Oh crap, I just ordered one this week. Kept coming back to this and your other videos on X70, your comparizons etc... Persuaded and not even the comment here on "Sensor control error" could hold me back. Your images and the calm and relevant pros to get this camera were a great inspiration. I've never owned a smaller camera like this with all great specs, those FUJI colors, and I'll be primarily using it for street photography and "everyday carry" camera, I'm enjoying your channel tremendously and you have such a special touch to it. The content, filming, photos, music... One of the best out there! Thanks very much!
I have come to the conclusion after all your videos on recommendations and reviews that the best thing to buy is you and not the camera to take the picture!! :P
Five reasons why I subscribe to your Chanel 1. your in depth knowledge of cameras. 2. your dog 3. wetting my apatite for another camera 4. your dog 5. I love you tube and cameras and your dog
I just bought this camera and was looking for some instruction videos when I bumped into your review. Lovely! I am so happy I bought it, just by watching your review :)
I got rid of my X100s and got the X70....Just got back from 4 days in Poland and I was on fire with it.Focussing was 20x better than the 100 and the tilted screen was a huge shooting bonus.I just love the camera in fact it has reinvented me when not toting my D700...something I had lost with the X100s
I was about to sell my X70 as I’ve been very disappointed with the images I’m getting with it. I have been using various micro 4/3rds cameras for years but wanted something more pocketable without having to suffer the restrictions of other compacts. I read the reviews and went for this camera over the Ricoh GRD and Sony RX100 my iii which were all similarly priced at the time. I’m finding the focus and metering to be inconsistently accurate and as a result the images are unpredictable. Even shooting raw (and using adobes dng converter for OS X so I can process the shots with lightroom) the images are wildly variable. Occasionally I get a real beauty but nowhere near as many with my EP5. Maybe I need to play around with the set up more. If I managed to produce images anywhere near the quality of yours I’d be over the moon. This is a great video so thanks for sharing your opinion and talent with us all.
I have owned the X70, XT2, XT10 & the X100T. The X70, IMO, is the best pocket travel camera because of the selfie screen, the compact size & the wider 28mm FOV. I honestly regret selling it. If you're not interesting in a camera for video, I highly recommend it. I've come back from vacation with amazing images and selfies of me and my wife. Pros: amazing colors, sharp lens, accurate AF, eye detection AF, compact size, minimalist (you won't have to worry about which lens/lenses to take, super useful flip up selfie screen, super fun to use, digital zoom modes. Cons: buttons are very small, no image stabilization, not great for video, no view finder.
Ive haf all those cameras as well (plus a few other Fujis)and I agree. The X70 is my favorite. However in my shootout it came behind the GRii. So chances are you might like that one as well, ua-cam.com/video/28emtF_wzCA/v-deo.html
Beautiful video. It really is an excellent advert for the camera, and love your voice, narration and the beautiful photos which themselves speak a thousand words. A review which respects the camera for what it is and appreciates it's capabilities. No camera is perfect, so we should remember that sometimes we can get too demanding about what we are using and forget that we need a little human effort to get the best results. Overall, nobody could possibly be disappointed using the X70-unless a viewfinder is a must. It would be wrong to dismiss the camera simply because of that in this instance.
In the Sixties were great rangefinders; from 24 x 26 uptill the Fijica 6 x 9. The first American camera in Space was a Minolta 24 x 36 rangefinder ( bought at the drugstore in Florida). The Kowa F was a nice 1 : 2,8 - 28 wide-angle 24 x 36 mm camera; with a view finder. That is what I want and now made by Fuji digital.
thank you for such a helpful review. this has really helped in my decision-making on which Fuji to buy. your images are also amazing. your editing, framing and compassion are very good. thanks.
I share your enthusiasm for the X70, having had one since they first came out. One thing to be mindful of is the somewhat fragile plastic battery retainer clip-had to have mine replaced last year, despite being careful when switching batteries. Otherwise, it’s an ideal every day carry camera.
Hello! Do you recommend this camera for portraits as well? Does it have good focus for close shots? I’m not a photographer nor is it a hobby for me but I just want to take beautiful pictures of my 1 year old child. I have an X100S but I can’t take good portraits with it. Thanks!
@@minhazkhan4093 Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. I’m considering this camera and the X100V but the X100V’s current market price is ridiculous (for me). I really want to take good pictures of my baby (portraits every month) but the X100S’ focus is a bummer (or maybe I’m just not really good at taking pictures or have incorrect settings). I love Fuji though and love the image quality I get from the X100S.
Excellent video.......and awesome photogaphy ! I teach that it is the PHOTOGRAPHER not the camera that makes a great image......and you are a fine example of such a skilled photographer .
Very good video. The points you make are meaningful and the pacing of the video is spot-on. Thanks for sharing. I've since bought an X70, largely based on your reviews.
Bought one. Absolutely love it. And yes, bokeh lovers, this may not be for you. Bokeh can be good but get close (as Burling explains) but this camera (lens) requires you to make meaning/a story out of your subject, not blur it. Nothing wrong with either philosophy, just different tools for different jobs.
Have been following you for some time and truly amazed at the quality and content of your videos. As a full frame shooter, I wanted to find a pocketable camera outside of the Sony realm and very happy I came upon the Fujifilm X70 to fill that need. This is my first Fuji experience, and there was a bit of a learning curve in transition, but the menus are so intuitive that with a little help from a couple videos like yours and the user manual, I felt quite up to speed in a couple days use. Coming from full frame 24 and 42 MP cameras I use every day for work, I was initially concerned about the performance level of a 16 MP APS-C sensor. However, the more I get familiar with the camera and hone my skills in balancing the settings, this sensor and lens combination can generate some very nice images. But this camera offers something else: it's a joy to use. The retro look of the silver and black body, the tilting screen, touch screen focus and comfortable handling size for a small camera, made this easy to like from the start. So far it's been a nice addition to my artistic toolbox, inspiring new projects especially in casual settings and during travel. Appreciate the two videos you posted on this wonderful camera that helped me with my decision and definitely happy with my Fuji X70!
I found two new ones on eBay about a month apart and picked up both, each for about $650-700, and worth every penny. Here's a sampling on Flickr of a few images I've taken with it if you're interested in checking them out: www.flickr.com/photos/140323062@N06/albums/72157671335389428
Stunning images, as usual … That’s a neat thing to b able to edit raw images in camera n then transfer them, ready to publish, to your phone, excellent. (I wonder if I’d miss the viewfinder … ). Great video, thkz
Just ordered an X70 again after selling my first one. Haven't been able to find a better fit for a second pocketable camera with the controls and IQ. Having no VF isn't such a biggie. Love the music on the video, by the way!
Chris Combe I'm in the market for a enthusiast level pocket camera. Did you consider the rx100? Can't decide between the x70 and the rx100M3. What's the video like on the Fuji? Thanks
Greetings Matias. Watched both your X70 and X100T videos. Wanted the X100T, but bought the X70 due to you advice/video, and the fact that I shoot my X-T1 with the screen flipped up most of the time, so would not do well with the X100T. All has turned out well and wanted to thank you for the videos and advice. All the best and Best Regards!
Great Review, EXCELLENT PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS man. Now only do you have an interesting eye in regards to choosing shots and how your compose them..but clearly you've got a lot of technical skills as well. Nice!
Beautiful review as always. The cheapest I could find the X70 used in Australia was 450usd... So I decided to buy the xf10 instead. This camera gets so much hate because of auto focus speed on reviews. It seems great to me. People complain too much - it is an APSC camera that fits in your pocket for 350USD brand new! I’d love if you reviewed it, but then again, I’m sure you’ll love it, like you love the x70!
Excellent review Matias! Do you think that the image quality and versatility of the X70 is comparable with the X-t10 or it is a few steps behind? I'm doubting which one to buy considering that both prices are similar (I'm looking for a portable camera for street and family photography)
Okay, okay, okay. I got one for Christmas and it's growing on me. The dials are small and fiddly and there's no viewfinder, and you'll have to pry my X100S out of my cold, dead hands, but okay. I'm coming around. There's so much not to like about the X70 ... and yet it works.
Fantastic photography, enigmatic music and a great accent. Brilliant Videos Mattias! I follower you from Damian Browns, channel, so happy I did I am inspired, just wish I had half your talent?
Hi Mattias, great video and I just bought one (silver). If you dont mind, could you share the post-processing you did? I like the grainy filmy look of your images and , also, did you use any of the simulation modes? Thanks !
Gonna record some thoughts about this tomorrow, finally, if I get chance... Finally 😅 naturally it won't compare to your video at all but I figured it was now or never
"Sneaky shots". I prefer a straight camera. Fuji should have made this camera in FF, with a 1 : 2,8 - 28 mm. A bright EVF, like in the Fuji-E series. A smaller screen and no fsh. And the same accu as in the X-e series. The designers of Fuji want to be too smart. We need camera's without programs and buttons. You made a ver good video, thanks !
Jaco van Lith sounds like you are describing the Leica Q. They probably don't want to compete against it since it was sold out for over a year. They don't think they can win.
Enjoyed your video and lovely photos. Very well done.. One technical point I think is wrong :) : sensor size does affect your image in more than crop; it scales your effective aperture as well as lens focal length. What were the "real depth of field" characteristics at wider apertures on a smaller sensor occur at narrower apertures as sensor size increases, just as "apparent depth of field" from telephoto magnification's foreshortening effect decreases as sensor size increases. Hence why, e.g, in medium format, real depth of field decreases at the same f-stop compared with full frame, but the image has more depth because it's less telephoto at a given focal distance, so looks more 3D.
Thanks, no a crop is a crop. No different from taking a printed picture and cutting it with some scissors. All you gett is a smaller picture, the rest stays the same. I plan to make a video about sensor sizes in the near future.
I'm afraid you're wrong, friend. :) ..Changing the focal length of the lens doesn't change real depth of field, apart from a little at short lengths (though there's further complications there) and also as you approach the hyperfocal distance, where shorter lenses have most of their depth of field zone behind the focal plane, compared with a longer lens, which is close to 50-50...It does change apparent depth of field: the more cropped it is because the longer the lens, the more magnification and compression of depth you're getting. So more apparent depth to the eye..Depth of field is, otherwise, and majorly always, a property of aperture and focal distance only. Bigger sensor, you have to scale the aperture properties just like the focal distance. But, I'm just repeating myself there. :) I like to think of these things (did a physics degree though I expect I'd understand my optics a little better now if I could remember what I did and sat down with it!), but I did run through it in my mind with the good articles that are out there on it, such as the Cambridge in Colour one on depth of field....Simply, one can think of it this way, somewhat laterally: if I make two simultaneous exposures with similar aperture and shutter speed on two different sensor sizes, the bigger sensor image is going to be darker, because the density of light coverage is less due to the increased area. So if I want them the same brightness, and keep my shutter speed constant, I need a bigger effective aperture on the bigger sensor..Or put another way, because you need to get closer in with a bigger sensor for your subject to take up the same proportion of the sensor, you're effectively widening the angle between which light rays on either extremities (optics diagram) are incident on the aperture, which is an effective widening (without physically changing f stop number)...Your (cool) camera there being crop sensor, has less ability for small real depth of field at a given f stop than a bigger sensor, then, but more ability for the apparent depth that telephoto introduces...But if you took two photos on identical sensor size of the exact same subject-one short lens, one long-and you adjusted your feet so that you had constant magnification between the two(subject took up the same proportion of the view), you'd see the same depth of field (I.e.apparent depth of field from telephoto effect is seen to be just that-"apparent")..Not written argumentatively..I'll leave it at that..Greetings and have a good day!
Im sorry but its to long to read now, will save it for later. The short story is, depth of field, exposure, compression and in theory focal length all stays the same. Its just a crop.
When I shoot raw with the x70 I then use Adobe DNG converter to get the DNG, then use photoshop elements. Works for me. But I'm pretty happy with the BW jpegs out of camera so I tend to just shoot jpeg most of the time.
I just edit the Fuji Raw files directly without converting. The reason I like dngs is to edit in my smartphone with Lightroom mobile. I agree, the jpegs looks good.
+Walid Kassouri I almost bought one yesterday that I found a good used deal on. But Im waiting until the x100f is out. Might get thst or an even cheaper x100t then. Though when a xpro-1 is like $2-250 used with warranty in Swedish stores...
Hi Matthias, great video - watched it several times and it convinced me I cannot live without an X70. Question: does it make pictures which are visibly better than a good ipHone csmera? I also need to convince my wife ! Your dog is very photogenic.
Hey, Mattias. Thanks for your vids. How does it compare in size with the Ricoh GRIII o GRIIIx? I would buy these if the screen was tiltable... I've found an used for 669€ which I think is quite expensive but the Ricoh moves around 850€ too...
I went for a ricoh gr, the version v (without wifi). The x70 is just not as pocketable, harder to hold, and the lens is actually not as sharp. Also cheaper.
Hi! After watching your review, I’m interested in buying a Fujifilm X70. But I would like to know if this camera can takes astrophotography and northern lights too. Btw I like the style of photos. Thank you ^^
Hi Mattias, I follow your channel and like it a lot. Actually your channel triggered my interest in the Fujifilm X cameras. Today I am using the Olympus OMD EM10 with some prime lenses. The Fujifilm X100S is interesting. I have downloaded some RAW images and processed them in Capture One program. Wow, I was simply blown away by the quality! I have started to look for second hand X100S, and here come some questions - There is a very big difference between the price of a mint second hand X100S and the prices of both X100T and X100F. Is there such a big difference in image quality? Are all the new feachers really that important and justify the price difference? How better, if at all, the bigger sensor of the X100F is? What is is your opinion about the X70 as a cheaper alternative to the X100S? Many thanks for your input and keep on the good work!
+Rony Zmiri The s and t have the same image quality. Its just the speed thats better on the T. The F has a very updated image quality and even faster. The video is also improved. I really, really enjoy using the f and think its worth every dollar. But so is the s. Its a great camera.
Superb little camera, but mine is broken beyond economical repair. I'd buy another in a heartbeat if they were still in production, but instead I went "Panaleica" DL7 instead.
Mattias Burling it has two lenses, so im not really sure how to use it and havent print the film yett. It has double exposure and etc bought the cam but the manuals are in Chinese! Smh 😅
Were all those amazing images taken with the x70? I sold my X100s as i got sick of the slow focussing and it was a bit big and not much less of a size than my D700 with a 50 1.4. That said I miss it like an ex girlfriend that got away and wait with interest on the 100T replacement but really like the look of the X70. Mate your images are very impressive!!
Hi Mattias. I just got a new x70 and like it a lot. I noticed however that the power switch is very loose and wobbles quite a bit. If you place a fingernail under the switch and lift the entire thing comes up a good amount and feels poorly attached. Have you run into that with yours or do you know others who have mentioned this?

Thanks, music credits are in the description.

That's cool that it has a zone focusing bar on the screen. A nice feature since a lot of modern camera lenses lack a depth of field scale.

I wish i had seen this before i bought my fuji xt100. I cant slip it in my pocket and the stills transfer app is totally crap. Great video Matthias
You're an amazing photographer! Great review. It's definitely a camera I'm very interested in.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful photos , ohh god. De la mejores.
it's your awesome voice! great video!
You’ll be surprised, but this camera still interests me in the end of 2020, there was no line release and prices hold at around €380-450.
And I am still using it in 2021.
2:13 HOOLY SCHMOLY!!!!!!
.what a phrase........is that Gary the metal detectorist from The Curse of Oak Island by any chance!!!
Hi Mattias! Should your choice even today be the x70 before the x100f?
Wow! What beautiful shots
It's fun to suddenly see a Swedish menu on the camera. :D A good video! Thanks!
The images in this video are awesome.
I bought one recently because of this video 🖤
love the photos at 2:09 and 2:18!
Images are most excellent. Thank you
What a lovely review
Love the review and the background music. Could you please mention what this piano piece is called ?
nice images
Hi Mattias, great video and I just bought one (silver). If you dont mind, could you share the post-processing you did? I like the grainy filmy look of your images and , also, did you use any of the simulation modes? Thanks !
Gonna record some thoughts about this tomorrow, finally, if I get chance... Finally 😅 naturally it won't compare to your video at all but I figured it was now or never
Definitely looking forward to that!
U should work in nat geo Chanel for documentary show..u have the talent
Sir David Attenborough is now reviewing camera.. :-)
This is a fixed lens compact camera with an APS-C sensor? Well that's something new. Never heard of that before
"Sneaky shots". I prefer a straight camera. Fuji should have made this camera in FF,
with a 1 : 2,8 - 28 mm.
:)
I agree, the jpegs looks good.
you really should do a fuji x100T review! this is awesome btw
+Walid Kassouri I almost bought one yesterday that I found a good used deal on. But Im waiting until the x100f is out. Might get thst or an even cheaper x100t then.
Though when a xpro-1 is like $2-250 used with warranty in Swedish stores...
Hi..I always like your videos.. I have a question.. can name all the cameras that shoot .DNG photos ? Thanks.
Hi Mattias, great video! Please, can you share the link where you bought the case.
I put a link in the description but you can buy it anywhere that sells fuji stuff.
Woooow what a video!!! What a story!! Great images!
You're such a good photographer!
Hi Matthias, great video - watched it several times and it convinced me I cannot live without an X70. Question: does it make pictures which are visibly better than a good ipHone csmera? I also need to convince my wife ! Your dog is very photogenic.
Way way better images than a phone. Definitely :)
Hey, Mattias. Thanks for your vids. How does it compare in size with the Ricoh GRIII o GRIIIx? I would buy these if the screen was tiltable... I've found an used for 669€ which I think is quite expensive but the Ricoh moves around 850€ too...
It’s bigger and noticeably heavier.
I went for a ricoh gr, the version v (without wifi). The x70 is just not as pocketable, harder to hold, and the lens is actually not as sharp. Also cheaper.
I needed the screen. Without it I wouldn't have bought any of them. Both great cameras.
Fujifilm är bäst! Från att kört Canon i många år har jag haft Fujihus sen X-T1 kom.
Mattias Burling , many, many thanks for your input!
Which one to buy Fujifilm x70 vs xf10 .Which is better
X70. Bur it depends on the price.
Superb little camera, but mine is broken beyond economical repair. I'd buy another in a heartbeat if they were still in production, but instead I went "Panaleica" DL7 instead.
Panasonic LX100 II? Or the D-Lux?
Nice photos man!
amazing pictures!
Hey Mattias, loving your video's! Do you use any custom lightroom presets for your x70 photo's? Thanks
Thanks, no I do all kinds of tweaks and sometimes nothing.
Are all the photos you show us directly from the camera or post editing? Sorry i am a beginner
Love all your review! Perhaps can you do holga 135tim review? Quite newbie about it plus no one was helpful on youtube😣
Sorry to hear but I dont have one. What is it that you wonder?
Mattias Burling it has two lenses, so im not really sure how to use it and havent print the film yett. It has double exposure and etc bought the cam but the manuals are in Chinese! Smh 😅
The two lenses are most likely just two different focal lengths, in other words, how zoomed in the images are.
Mattias Burling ouhh i see, thankss! How bout the N & B button besides the lense 🤔🤔
Thanks, yes its all with the X70. Its AF is slow but with the 18mm you can get very deep focus zones. So in other words the time to focus is 0 :)
2:12 That really looks like the shore near the Lappis Campus (Lappkarsberged) :D
How many mornings I spenmt there last summer
Its not the same place but I guess it doesn't matter if it awakened happy memories :)
Hi Mattias. I just got a new x70 and like it a lot. I noticed however that the power switch is very loose and wobbles quite a bit. If you place a fingernail under the switch and lift the entire thing comes up a good amount and feels poorly attached. Have you run into that with yours or do you know others who have mentioned this?
That doesn't sound right. I would return it and get a new one. bummer
Can you give some tips on jpeg settings simulations to get most out of mobile editing like snapseed?
