what makes Artoria's back story so tragic is the fact that like all good tragedies, the fault that led to her to her downfall would be and WAS a huge quality in other situations, her cold and detached logic saved the kingdom many times but that perceived "detachment" was also what lead some people to resent her.
@@MrInuhanyou123 When you're the king your own subjects will criticize you regardless of how you run the kingdom. It's their right to voice their discontent. It's also a matter of her assuming that that's what people wanted of her but they wanted a king they could relate to as well. Tristan points out that the king doesn't understand his people which is true. While Lancelot says that she was the best king ever. The problem was that she kept blaming herself for the downfall of her kingdom instead of moving on.
@@nottomiokagiyu9830 Less that she doesn’t understand and more that she was brought up and trained to be a certain way. Tristan himself says that he deeply regrets saying that to her and that the failing was his - same for Lancelot who wanted her retribution for his failing.
Saber didn’t rule with emotion or desire, she ruled with logic as calculus. She was fair, objective and just but cold. She did what was right logically but didn’t take into account other peoples feelings when she did them. Look at the example with Mordred, what she said to her wasn’t wrong Mordred wasn’t King material. However Mordred had convinced herself (along with Morgan) that she was the true heir, that she was Arthuria’s legit child and if she proved herself Arthuria would give her the Kingship, see her as worthy and not some weird possible rape/magic abomination baby and show that she loved Mordred. These were all the delusions and narratives Mordred got into her own head. To Saber however none of that came into factor when denying Mordred. For saber it was simply a blunt “No, you aren’t right for the job.” Mordred took it as rejection of everything she was and everything she did as a knight up until that point.
Saber was the perfect King and everyday Camelot survived another day was due to her willpower and leadership. Unfortunately human flaws, greed and emotion caused them to reject their perfect ruler.

What people always forgot about Artoria, about her damn legend and story, is that she is a king in a time of crisis, everything she do is for the greater good because desperate times calls for desperate means, her people, her knights may hate her for this, which is justifiable, but what Tristan said "the king does not understand the heart of man!" (I am paraphrasing) really pushed my buttons because he, though justified to say that, doesn't appreciate what Artoria have sacrificed for the sake of Britain.

It’s because she already did everything for the greater good, Iskandar saying that she “followed her pretty little ideals to the end” that her nation was ruined. Yeah it once saved Britain but it also doomed it. Artoria’s failure to understand her knights caused them to fall. It caused Tristan to leave. She shouldered all the blame which led Lancelot to being unpunished and go insane while she couldn’t empathize with Gawain so Gawain stubbornly refused Lancelot’s help during Camlann. Finally Artoria refused to recognize Mordred when Mordred just wanted to be recognized by her father. They all appreciated King Arthur’s ideals that saved Britain but here it caused it’s downfall
I know Ufotable respects Deen's adaption of the fate route, hence why there's no plan of of redoing it, but I hope they change their minds one day and give us that sweet sweet Avalon scene at the end. And then, I can finally rest in peace.
Well Deen also animated UBW before Ufotable so did ufo somehow forgot to respect Deen's adaptation

Ufotable really needs to remake the Fate route. I need them to canonize Realta Nua so I can die knowing that Shiro traveled an infinite plane to free the girl shackled by her crown.
Even a paradise can be hell when an eternity separates you from your true love. All the beauty in this universe can't quell the loneliness and heartbreak of separation; I'd like to think Avalon made an exception for Shiro to enter as it was said to be inaccessible to mortals but it couldn't call itself a paradise if the only mortal soul inhabitng it felt disconnected from the separation of her lover.
@@MrInuhanyou123 it's hardly ever mentioned. Ufotable made 3 movies for Heaven's Feel, and a whole season for UBW, but the original fate route was animated by someone else, received poorly, and Realta Nua only shows up in the PSP version of Fate/Stay night as far as I'm aware.
Just want more representation for what I believe to the the best ending to the Fate franchise that's never been animated.
@@MrInuhanyou123 it doesn't feel canon. It's literally the most obscure ending that hasn't ever seen an anime adaptation. I get it's in the manga and VN, but the anime far outweigh eithers exposure... people need to know about the best ending.

@@MrInuhanyou123 normally I'd agree with the traditional definition, but I make an exception here bc the media and spinoffs that surround the fate series seem to me to have more in common with the animated material rather than the VN or manga. They'll pull characters from the lore to make into a waifu in GO but that's the furthest extent I've seen anyone delving into the source material that isn't a game or an Illya spinoff.

This is more of my preference when it comes to characters than actual story writing when i say i like her more.
But in the series it would make sense for her to be so one dimensional, no one there was like Shirou to make her open up to them. Kiritsugu in the most part dint care about her wish, Maiya was too broken (as a character not power) to care, and Iri )although with her most of the time) dint talk or ask about Artoria's past too much like Shirou did.
13:35 thanks to Merlin's help and God I'm still hoping for Fate Stay Night remake with proper ending. Funny cuz Ufotable did animate Shirou and Saber's reunion in Avalon in Fate/SN event last year

@@zacharyhood1651 Gaia's contracts needs to be done before the person dies (ex: Shirou did his pact with Gaia, received a power boost, and once he died he became a counter guardian. Okita Alter is an Okita Souji from an alternate timeline that through her sister's prayers was turned into a Counter Guardian after she died in her birth so she could have a "new life"). The point is that Gaia fulfills a wish and then the payment is that the person turns into a Guardian after death.
The counter force doesn't just turn Heroic Spirits into Counter Guardians, the Counter Force CAN summon servants to work for it as a guardian, but there is a huge difference between an Heroic Spirit working for the Counter Force for a specific purpose and a real Counter Guardian that is a literal slave of the world.
That's why Gaia didn't let her die, if it did she would just become a regular heroic spirit, but if she wins a grail as a living servant THEN Gaia would finally let her die and she would become the "Counter Guardian King Arthur", a forever slave of the world.

@@MrInuhanyou123 true, I honestly think zero did the best they could to expand on her character, the fate route was made to be pretty self-contained but they manage to find something that could legitimately expand her character and made sense in the lore, it's not necessary to understand the story but it's very cool seeing what made her hate herself so much that she wants to use what she thinks is an omnipotent wish making machine to put someone else on the throne as opposed to just fixing the mistake and getting a second chance (something that I originally wondered when reading the anime an vn first)
and about the small discrepancies between zero and stay/night thankfully the anime adaptations by ufotable add some things to make the two stories more connected, which is another reason they should adapt the fate route

Oh yes the mascot, the OG waifu and the birth of MANY different versions of her, Artoria is a character who has a lot going on but all in all, she is still a cool character........That being said, DAMN I know why my one friend likes Big boobed Artoria, I like Prototype Arthur, Prototype Merlin but not like main Merlin and everytime I hear the name Artorius, I will always think about the Dark Souls one and the Tales of Berseria one lol. yeah, that's arguably the original "artoria" aka arthur, his noble phantasm is basically a nuke while artoria's just a missle.

Prototype Arthur, as the name suggests, comes from what FSN was originally going to be. An otome game starring a normal high school girl as king Arthur’s master (Imagine Shirou and Saber, but genderswapped).
They were afraid of it being unpopular so they changed it into what we have today. Not much is known about Ayaka (the female protagonist of Fate prototype). But here’s what we have on proto Arthur.
His Excalibur has 13 seals placed by every knight of the round table. This is to restrict his power, because a full powered proto Excalibur is f**king broken. To unleash a seal, a certain condition must be fulfilled. And this is why in fgo, when proto Arthur uses his np, you can hear proto Merlin saying the names of the RTK.
His personality differs a lot from Artoria’s, Artoria is more stoic and Arthur is the typical charming white knight. So charming in fact, that his version of Mordred went full on Yandere on him that he destroyed Camelot, not because proto Arthur refused to give him the throne, but because proto Mordred wanted Arthur all for himself.
He also had an alter form just like Artoria, and that went on to inspire the current version of Gilgamesh. An egotistical self-centered jerk that calls everyone mongrels. But that idea never came into fruition.
And yeah, that’s basically all I know about him. There’s probably information about Ayaka that I missed, but meh, I did my best.

the digital edition is pretty easily available and you can get it on the Microsoft store, you can rent it for 5 dollars and buy it permanently for 15 dollars
if you want the physical edition the blue-ray was also made available recently (although it is considerably more expensive being 40 dollars), I can't link you to the external site that sells them on youtube but if you are interested then the trailer from aniplex for the official release of the blue-ray has the site that officially sells them in the description (if you want to look at the video's description than the name of the video is "Fate/stay night [Heaven's Feel] THE MOVIE III. spring song Blu-ray Release Trailer")
and if the official releases aren't available in your country I personally think it's morally okay for you to pirate it, you can watch the movie in high quality on gogoanime for example

How it went in the Camelot Singurality: The above statement, but Bedi refuses to do his King's last request and spends centuries as a(n immortal) wanderer, wherein his action (or rather inaction) led Artoria to become the Goddess Rhongomyniad and enact her plans.

I wish Zero didn't weaken Artoria's power and make her regret her whole life. I feel Gen Urobuchi really favored Gilgamesh as he made him seem like the only true king.
CasGil is a true king, but not Archer Gil. That’s my problem with Zero. Both Archer Gil and Alex bashed on Artoria but both of them were pretty shit as well. Alex focused on conquering and died at a young age. He didn’t even have enough time to prove his competency as a ruler. I feel like the author of Zero really hate Artoria for some reasons.

Honestly, Bbylonia for me showed why Gil was a WAYYYY better king than Saber.
tbf tho... not really? They were in two completely different circumstances and both worked just as hard. Gil would have never been able hold Camelot together with his attitude(and it can't be forgotten he only became a good king later on in life) and it's debatable if Arturia could have held out Babylon long enough for Chaldea to show up
@@darknessknows1235 I disagree, Babylonia was facing annihilation and Gil told his people directly that they would all die and nothing could stop it. Yet, they all still remained loyal and were ready to doe with him (notice how no one even considered joining Tiamat for a chance at a new life). Saber? Her people started to despise her for the logical action of taking some resources (Sabet had really bad PR lol)
Also unlike Saber, Gilgamesh has shown a perfect understanding of human hearts as well as his own feelings. He would never have treated Mordred the way Artoria did not would he have let the whole Lancelot situation get out of hand that way it did.
@@JoshuaDMarti I agree with your point about Morgan being the mastermind, but honestly Gilgamesh (the older version from Grand/Order) would never have fallen for any of her schemes. He would have explained to Mordred from the beginning what the problem was (rather than give some half assed, infuriating answer that is sure to sow resentment between him and the ONLY other person that could dethrone him).
Lancelot was enraged and only acted like that because Artoria could not read the room and punish him instead (or at least punished him and Guinevere together) Lancelot explained this in Fate/Zero.
Gil would have seen through Agravain quite quickly
He could actually inspire a deeper sense of loyalty in his people than Saber, Grand Order being my case in point. So widespread dissatisfaction with his rule would be highly unlikely.
And lastly, there's no way he would have casually left Mordred (again the one person with the right to actually challenge you and resents you) in charge of the kingdom while away.
I like Artoria, but there's a reason Iskander, Gilgamesh, and even Richard the Lionheart disagree with her way of kingship.
Gilgamesh's title as the First King is not just for show. It took a primordial deity to end his kingdom, not some petty rebellion.

One thing I don't understand. If Artoria is so awesome, why does she need magic to be strong? In the novel it is said that she couldn't win the baseball match because without magic, she was even weaker than Rin.
Think that has to do with her being a heroic spirit. She needs magic to maintain her physical form and prowess; the lack of it will make them weak, and I believe it was a recurring issue because Shiro was still a novice wizard.
In fate series she is not alive exactly and was summoned as a heroic spirit to fight in the 4th and 5th holy grail war to maintain her form she needed a supply of magic that shirou could not supply to keep her at full strength
1. The baseball match is more because she keeps swing her bat like a sword instead of, you know, an actual bat. It’s already impressive enough that she actually managed to hit those balls with that swinging technique.
2. Artoria’s strength comes from a magical ability called mana burst, she gathers high amounts of energy and release it in one fell swoop. She’s not strong because muscle, no, she’s strong because magic.
3. Even though she has less strength without using mana bursts, Artoria is still a servant. And a pretty high classed one at that. The weakest possible servant with E rank on all of their stats is 10 times stronger then an average human. In her weakest form, with Shirou as her master, she’s strength rank C. 30 times stronger then an average human.
