  • Albert Zugsmith's shining moment in an amiably disreputable career that nonetheless included producing pix by Sirk, Welles and Jack Arnold. Only Fu Manchu is missing from this hypnotically retrograde yellow peril hallucination starring Vincent Price and half the Asian actors in Hollywood. Amazingly, in 1959 William Castle was originally set to shoot this in color with Miiko Taka, star of Sayonara--in Tokyo!

It’s positively criminal Trailers From Hell don’t get more views. They are a gold mine of wit and insight every movie fan should see. Also a great resource for cinema obscura.

Saw this at the age of seven on Chiller Theatre and it blew my mind. That was after a few weeks earlier when 1964's The Time Travelers blew it. No other films have ever seemed more phantasmogoric...or is that pharmacological?

An underrated film in the Vincent Price filmography. The most physical role of his career. Also, the opium taking sequence is more scary and frightening than him taking the LSD trip in The Tingler.

It is a true "Beatnik" film. I absolutely love it.

Just found it and loved it. It's a head film before there were head films. Never seen anything quite like it. I felt like I was high just watching it. Note how the opening scene connects to the last, just classic.

So this IS based on DeQuincies (who was one of Coleridge's mates) 1820s book _Confessions of an English opium eater_
I had *no idea* they'd made it into a movie! @_@

There should be a compilation of sewer films: this, 55 Days at Peking, The Third Man, The Shawshank Redemption, and of course Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, among others.

Talk about miscasting.... Vincent Price of all people? This is the worst thing he's ever done! Picture Stinks!
