For comedy expansion. It’s a long running sitcom, so new characters and situations have to be introduced from time to time.
I learnt so much about dating watching this series growing up. Helped me a lot in life 😂

The only way that woman would date, marry and have a kid with someone who looks like Alan is if she was in her mid 30s at the time and he was a well-known cardiologist or similar. Then she would quickly marry him, have his kid, divorce him, take the house, car, kid and half his money for life. But a funny show.
