Building My Dream Desk

- Join me as I build my dream desk. I did my best to pull out all the stops on this project. It's hiding a lot of features including a water-cooled video editing (and gaming) PC mounted in a vertical drawer. The desk is made from solid walnut with waterfall ends on both sides. The drawer fronts are also solid walnut with integrated door pulls, making for a super clean look.

Awesome build Zac! Some great tips in there....making repeatable cuts, marking the drawer fronts, setting the slides....well done!
Thanks Chris! I do my best to keep things as informative as possible. Believe it or not, there were a lot of tips that ended up on the cutting room floor. I think this video was 2 hours long after the first rough cut! haha
@@ZacBuilds holy cow! That's a lot of footage
@@ZacBuilds Please do a "deleted scenes" with more advice, terrific video!
Carrey nice😂
Forget the desk, that chair is beeeaauutiful...
the desk is literally the whole point of the video
all about the chair has an EAMES vibe to it !!
but where do i get one like this, or did he made the chair himself, and if so how?
@@Nardrajl92 I’d like to know too lol
i think this is the one www.eurway.com/concord-office-chair
Im just getting into woodworking and I really appreciate the care you took to make this. Its so neat and clean!
Thank you! It was definitely a labor of love 😀
How do you only have 45K subs? this channel deserves 10x this. This build is awesome!
Almost there with the subs count
The screens not being level kinda stole my concentration for a bit, but the rest of the time I was all into this great build!
Much better than all those look-a-like Ikea setup,Ikea is fine for most folks, but nothing like individuality in your own desk pc setup.
Thanks! I've had a lot of Ikea desks in my day, and there's nothing wrong with them, but I really wanted to challenge myself on this one and do something different. I spend so much time at this desk, it's worth it to really set it up just the way I want. Cheers!
Nice desk man. Its nice to find a diy're on youtube whose into woodworking and computers. Will have to check out more of your projects.
Very nice, reminds me of old audio/video cabinets that were used for TV, radio, stereo combos.
Ya I very much wanted it to have a slightly retro feel with that air intake cut out!
So far this is the best quality build i have ever seen .. such refined carpentry
Amazing build. As an amateur DIY'er, this is the level of construction I aspire to reach.
Thanks Larry! It's all about practice and just getting out there and doing it. You'll 100% get there if you stick with it.
Did not think I'll ever watch a 20 minute video of some dude making a desk. Good video and the desk is awesome. Thank you for sharing.
Haha well I appreciate you sticking through and watching it man.
Holy crap, this is one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time! You even welded the legs from scraps! Beautiful desk :)
I have seen a lot of builds and setups, you my good sir have left me in awe.
You are a pure genious. Have been watching multiple DIY wood stuff, and you are the only one using your brain, not only expensive tools for every little thing. The way you use protruding screws and hit the wood, to stamp the mounting holes - amazing. The way you use just ordinary paiting tape, to mark and transfer any mounting points - hoo lee fook.
Eneryone else is just forcing you to buy their useless "tools", and you just do what you love.
I love the desk and looks beautiful but in my opinion, as someone who works on his computer every day, I would ditch the keyboard drawer and lower the desk a tad so it's at a good height for the keyboard to be on the top of the desk. I'm definitely going to do something similar when I remake my desk.
That’s a great looking desk with clever storage. I really enjoyed seeing how you built it, and your great workshop. Good luck!
Thank you John, always appreciate your support :)
Tech and woodworking combined, you’ve got a new subscriber.
The desk design and build is impressive in itself, all the tech stuff is the cherry on top. Well done sir!
Thanks Zach! I'd definitely like to do more builds like this in the future since I'm such a tech enthusiast too. It's nice to know that there are other people out there who share my love of tech and building stuff :)
I came here to make the same comment as Zach One - my youtube feed is a lot of woodworking and tech, so this video was a perfect algorithm find, +1 subscriber from me as well!
I live in a area near to the sea and the amount of sea breeze is just ridiculous. A desk PC hardly survive 6 months when you place it in an open area in the house. So I plan on making a desk similar to this one in a place where the I control the air flow and place some dehumidifiers in it in a year or so In Sha Allah. Thanks for sharing this project.
Zac has given me a new love for walnut.... walnut looks so classy!!!
As a practicing cabinetry wood worker, you've done an absolutely fine job here.
Thank you!
Hi Zac, I love your computer table, following the grain onto the sides (waterfall ends) is a nice feature. Stunning wood walnut and looks like a $5000 table. Thank for sharing
I'm a caprentry student from the Netherlands and I really want to build a desk for my masterpiece next year, this is so wonderful
That is one sweet desk . Would love to have that for some gaming .
I just built my own version (low budget ofc) few weeks ago and this video didn't showed up when I searched, smh. It would have helped me a lot! Awesome build btw
The drawers look great without the edge band. Matched the top much more and brings something different to the mix.
Also that coat used during welding was dope.
This is an awesome build and exactly what I was looking for!
My desk setup is aiming to be a bit more modular so I can move it around as needed so it won’t be as fancy; but the drawer idea is perfect for what I’m cooking up.
Keep up the great work!
Yup! That's how you do! 👌 You should submit some pics to one of those UA-cam setup competition videos channels.... Like setup wars.
Dude... awesome work.
A lot of work involved. I would show that to everyone visiting home.
Thank you! It usually gets shown whenever I'm doing a house tour haha
I've been imagining doing something like this for years. Well done.
This is awesome, but it is definitely DIY at a whole other level! One can only aspire...
Awesome build!
Looks amazing!
I am not a proffesional metalworker, but i leran that when you drill into metal you should use oil.
Just apply a little bit of oil where you're drilling, that will make the drilling proccess much more easier and also will keep your bits last longer.
I'm guessing that there is special oil for drilling but i am using some old motorcycle oil and its works great so far.
Very appriciate all the time and efforts that you are spending on editing these videos.
Good luck!
Yes, you're very right! A little bit of lubricating oil will help the bits to last longer!
I really enjoyed watching you go through the process of building your desk! My hope is that one day here in the future I'll be able to have a workshop like yours of my own! Can't wait to see what you do next!
Walnut is some beautiful wood! That desk must weight a ton though. Excellent job!
Living the dream.
nice speaker boxes that match too. great space to work / play
You should really have more subs. Really beautiful and awesome desk
Thanks Janie! I'll do my best to keep putting out quality content, and hopefully the people will find me. Word of mouth helps to if you have any friends who might be into what I'm doing :)
Fantastic Job. Can't believe the production value for such a small channel! Well and truly subbed and can't wait to go through your catalogue now.
You successfully combined my two hobbies woodworking and computers now subscribed and looking forward to the next video and diving into your back catalogue
Damn dude. I feel like your my spirit animal. Just with a ton more skill than myself.
Hey man don't sell yourself short. I wasn't sure I could do this until I tried! Cheers man
Should totally get a sprayer. You can get a decent enough compressor/sprayer combo for 100$. And it makes life infinitely easier. You'll spend half as much time sanding.
Though keep in mind a gas mask is essential for spraying unless you have great ventilation, and even then it's recommended. Those fumes are no joke.
Subbed! Very well done.
The term 'wooden pc' in online pub matches will hit differently ☠️
To have all your equippment and such a huge workshop is a living dream for me! Nice video!
Zac your builds are AMAZING. Inspiring for my own channel and builds. Thanks for the high effort stuff man!
Man, that is a seriously beautiful desk!! I love the integration of the PC within the desk. I need to build a new desk as well and I thought about just building a small matching cart to set my tower on to save some room on the desktop and still let it have proper airflow. Speaking of, the vents on the front look great. I wonder if it would be beneficial to add a removable dust filter behind the vent. Great job, Zac. New sub!
Wow, sorry for my slow response!, don't know how I missed this. I really appreciate the kind words!
I didn't include it in the video due to time constraints but there actually is a dust filter that sits between the front of the drawer and the front of the rad, so we are definitely on the same wave length there :)
@@ZacBuilds perfect! That's awesome man. Now that you've been using the desk for a while, is there anything you wish you would have done differently or something else you'd want to add to the desk? -Joe
Nice desk, helps when you have the room and kit to fabricate yourself but I like the final design, the waterfall effect looks really good.
Long video? Are you kidding? That was worth every minute.
Thanks William! People say you have to make short videos these days but I'm going to keep making longer ones for the people out there who appreciate the more indepth videos.
The finish is perfect
Wow! You're so underrated and under appreciated. Great desk - That super wide drum sander is a life saver I bet.
Thanks Isaac! It really is, I wouldnt trade it for the world at this point haha
Did you make your own chair? If not, could you provide the brand and model name for the chair?

Fantastic, Very good
as system builder i have a few things on that build, one please dont ever drill holes with the mobo in place thats asking to short the board ... two you have like no air flow in that build ... you have a rad on the intake and exhaust, you should be running push pull on those to increase airflow while decreasing fan speeds cause it has to be choking that system you might have decent cooling but its going to burn out faster with the lack of airflow. other than that this desk is absolutely beautiful as a fellow carpenter i cant wait to build a custom desk case to show off my pc!
Beautiful desk. Very functional as well. I love the integrated PC. Great when upgrading it!
I was recommended this video specifically for the Drawers you did. Love how simple you install looked going to attempt to make my own desk but I plan to Intake from the back wall and exhaust out front. I have pets so I dont want them to rub against the grill or front of the desk and find half a husky inside by RAD grills
My favourite video so far! You are becoming quite the natural in front of the camera. Loved the way you edited this one! Keep it up!
Thanks Martha! I definitely feel _more_ but it's still something I'm working on. I really appreciate your feedback, it's nice to know others can see the improvement I feel internally :)
Love discovering more Canadian creators and wood workers!
It's so satisfying the way your drawers close 😍
I love me some good soft close hardware!
@@ZacBuilds haha I think I know what you mean 😆😉
Fantastic build! The desk is absolutely beautiful.
I really like the tip for the for the drawer front. Nice job man!
Thanks bro! I've tried a lot of different techniques and this one seems to work the best for me
Nice desk and video. Like you presentation style.
Thanks Leo! I spent a LONG time doubting that I'd ever be able to effectively host a UA-cam video before I decided to just give it a shot. Really appreciate this feedback.
i`ve gone to the bottem comment leo smit yours was chosen
Desperately need the name of the chair in the thumbnail. Does anyone know about it?
also need this!
i also need it! beautiful desk, beautiul chair, its very nice together
I think its a Deskchair Viiki from Fredriks modern living

@Michiel W Great shout but i cant seem to find a «slimmer» frame, all very wide.
Nice design! One thing that may cause an issue in a few years is that the solid wood will expand and contract with changes in humidity but the plywood won't. The screw holes on the outside edge should be oversized to allow for this wood movement.
Ok. Randomly recommended video and I have my new favorite maker channel. Amazing job, stunning result and a great video! I'm sure this channel is going to blow up soon.
Dude, Igor, thank you so much man! As someone whos just starting out on UA-cam I really appreciate that. Thank you!
Man, you are a WIZARD! What a beautiful desk! I also really love the wood! 😍 Well done! 😎
Oh... Damn. That is one beautiful desk. Even the chair is amazing. I love this guy.
Great desk! I love the Ash strip!!
Thanks buddy, couldnt have done it without you there to help me lift it :)
Random question, what's the name of the chair? is it DIY? or is it available to purchase for public?
Really eager to know that too :P

@@durimkelmendi Wow, thanks! I expected this to be a 900 dollar chair or something
@@durimkelmendi Darn, Doesn't look like it's available in the US.
Beautiful work. If I was building it for myself, I'd make it deeper so I had more distance from the monitors
Where did you get your chair from? It looks amazing, a bit like the Eames lounge chair!
Not sure, but it might be this one :)

That's a beautiful desk, really impressed.
Hey Zac,
Great build, Love it.
Just a couple tips that will make cutting rabbets and dados a little easier.
Since you now have a router table you can use a bit in it to cut them instead,
But other than that great build with some really good tips in there!!!
Appreciate the tips! This video predated my router table but I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future!
nice build...you gave me some ideas to improve my own built in entertainment center pc.
Built in Computer - sounds cool!
First shot - laptop on desk front and center
JKJK very nice work man. Looks awesome and great taste!
I personally would have mirrored the vents onto the other side as well, just for the symmetry. But great job none the less. Probably the best desk PC I've seen on youtube so far
Awesome build! Looking forward to see what you do with the keyboard tray.
Thanks Ryan! The keyboard tray is done and I'm currently editing the video! Should be out real soon :)
Wow! Really good craftsmanship!
Thanks Klint!
Pretty awesome build dude. So glad this showed up in my recommended.
One Video - 200 hours of work... crazy good content
It is a very beautiful woodwork
That's an insanely nice desk. First time seeing a video yours, instant subscription. Did you build that chair as well?
Same. First time for me too. Well done. I'm inspired to upgrade my recently upgraded IKEA gaming desk.

Why do people buy.... well spend too much money on card board desk like IKEA they are garbage.

Looks amazing
Thanks!
Really nice work, I love the big beefy top and the decorative stripe. I think you've certainly got a knack for design as well, really nice proportions! One suggestion, when you screw the plywood bases to the top, it's good to elongate the holes across the grain to accommodate wood movement (maybe you did it but it wasn't in the video). Nice work!
great job my frined!
this looks awesome tho i didnt see any power buttons inn the front you could definitely add one to the front of the drawer for maximum effect
Great work!
hey dude, love the desk. This is the first of your videos I have come across. The instruction is very clear, I definitely learned some tips and tricks here.
Beautiful, the desk for sure but your workshop and tool set up really nice.
Cool ideas galore - thx!
really cool desk. I like the ash insert it makes the desk come alive. The drawers look really cool, one thing that stand out for me the desk got a bit feel like it is a drawer, maybe that is caused by legs? never the less I would be really happy to have desk like this. :)
This is one of the best setups on the internet. Easily.
Ha thanks! I've slowly been upgrading it over the years too.
Your channel is underrated man, how don't you have at least a million subscribers??
Thank you! It's a tough market, there's a lot of competition in this space, all I can do is keep putting out quality content and being patient!
insanely nice desk
First off you did an awesome job on that desk, and your video editing is super well done. I'm curious about your computer chair. Where did you get it and do you like it?
it looks like an eames lounge chair
amazing idea
