I have a couple of 19th c. looms from Appalachia with those kinds of reeds (8:33). They are used one at a time and are in different sizes, with so many spaces to the inch to separate the warp threads and are installed in the beater that compacts the weft after each throw of the shuttle.
This indeed is a beautiful treasure, I wished there wasn't so much pavement surround the house and all the out buildings. Thanks for sharing the history of the Carson house.👍
I was raised in the Crumpler area of Ashe County from 1932-1943 by my Grandparents, James Robert (Bob) and Ollie Carson. I don't recall any conversation about or inter-visitation between these two families. This does not mean to say the two families were not related as it appears they would be but things were different in those days, I lived about 3 -4 miles fro, my twin brother a nd we never met until we were 43 years old. Carl Carson Jr.
