"Awaken my child, and embrace the glory that is your birthright. Know that I am the Overmind; the eternal will of the Swarm, and that you have been created to serve me." I miss you, Overmind, you were so much more badass than grandmas queens and Kerrigan...
+Rafael Lopez It wasn't a complete waste of time, it whole de-infestation plot freed her from amon's influence. Otherwise she would've been a slave when amon returned just like the overmind was
@Senior Pug He was on the fronts lines in battle against them and even sided with the Protoss against the Zerg many times. Course he knows more than the experts.
Did you know that in Star Trek the next-generation the Borg were meant to be an insectoid race but due to budget constraints they were made into a cybernetic alien race I think The Zerg are what the Borg were meant to be
The zerg can produce units at an incredibly fast rate and if your army falls in one battle you can just build another one in seconds, way before your opponent can rebuilt hes own, as long as you got the resourses.
I love this overview. I wish they updated each one with Swarm's and Void's new units. The Starship Troopers style of the Zerg was the reason I traded the boring Battlefield 1942 with OG Starcraft way back in 1998!
My uncle Amrik Khella was so cool. He showed me Starcraft, world of Warcraft, and Diablo. What a fun guy he is... too bad he stopped talking to me. Thanks for the fun.
As a basic run down: The Protoss have few, expensive, powerful units with lots of special abilities. Protoss need to rely on conservative tactics: actively avoiding losses, relying on terrain etc. The Zerg use vast numbers of cheap, disposable units. Zerg need to rely on stealth and subterfuge. Try both, and Terran too. The differences between all three factions are too long to list. Until you try out each one yourself, you'll never know which one you're suited to.
I always wonder if the carapace armor that the Zergs have is enough to protect them from solar radiation, especially when they venture into outer space to invade other planets. I think Blizzard should explain that :)
I Love Corruptor. Armored air vs Phoenix (although I switched to Protoss), destroys Collosus, observers, Ravens etc. Can morph into Broodlord and become almost invincible + beautiful design.
the great thing about them is that they can out mass any army but they die very fast and zergs has the most casualties then any other (takes one drone just to make a building) and unlike the other races they can only spawn by one building the hive thats a building to start with and where minerals are collected, making other buildings just unlocks more to spawn at the hives
not quite as big, and the zerg more adapt pre-existing biological lifeforms to serve as troops rather than create whole new lifeforms marly based of pre-existing DNA. for example for the Tyranids created the Zoanthrope out of Eldar DNA to act as living phonic siege weapon. where as if the zerg where to get their claws on some eldar, they would repurpose their form and being into something else. perhaps some kind of very fast and agile phonic support form. maybe as some sort of commando lifeform. something that can strike and fast while sowing confusion through enemy ranks with mental powers or attacks. a more mobile version of a queen perhaps. also zerg are purely organic as apposed to tech-no organic. and also they tend to ack in both their biology and function more like a bacteria or virus. also also they have a far quicker and more resilient regeneration
I wasn't crying. I was pointing out that Zerg has it's hardships as well as other races. Terran can just drop all the energy on their orbitals in a second, and so can Protoss with chrono boosts. However,a zerg player can't get a crap load of larva injects because he can't stack them. And he NEEDS the larva late game. Another thing would be roach burrow micro, twice as hard as blink micro because you do have to unburrow the roach. In my opinion Zerg is at least not the easiest race.
zerg have clear understanding of technology-and evolve biologicly to counter the technological weapons they encounter. also, mutating their larva into whatever creature is needed on the battlefield takes less time then constructing a machine-multipite creatures can be mutated at the same time from the same hatcerhy while terran or protoss need multipite factories to craft thier machines and in the end,the evolution of zerg is so succesful that their biological weapons are more effective.
Ah, yes. Forgot about the creep tumour. Although I've never seen a player building a Queen specifically for laying tumours. Players always (at least that's what I've seen) use the Queens that are placed next to the Hive in order to provide a booster for larva spawning. From time to time when there is no need of this, a player would send a Queen to place a creep tumour somewhere. All I'm saying it would make it much more realistic as to the nature of the Zerg. :)
Another thing is that these are put together to highlight where each unit shines. If you watch the Terran and Protoss ones, you'll see them ripping their way through armies.
At a certain point - yes. But not for long. A hive has a single Queen, a few males and plenty of workers. Additional queens move to other places to expand and build new hives. Populations of two nests/hives (made by queens born from the same mother bee) will attack each other if necessary. So practically there is only one Uberleader (talking Wolfenstein-style here ;P) of the whole nest.
Not a problem, friend. It's just interesting seeing how one of the most successful RTS games stemmed from the most successful tabletop strategy game of all time. And while I understand why Games Workshop dropped the project, seeing how Starcraft turned out makes me wonder how awesome the game would have been with the WH40k races and lore instead. It would have been pretty boss.
In the early years of Star Trek the next generation The Borg were meant to be an insect-like Race but due to budget constraints they were change into humanoid cyborgs at the last minute but I had a feeling if they had a budget they would be something like this!!!!
I may have just been playing a lot of Hearthstone lately but I realized playing the Zerg is kind of like having a deck, and you have to build your deck around your opponents and whatever...I guess that makes sense.
Samuel James You basically have to build a deck that will counter the other popular decks that you will end up fighting to maximize your winrate. It's similar with how you choose to build troops in SC.
@On3Thought I wrote this before the ghost balancing. Snipes made zerg impossible to play late game as their tier 3 units were worthless, and zerg has no really counter to ghosts. Mules were also extremely op when it came to high yields
@FierceLegoLink I agree that Zerg is a hard race to play because it is very macro heavy, You have to make sure you keep up your drone count, replacing drones you use to make buildings, make sure you keep your queen pumping out larva, and keep up with creep spread, all the while producing units to defend/attack.
actually they are similar. because both have a Hive Mind, a swarming trait, and killer instincts. if you played both DOW2 an Starcraft, compare the unit design of Tyranid and Zerg, you will find similarites. btw, if the two swarm ever collide, Tyranid will devour the Zerg within seconds, that how merciless they are based on what it is portraited in DOW2
@Nightbaron61 Don't forget, zerg are aliens so their physiology is different from life on earth. Apparently in the SC universe there are creatures that live in space, so those guys NEED a carapace that can withstand solar radiation. The zerg probably got this when they assimilated those creatures. Space flight was also probably obtained through space-fairing animals. The mutas probably manually propel themselves by a pressure release caused by the muscle contraction in their wings.
Zerg has to know when to make drones and when to make units. While you can do both at the same time, it isn't as efficient as the other races since zerg has to rely on outproducing them. Zerg also needs a higher worker count just to break even with the other races. As with positioning, range is the problem. Zerg has to flank more than the other races since most of their units are short range/melee.

@rusher38 Thats because Starcraft was originally a Warhammer 40k adaptation, but Blizzard and Games Workshop fell out before it was finished. I actually believe Blizzard still pays royalties to Games Workshop for using marines (which were obviously going to be space marines). I could be wrong about that though.
@343TheSentient or actual locusts... which are pretty accurate parallel. Swarm in absolutely innumerable numbers, consume everything in an instant, and spread.
I love how the description of the ultralisk is read over ultralisk doing shitty pathing :D "once its released into the battlefield, there isnt much that can stand in its way... if he goes the right way!"
Best Zerg unit: Zergling. 1: Costs no gas. 2: 2 for 1 larvae. 3: You only need a spawning pool to make it. 4: It has alot of attack speed. 5: You can get it very early in the game. 6: They come in horde's. 7: They can surround units, making them nearly invincible. 8: They are small, and therefore hard to hit. 9: They are an insane unit. 10: They costs only ½ supply. 11: This makes no sence.. 12: Microwave thumps up nubs
Warhammer 40K is quite a bit older than Starcraft, and it doesn't help you to pretend otherwise. However, it bears mentioning that both the Tyranids and the Zerg borrow a lot of design ideas from Ridley Scott's Aliens- something which Blizzard seem to make a clear nod towards in the Aliens homage in the Battle for the Amerigo. Ultimately, sci-fi alien concepts are often pretty incestuous, and the best artists give credit to the artists that came before them.
"they can kill a marine faster than he can empty his gauss rifle"
Yeah, he never does...
"Awaken my child, and embrace the glory that is your birthright. Know that I am the Overmind; the eternal will of the Swarm, and that you have been created to serve me."

I like Zagara and the Overmind was realy cool
If they are not turn her into human again she will be infested by Amon ! Only with the power of Primal Zerg can help her against Amon infested !
Too bad Blizzard removed that player character concept. I loved the way SC1 involved you in the story.
overmind dead woohoo
Ariel Hanson: "You know more about the Protoss and Zerg than any of experts i have read about Jim"
Depthcharger44 Jim Raynor knows more about starcraft then the game developera
@Senior Pug He was on the fronts lines in battle against them and even sided with the Protoss against the Zerg many times. Course he knows more than the experts.
Zerg are my favorite alien species
Did you know that in Star Trek the next-generation the Borg were meant to be an insectoid race but due to budget constraints they were made into a cybernetic alien race I think The Zerg are what the Borg were meant to be
interesting
Would've thought it was the Orks lol
Orks are a close second only because the zerg evolve so fast and could possibly absorb the orks and make them a cast of zerg
The zerg Swarm will infested Orks :)
The zerg can produce units at an incredibly fast rate and if your army falls in one battle you can just build another one in seconds, way before your opponent can rebuilt hes own, as long as you got the resourses.

Protoss :Advance tech
Zerg: Overwhelming numbers
Terran: GUN!
Wait didn't the Zerg win at the end of Starcraft 2.
1:51 Zergs in a nutshell...
I love this overview. I wish they updated each one with Swarm's and Void's new units.
The Starship Troopers style of the Zerg was the reason I traded the boring Battlefield 1942 with OG Starcraft
way back in 1998!
Battlefield 1942 was published in 2002.
@@antoniousai1989 so boring it felt like came out in 1998.
😋
I like how you guys made Raynor narrate it !
In Polish version Matt is narrator
Anyone else getting Goosebumbs as soon as those Ultralisks appear? :D
Marco Pfefferl üzere iki gün Q ü
Forget the ultralisks. Wait till the leviathans and omegalisks get here. THEN you're in trouble.
Heeyyyoooo
Zergs are awesome
Agreed!
FOR THE SWARM!
my favorite alian is ZERG 😙
the SWARM
Chaos Gaming Live for the Swarm!
My uncle Amrik Khella was so cool. He showed me Starcraft, world of Warcraft, and Diablo. What a fun guy he is... too bad he stopped talking to me. Thanks for the fun.

What's the Terrans like both?
I love how they just swarm everything. *sniff* it's beautiful.
I still remember the times when Queens used to fly and spawn broodlings... Good ol' times!
Long live Brood War!!!
I love how Jim sounds so haunted
I serve only the Queen of Blades... For the Swarm!
Who wouldn't, am I right fellas? Heh heh ;D
But in all seriousness, Zerg FTW
No, our true lord is the overmind
s i m p
The Ultralisks used to have an Ability called Ram. Which no longer exists in Competitive multiplayer, but it's shown in the vid.
FOR THE QUEEN!
I always wonder if the carapace armor that the Zergs have is enough to protect them from solar radiation, especially when they venture into outer space to invade other planets. I think Blizzard should explain that :)
They don't have charge attack but the attack got increased a lot. From 15+2 Splash to 35+2
You are right...
First like
7 years old
Small world
I Love Corruptor.
Armored air vs Phoenix (although I switched to Protoss), destroys Collosus, observers, Ravens etc. Can morph into Broodlord and become almost invincible + beautiful design.
Anyone imagined this with the voice of Liam Neeson?
can i keap him he folowed me home please please
Yes, give him regular biomass daily.
Zerg master race, they're THE reason I am buying (not bought yet) StarCraft 2 for.
Is that Raynor's voice? ^^
yep
+Đức Tài Văn Nguyễn "An overview of the Zerg narrated by Jim Raynor."
No, it's Morgan Freeeman.
the great thing about them is that they can out mass any army but they die very fast and zergs has the most casualties then any other (takes one drone just to make a building) and unlike the other races they can only spawn by one building the hive thats a building to start with and where minerals are collected, making other buildings just unlocks more to spawn at the hives
I claim these minerals.
Oh yeah the Zerg was my favorite race since I started playing Starcraft I.
2:26 why is the probe attacking the zealot
changling?
Changelings dont attack.
I hope we have Kerrigan narrating the same sort of overviews for Heart of the Swarm. Going over the changes, new abilities and units, et cetera.
did he say xenomorphs at 0:15
yes he did. but xenomorph just means alien form.
Zerg:Cockroaches
Protoss:Technology
Terran:Power Of Bros
2:14 Never seen in-game
Yeah. weak players never do that and advanced players quickly counter!
Alexander Mill Its not about that. This was really stupid cause zealots didnt killed infestors instead they tried to kill colloses!
Alexander Mill I`m diamond too, maybe you could show me some replays with Infestors? Xllon#2548 (EU)
I just realises how cool zerg is
So Tyranids basically..
yup
Zerg ripped off Tyranids
Jack Of No Trades yeah but way weaker.
not quite as big, and the zerg more adapt pre-existing biological lifeforms to serve as troops rather than create whole new lifeforms marly based of pre-existing DNA. for example for the Tyranids created the Zoanthrope out of Eldar DNA to act as living phonic siege weapon. where as if the zerg where to get their claws on some eldar, they would repurpose their form and being into something else. perhaps some kind of very fast and agile phonic support form. maybe as some sort of commando lifeform. something that can strike and fast while sowing confusion through enemy ranks with mental powers or attacks. a more mobile version of a queen perhaps. also zerg are purely organic as apposed to tech-no organic. and also they tend to ack in both their biology and function more like a bacteria or virus. also also they have a far quicker and more resilient regeneration
Buzz light year would be so terrified
I serve only Liam Neeson
awesome. love that show. love starcraft, love raynor, love zerg.
Space marines would crush the zerg
That is hardly fair, WH 40K crushes nearly everything.
Zerg are one of many of my favourite alien races

this didn't age well
SC 2 shows how visceral they are there the best looking Faction.
Another thing is that these are put together to highlight where each unit shines. If you watch the Terran and Protoss ones, you'll see them ripping their way through armies.
thxs 4 the vid, i was just getting started with zerg and wasnt sure enough of how they work...
Zerg? Rush
Terran? Rush
Protoss? Cheese
Hotel? Trivago
Zerg is one of the most hardest races to ever master
StarCraft, Keep making videos!
first time i saw this i wasnt sure it was jim but then he said someone i knew someone i cared about and im like yep thats jim
The Hydra rising is Just breath-taking!!

Transcribe audio is funny as hell in this vid. Goes to the name...QUEEN OF NORWAY.
no doubt the most important unit to a good defense and good economy
this is now my new motivational video
I love how most space games have the swarming faction: Starcraft - Zerg, Warhammer - Tyranid (much creepier then zerg), Halo - flood
Great Artwork
i missed you starcraft D: yay
If you're good with the zerg, you're almost unstoppable.

well you get queens used for creep spread. so an additional queen from a hive is kind of needed for creep
They need to make a Starcraft full-feature movie.
i like how they max upgrades on the featured race

no way! Jim Raynor's saying all these positive things about the Zerg?!??! he's the one that's supposed to proudly look down on the hostile Zerg!
Funny thing is I always like playing the Zerg,
"Goes by the name - queen of Norway"
Nice.
40k Space marine: DID SOMEONE SAY XENO. *“urge to purge intensifies”*
I know I'm replying after 8 months, but... Oh my God, "urge to purge" is an absolutely glorious phrase and I will definitely appropriate it
"where the facts, >>sunglasses onnnn

irony?

I'll take SC1's style of campaign any day-- each title felt like a full story arc, rather than just a piece of it.
How do they move across the galaxy if they don't have technology?
Leviathans are bioships that can warp space
@Gouki6669 maybe i should of been more clear... @rusher38 Thats because Starcraft was originally a Warhammer 40k adaptation, but Blizzard and Games Workshop fell out before it was finished. Raynor sounds like the narrator for Ancient Aliens on History Channel
Reticle, reticule, graticule.
totally!
the game would kick ass, even more than what it does now.
The Zerg look like the best race to be.
@343TheSentient or actual locusts... which are pretty accurate parallel. Swarm in absolutely innumerable numbers, consume everything in an instant, and spread.
I think that even the Daleks would be rendered helpless against the Zerg.
the daleks would be overwhelmed by the sheer number of zergs
That is true. Zerg are huge and can reproduce at VERY fast rates.
Elijah Kelley the daleks would kill 1 for every 100 that spawn. unless the dalek empire fights. because the dalek empire is 4.5 BILLION daleks
AWESOME!!
thank you for the upload, blizzard :)
I love how the description of the ultralisk is read over ultralisk doing shitty pathing :D "once its released into the battlefield, there isnt much that can stand in its way... if he goes the right way!"
If you think about the SC1 Zerg quest the overmind talks about warping.
Best Zerg unit:
Zergling.
12: Microwave
thumps up nubs
the protoss are divided among eachother and they did fight together on many occasion against the zergs
Warhammer 40K is quite a bit older than Starcraft, and it doesn't help you to pretend otherwise.

My heart for the swarm
I think the Zerg and the tyranids would merge into 1 awesome force
I can agree with that, I was just afraid someone was wrong on the internet. Carry on.
