  • My club, the Greater Seattle Aquarium Society, is hosting an auction for plants and fish, let's walk through what I'm taking, how I prepare plants and get a little look into several of my fish tanks.

I was one of the backroom workers for GSLAS's march auction. Please don't use ziplock bags for fish. 3 separate people have to handle your ziplock bag, (auctioneer, recorder and a steward or two). That's at least 3 times where your haphazard seal is getting jiggled around, plus you've got a fish in there that's going to start panicking. There were a bunch of ziplocks with fish that started a slow drip once we got them into the paper grocery sacks we were using to group winning bidders items. Which ruined the grocery sack's bottom and made it kind of risky to lift once it was time for that bidder to claim their items. We were constantly trying to reseal ziplocks we noticed leaking, but there were some that were slow enough that we didn't find the leak until auction's end. Some people had to drive home very quickly to get those fish back into reasonable amounts of water.
Bottom line, if your fish is rare or expensive enough to demand top dollar, please treat it as such and spring for decent bags. If your club has to handle your item like it's a live grenade, maybe rethink how you're doing things.

The only thing i don't have that you're offering is the hair algae. 😂

Plants are ok in Ziploc bags, but our San Diego club had to prohibit people bringing fish in Ziploc bags because... they leak.
I would be all over any of the Crypts you're bringing to the auction!! Also on my bucket list is that needle leaf Java Fern. I have regular leaf, 'Trident' and 'Windelov' but I have never seen narrow or needle leaf for sale at our local shops or club auctions. But Java Fern isn't really happy in my water. Crypts do great, hair grass and most stem plants are fine, but Java Fern just struggles and never looks great. 😢
My main complaint w/ auctions is people not properly identifying fish they put up. 😮‍💨 I've recently acquired 3 different dwarf Rasbora species that were totally misidentified.

Yep, absolutely would prefer not doing fish in Ziploc, typically we recommend double bagging fish

Would enjoy seeing moss ledges for shrimp tanks and things like that. 3d printed ledges of Anubias, buce, even ferns really helps out people with 29G tanks or larger that struggle with the verticality.
I would like to see, at a local auction, Ludwigia, hygrophilia, and staurogyne species.

Hey Bently, hope you're doing great!
This morning, I added two pumps of Easy Green to my tank, but my nitrate and phosphate readings are both zero. There aren't many fish in this tank, but there are a lot of shrimp-around 50 shrimp and 10 berried females. Should I increase the dosage?
I'm using RO water, Salty Shrimp Minerals, and I fertilize with 1 mL of Easy Green and 6 mL of potassium every other day.

Make sure you wait about a day between tests. Sometimes it takes a little while for it to show up on the test.

Step one : break open the piggy bank
Step two : tell your partner you will be back

I've always wanted limnophila sessiliflora. I would spy in European videos, but sadly, it's illegal in America
