    I miss the days Lindon and Imladris were their own factions. I fully understand why they had to be merged; no getting around faction and unit limits. Rivendell being THE small start, super few but super elite units faction was really unique. Dealing with the goblins, the other end of the quality vs quantity spectrum, was interesting. If the day comes that the faction and/or unit limit can be circumvented and the mod team is willing; I would like to see the two separated again.

      I think the ago mod changed the engine to increase the faction count and unit cards, it says so on the site for the mod, so it might be possible in the future

    Leaving Cirdan in Mithlond is a massive waste of a regenerating unit of Mithlond Nobles. He may be expensive but he's worth it. You can just keep throwing him into the fray, letting his unit take the casualties to keep your other units alive. Letting his unit take losses keeps the upkeep cost down and he'll regenerate up to 77 between battles. Expansion-wise you're better off rushing Barza-dûm and keeping it. The mines are essential for your economy, far more useful than Undertowers or Perth-en-Lhûn.

    8:55 Ive been playing since v.0.5 and im almost 100% sure that Dornornoston was always a generic Bodyguard. You always started the campaign with him so thats why people started to get attached to him.

    The High Elves' biggest weakness is not armor piercing... They have very solid javelins and 2 mainline infantry with armor piercing which is more than enough, and other units with very high attack that negates the need for armor piercing against most targets. Their biggest weakness is actually the fact that they really don't have any tier 1 units as their actual tier 1 units are basically any other factions' tier 2 and so on, which means all their units are very expensive and very slow to recruit(and replenish in the recruitment pool), thus they're very vulnerable to swarming as all their stats become much less impressive when being hit from the sides and back where their shield and defense skill stats become irrelevant.
    Oddly enough it's actually factions like the Goblins that give the High Elves the most trouble as they simply don't have an efficient way to deal with hordes and hordes of trash, especially trash archers who will simply win skirmish duels due to sheer numbers and the fact that archers generally don't have shields and defense skill doesn't come into play against arrows. I mean sure you can shoot and scoot all you want, but you will run out of arrows long before you will kill all the enemy archers so eventually they'll get to shoot back and when they do you will lose archers. Same deal with melee, while you will easily win any 1 on 1 engagement, it's not even close, once your 1 infantry unit gets swarmed on all sides and gets constantly struck from the sides and rear than you will begin to take losses, even against utter garbage units. Maybe not like Snagga infantry as they'll barely scratch your armor even from the back, but most things better than that will get some damage in and the numbers will guarantee you will take losses. Losses which are much harder for the Elves to replenish than for the Goblins, or any other faction relying on hordes of trash.
    Similarly the faction they're actually best against is the Dwarves as your troops do out-scale them and you have the mobility on top to be able to dictate the engagements and of course cavalry. Dwarven units are almost as expensive as Elven ones so you'll be dealing with similar numbers, at which point your superior quality as well as flexibility(more unit types available) will easily carry the day for you. It's a shame you rarely need to fight against the Dwarves as the High Elves unless doing a Total War(as in declare war on the entire world) campaign or something. It's actually for that reason why when I play as the High Elves I actually want Ered Luin to take the ring as it gives me a legitimate reason to fight and kill them, ideally after they already built the vaults in Buzra Dum. Ered Luin is simply no match for your High Elf army, especially since as the player you should have expanded more than Ered Luin AI(even on VH/VH) ever does, so you will actually have the numbers advantage too, not that you'll need it.

      If fighting against goblins a good old fashioned cavalry cleanup of all the trash do the trick. Just don’t get your cavalry to be shot by your own archers

    I hoped for 2 capitals for HE more than for double faction leader as 2 leaders makes no difference form gameplay perspective and 2 capitals would remove penalty for expanding in the east (or west if you make Rivendell capital) and you have expand there if you want you cut off goblin spam.

    10:34 I've had the same experience. The dwarves almost always accept the ring for me, though I do play as the high elves a lot so maybe it's scripted to be more likely for them to give them a more powerful enemy in the west. I think the only times they haven't taken the ring have been when I've been playing as other factions.

    Isengard, High Elves, and now Reunites Kingdom are my go to factions for world conquest campaigns, in that order for favorites for that sort of play through. Any knowledge of any planned features in later versions for the HE? Like extra flavor scripts etc.
    I miss the Noretirno units for the Imladris faction.

      Forget about holding Foldburg or the River Isen. Hornburg has a good garrison by itself, so go to Gineard. Use gamling and Hama to take Fangorn camp to funnel their unit stream from only the west. Use scouts and a couple peasants to attack their armies, peasants to aggro most of their units, and use your scouts to knock out their archers and straggler infantry. Withdraw the scouts when you’ve done all the damage you can. Yes at risk of being attacked the next turn but they are just scouts. Once you have about 11-13 rohirrim/archers/skirms with a good general, make sure to have 3-4 peasants with it too if you’re still defending. Not as an anvil, but again to aggro some of their units while you micro the cavalry. I tend to keep my melee cav way out of the way until all missiles are spent. Focus down pikes first of course, then go for spears. Skirms for pikes half orcs wargs and bodyguard only. Once you’re down to just cavalry, make sure to completely envelop units before charging. The morale hit on top of the charge is where you win. You must not turtle, they will out produce you the first 20 turns. I hardly ever train any infantry other than peasants in those first 20 turns, focusing on building stables everywhere to churn out rohirrim units. The first 2-3 armies Isengard sends are a mixture of trained and scripted armies. When those are gone you will win. If you lose Gineard without having taken fangorn camp and the two rebel settlements, start over.

    Do you know anything about the Military Garrison buildings not working? When I got invaded by the Adunaim, none of the units deployed that were supposed to when I got attacked! Those units were a key part of my strategy against the invasion! Please help!

      Unfortunately, those scripted assaults don't allow for the garrison building script to fire off before the attack happens.

    Every time I play, the Dwarves reject the rings 50/50, but they seem to ALWAYS do the opposite of Khand. If Dwarves go bad, Khand goes good. Probably just my luck.

      Ah I forgot about that. Yes it still happens around 90ish turns in. I can't quite recall the exact turn number, but there is a warning that gives you I believe either 4 or 8 turn notice prior to the invasion.

      ​@@КириллК-р5рwhy is it not safe? You just need to crush the invasion, make allian e with Ered Luin and make sure the Buzra dum is yours to be safe from Enedwaith. These 3 settlements are insanely profitable, on my 150 turn Mithlond generated more than 8k, mostly due to trade

    I am curious about the exact mechanism behind whether a Teleri barracks can be constructed in a settlement. My main confusion is the settlement of Guhuzanur. Based on what you describe here we should be able to build a Teleri barracks there. It appears to border the river Lhûn in at least one place, but a barracks cannot be built there. This is doubly confusing when looking at Perth-en-Lhûn. That settlement seems to fulfill the same circumstances as Guhuzanur, only boarding the river Lhûn, but a barracks can be built there.

      I believe it should just be coastal regions and major named rivers such as the Anduin, Gwathlo etc, most of which are sailable. Apologies for the confusion.

    Very interesting thanks. Been away for a year or two but saw the message about v5 finally being completed and looking to see about guides I saw the message that AG had handed in his retirement so to speak but this was in the list of files that came up so sounds like I have a few evenings ahead. :)
    One question in that with the Corsairs invasion what they were talking about a year or two back was that as well as the warning strike at the place on the Grey flood there would also be attacks against either/both other starting settlements in Lindon the turn before the attack on Mithlond. Is that still the case as that does mean you have to defend those to avoid losing them.
    Anyway many thanks and looking forward to reading the other faction overviews.

    Is there a way to manually trigger the Ered Luin script? Started 3 times as the Ñoldor and would love to fight them, but they never take the rings. (I’m trying to roleplay so I don’t want to declare war if not)

    I must say that I think the merging of the Imladris and Mithlond factions was the single biggest design mistake the project has ever made overall.
    Imladris was a the perfect small start from where you could build in any direction, wide or tall, deep or outwards, and make your own successes or failures free of burdens from your starting position being some large empire in need of management or having some gigantic enemy faction pressuring you instantly. You were in a position to try and build an empire of *exactly* whatever size you wanted, use your resources for only *exactly* what you wanted them for, effectively giving the player the ability to shape their gameplay experience precisely after their playstyle.
    Build up only a few strongholds as invincible bastions? You could do that.
    Expand quickly and spread yourself thin in exchange for more territory and kingdom? You could do that.
    Bunker up and focus on building only Imladris in the face of orc invasions? You could do that.
    Imladris used to start you off with 1 good city, your leader and some generals, a small band of elite-but-hard-to-train-and-replace units, now go do your thing for good or ill.
    ALL of that is lost with the merging of the factions. Now you have this huge sprawling empire to manage and defend from turn 1 with no choice in having built it, you have no real stakes in Imladris anymore since losing it no longer means losing the campaign and *arguably* you're better off *letting* Imladris be lost because then you don't have to micro-manage it and fiddle around with having *one* obnoxious-ass settlement just completely removed from your kingdom living in its own bubble just for you to occasionally check in on.
    Imladris used to be *the* best campaign to play, but now it's the most annoying of all and I hate it. Please consider changing it back to being not terrible.

      You do realize that you can still do that, right...? If all you want is to focus on Imladris than simply ignore your other 3 cities and let them fall to whoever will attack them first. The fact that you get a few extra provinces doesn't mean you must defend them all if you don't want to.

    When would you use the secondary attack for the cavalry ? I’ve never seen this feature until it was pointed out to me in this video

      After the initial charge is over any cavalry unit still fighting in melee, with a secondary weapon available, switches to it. Note that not all cavalry units have secondary weapons, only those carrying a spear/lance do. Other cavalry units already use a sword/axe/etc as their main weapon so there's no need to switch to another.

      @@AdamBachman-w9j Hard to say due to how the animations affect the flow of battle and the lack of stats for variables like attack speed. Also since it's automatic and outside of the player's control, beneficial or not it is what it is.

    why is the recruit time so fking long in the game ? I mean I udnerstand vanilla is too fast especially for LotR but damn, 15 turns for a random elven/dwarven unit ? chill

      You don't want to know how log it takes to replenishe units in AGO, also 15 turns for elite elves is not bad. I only wished that upkeep costs were reduced.

      I will give you tip - rebuild barracks for instant refill. With that you are down to 5 turn per basic units. Build max Mason hall first. It totally possible to outnumber Orcs as elves not only in unit count but also model count by turn 20-30. It is actually kind of hillarious playing as Elventide.

      @@maximusd26 Only works well for initial buildings, which cost around 1000-1500. building cost reduction can be maxed around 50% for most factions. destroying also brings huge portion of investment back. Recruitment cost is more of an issue if anything.

    I have an issue with the HE : I have never got the third tier of the military guild in any campain I ve played. The only upgrade I have is the master guild but how do we get the last one please ?

      The third tier of any guild is once per world, so if another faction got it before you than there is no way for you to get it. That's what typically happens as the AI gets guild points(to spawn the guilds) much quicker than the player so you can realistically only level up any guild that's not unique to a specific faction(not sure there even is one) to level 2(which is once per faction as opposed to once per world). So the only way for the human player to get any of the guilds to level 3 is to conquer a province that the AI built it in.

      Very Hard/Very Hard is what this mod is set up for I believe. I tend to go easier if I'm playing as weaker nations like Enedwaith or Goblins but it doesn't make THAT much difference really
