disguised POSING and/or ARM MOVEMENTS) and tumbling (Simone Biles is the greatest female tumbler ever, but she cannot dance like this). Every movement here is done utilizing every part of her body, as well as that intangible quality of the IT factor that simply CANNOT BE TAUGHT. You either have IT or you don't. Cheng Fei had IT!
It was really all about doing clean dance elements in this cop, Ponor had the cleanest. The worst CoP of all time, but following the rules back then Ponor was the clear winner.
@@vitorhugosantana7053if you TRULY believe Ponor had the cleaner dance elements idek what else to tell you 💀 there’s no possible way Ponor was cleaner than this. absolutely no way.
@@Victor-ch6xp That is a .1 deduction. Cheng Fei almost always has a low chest and a step out of her triple twist. I have never seen her stick a triple twist. Sandra stuck her triple in the 2008 floor event final.
Ponor was only the best in her dance elements, which was all that idiotic code cared about. Her tumbling was atrocious in execution. You’ll notice in the open ended system she got annihilated in execution.
By that code especially. It only cared about dance elegance while completely ignoring tumbling form. She had gorgeous technique on tumbling but a couple of little issues on leap combinations. Those shouldn’t have cost her as much as they did but the judges were forced by that system to hammer her. Once the open system came about she was a world floor champion (twice) while Ponor got bombed in execution.
Cheng should not have won lol. at her best sure, but with only a 9.9 sv and out of bounds, she was already starting .2 below Catalina, leaving room for effectively nowadays .4 in deductions. the scoring was fair
@@connormccool9310 I think people are just mad about how unfair gymnastics gods can be. Nobody thinks Fei should have won with her actual performance but we all know Ponor would have won even if Fei hit her routine like she did here and that's utterly ridiculous. Both had a 10.00 SV at their best but Ponor's hideous form was not punished enough nor was Fei's superior difficulty and much cleaner form rewarded properly.
I also think it's too low- but this is team finals, no individual medals up for grabs. She had a bit of a low landing on her opening pass and tiny adjustments on most of her landings which I suppose add up- but this is just gloious and deserved higher. Considering the gifts they were giving Khorkina...
Gifts to more than a few unfortunately. Just look at the floor final, won with the worst tumbling form I’ve ever seen but completed dance combos. That system was a farce.
Ponor may have won the gold due to Fei's mistakes in the EF and due to that stupid code of points over valuing those stupid dance leaps, but everyone knows this was the FX of these games.
This girl and the girl from Spain should've both finished ahead of ponor In the fx EF . Love ponor but her form was horrible on fx and should not have been given the gold on floor
It's not just China that needs an athlete like her, the sport needs it too!!
this deserved more than a 9.662. such elegance combined with difficult tumbling!
Best performance since Podkopayeva, now that is a HUGE compliment.
Miss her so much! China really needs athletes like Cheng Fei.
She already had all the difficulty and execution back then! I've seen many gymnasts with great difficulty but no one matches her form

They were really lenient on her triple spin, Popa and Gogean in Athens.
not in event finals lol@@turbojon8117

This post is still so relevant!
What are you talking about? She has balletic line and is using Don Quixote as her music 😆 this is very balletic.
THE JUDGE'S SMILE AT 1.17 OMG ❤️
Just a masterpiece.
I still come back to this routine, she really was one of a kind
Such amazingly beautiful routine and music.. Hard to find a gymnast who performs like a graceful ballerina like Cheng Fei anymore
I never get tired of watching this.
that deserves a gold medal imo
Awwwww she was so Little!!
I really miss this Chinese Style
The best floor routine from OG 2004. Sensational Cheng 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It’s absolutely amazing performance. Art and technique perfect combination.
That Trippe twist was Perfect !
gotta love when dance and choreography work together! not to mention amazing tumbling

she's amazing. easily my favourite chinese gymnast of all time.
it's too good I'm gonna cry
The most beautiful routine of those Olympics games,.., she deserved at least silver.
9.662 for this marvelous and almost flawless routine, and 9.750 for Ponor who had all the bad forms you can imagine in a single routine?

I cant believe it too

2:25 Honestly the only perfectly executed triple twist I've ever seen!!
One of my favorite skills to watch on floor! I like Pavlovas from 08 AA and Alicia Sacramones in 2005!
You should check the triple twists of Henrietta Onodi in the 1992 Olympics.
Landings are a part of execution. It wasn’t perfect. Sandra Izabasa’s 2008 triple twist was better than this one.

A star. Brings tears to my eyes :')
Is this performance of Cheng Fei matches that of Nadia Comaneci? Coz this is really a fabulous routine and flawless
The greatest floor of all time!
i haven't seen anyone who beats her form
She was so spectacular, sigh
She was the best in that final. Her twisting form is the best ever, and not a single medal, very unfair.
now THAT is how you perform a floor routine.
Chinese gymnasts are Amazing athletes.
Such beautiful choreography
One of the sport’s true characters!
the chinese were so underscored this entire games
Back to this video and still can't stop watching. Hope cheng is doing ok
I agree that Ponor was the best in the final but this routine in the team final deserved more than 9.700.
Ponor was only the best in her dance elements, which was all that idiotic code cared about. Her tumbling was atrocious in execution. You’ll notice in the open ended system she got annihilated in execution.
Minkus: Don Quixote. Cheng Fei is actually giving nods to the traditional Petipa gestures here. its charming. She should have kept this program in 08
simply beautiful, thank you Cheng fei
China needs to have athletes like her- gymnasts with two specialties and are really good at both of 'em.
oh baby fei
Obra de arte 🙌🏻❤️👑👏🏻

like the last properly classical routine 😭 i miss this gymnastics so much
"just a single twist in the double pike". JUST a single twist?!??!
Sophia Lynch she said it because she had already done a double twisting double back.
AMAZING OH MY GOD
I would have given this at least a 9.7
How was that a 9.662? I would have given it quite a bit higher.
This was so amazing...it's sad to say that she never danced like that again :(
Her 2008 team final floor performance was fucking fantastic
Don Quixote music!!!!
Loli Fei, so cute~lol
I thought this was a champion-worthy routine?
Where can I watch the event finals of this one?
Its online. But you'll punch your screen when you see who won.

Don Quixote: Act III: Variation of Basil and Don Quixote: Act I: No.21 Variation of Kitri. :)
How old is she
So she was 16 here?
Si elle avait effectué comme ça pour l'EF, elle pourrait gagner une médaille. Mais elle avait des petits fautes là.
Ponor was clean in the final FX event.
Not if you don't count her hideous form as "clean".
Clean? Only on dance and even that’s up for debate. Her tumbling form was the worst I’ve seen- ever.
