    This was just what I needed. The brake pedal on our 85 Club Car DS gradually got to the point it could be pushed all the way to the floor and braking was weak. After watching your video I looked underneath, found there was no lock nut on the cable tensioner, and the adjustment nut was backed off. I tightened the nut, added a locknut, and brakes are fine again. Thank you!

    Thank you for this video! Have you ever had any issues where your brakes suddenly locked up while you were driving? I’ve had this problem recently and I don’t know what to do. If you can offer any advice, please let me know.

    2003 DS. I replaced the L side drum and shoes. I had to tighten adjustment screw under the pads all the way to get drum on. Now the pedal has a lot more free play and the brakes get really hot. Do I adjust the pedal or cable first?

      You should do both side's brakes at once. Adjust out the pedal adjustment fully and adjust the brake drums at their individual adjusters on a new installation. Then adjust the pedal adjustment shown in the video to get everything "right." The video adjusts both brakes, so if you have the drums mismatched it won't stop right. Hope that helps.

    Did you make a video on removing tires and checking brake pads?

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  2 роки тому

      I haven't made a specific video on changing out the pads - mine are still good. I will eventually. I know I filmed some footage with the pads shown in one of my videos but I don't remember which one. They are basically just drum brakes

    I have a 98 Club Cart. Does the brake pedal adjustment also effect the parking brake? My parking brake is difficult to engage. I need to push very hard and hold it.

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  3 роки тому

      the pedal adjustment shown adjusts how much force is applied to the brakes as you push the pedal, so it also adjusts the parking brake (at least on my model). The parking brake on mine just locks the brake pedal down. Sounds like you should do a full check of everything - make sure your brake shoes are in good condition, that everything is adjusted correctly, and lubricate anything that should move but is sticking. Hope that helps.

      Try loosening the cable for a little more free play in the brake pedal. The pedal will then move a little closer to the floor engaging more of the parking brake pawl.

      Well I'm not sure as I did watch your video but my cart does go forward and drives but it jerks as if the cart were "drunk" in a way and I should tell you the brakes are very sensitive just the mere tap the cart almost stops dead on a dime.

    What happens if your golf cart won’t stop

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  11 місяців тому

      this video is just for adjusting the free play in the pedal between brake shoe changes. If your cart won't stop at all you need to figure out why and address that. Is it shoes, is it a broken cable, etc.

    IF THIS IS THE WRONG WAY--- WHY DONT YOU PROS,,, SHOW US THE RIHT WAY???

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  5 років тому +2

      it's not the "wrong" way - it is the correct way to adjust from the pedal (it's shown in the Club Car service manual!). I think they are referring to adjusting each drum brake (each drum has an adjuster too) or they are just mad that people can learn to DIY so easily

    That is so wrong. This video should be taken down. 100 percent wrong on how to adjust golf car brakes.
    I can appreciate the attempt, but atleast state that you don't know if this is the correct way to do it.

      You don't know the difference between done correctly and not correctly.
      Done correctly your brake pads will wear better, the cart will stop correctly and the brake cables won't be stretched out. I'm in the golf cart repair business and I have customers that say they saw it on UA-cam and I have to roll my eyes and tell them it's incorrect. So UA-cam can be good or bad. In this instance, it's bad.

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  6 років тому +2

      I stand by the video... it is the correct way to adjust the brake pedal free play and thus adjust the braking power. My cart was not able to stop because the pedal had too much free play in it and would not fully engage the brakes. This quick adjustment fixed the problem and it has worked PERFECTLY ever since. The issue with my cart was not the drum brakes themselves, it was the pedal free play. And the adjustment I did is shown in the repair manual. I'm sorry if my video is costing you business but you know the video is right and I suspect the reason you are complaining about it is because it is costing you business.

      It's certainly not costing me business, but confusing about doing it right and what someone sees on you tube and then tries to duplicate what they have seen.
      A real golf cart tech, never touches the cable.

      @@michaelthomas2653 Michael. I don't think I would ask you to repair my golf cart. You are a pain in the rear, but you don't have to be.
      Telling someone there is a better way and explaining how to do it is fine...as I am trying to do with you. Just telling someone they are doing something wrong and not even hinting at a better way is just complaining. It benefits no one and makes everyone feel bad.
      Bottom line, if there is a better way, I wish you would tell the man how to do it better. I have seen people do that on a number of videos. If you are not going to give some ideas how to do it better, I suggest that you just stay out of it...just my opinion. I wish you well.

    bad way of showing people how to adjust brake. Very wrong! First you loose the cable so there is no interference between shoes and the drum. Adjust shoes to drum with adjusting device on the wheel. When both sides are adjusted only then adjust cables which will give you travel of brake pedal.

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  Рік тому +1

      it's not wrong... it's right out of the shop manual. You are confusing when you replace brake shoes and have to adjust them individually with what I'm showing, which is the pedal adjustment in between shoe changes
