Just get a 500 dollar katana and study the blade. Duh
Who’s not going to get Randy Jackson’s autograph
Just don’t be studying at a motel in Tucson.
How else are you going to get a donut op. Video
This channel does firearm content, not LARPING.
This is the way.
Do both a $750 and $1000 video. Small increments make a big difference for people trying to save money. They might stretch a little if they think it might be worth it. Great video, thanks!
Or maybe $800 and $1200.
Seconded. I’d like to see videos in $250 increments up to maybe $1500
comment
At these higher price points, a 3-gun arsenal would be cool, in addition to the 2-gun recommendations provided originally. It'll still be pretty difficult to not select the Maverick 88 for a shotgun for many of those price points, though.
Yeah that’s a good idea to maybe help people out of the poor mindset who is able to save a little longer.
That's the smoothest I've ever heard Clint Smith's voice
He must have coughed up some of that gravel
he sounds like RFK, if RFK wasnt a gun grabbing commie...

6 pack of smoke grenades, 6 pack of flash bangs, 6 pack of PBRs, and a musket with triangle bayonet. The way the founding fathers intended.
grapeshot cannon at the top of the stairs. tally ho lads
Bro come on! Why you telling my load out to the internet!😂❤
6 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon?
You shooting a musket won’t need smoke grenades.
Sounds like party time.
Just gonna take a moment to say its crazy how much James has improved running pump guns over the years.
Agree. Makes me want to visit Uncle Clint.
The dude has run thousands of rounds through them just doing his 500 rd torture test runs let alone recreational shooting and the training courses he's done. Yeah, during a zombie apocalypse, I'd want him on my team as a designated boomstick operator. 😊
It's like every Turkish shotgun he destroys he gets stronger.
Yeah he was running that thing pretty well
Maverick 88 and Dagger 9mm
Thats what I thought it was gonna be
Id rather have a Taurus G3C
S&W SD9 2.0 and a Remington 870 for me!!
My thoughts exactly
The Maverick 88 runs like a mofo!
Uncle Clint says that a shotgun is your golf bag. The ammo is your club.
Right club for the right situation for the desired outcome.
That's why i have a combo of slugs and buckshot lol
I think that you and Hop should go head to head with a $1000 concealed carry setup - that includes gun, holster, belt - and then switch off like you did in the AR15 build series
This is an excellent idea. Except James will probably cheat.
This idea. Make it happen Reeves!
I don't think Hop is with TFBTV anymore. He hasn't posted a video here since Shot Show three months ago.
$1000 CC for Hop is pretty Gucci. Give him that price and he'd might send James a stubby PTR 91 (sans stock), home-made appendix holster and taped-on kaleidoscope for a sight. That or a triple appendix holster with three Hi-Points. Fastest reload is another loaded gun!
And then give away or raffle off the two setups to assist us poors 😮
Taurus Judge and Red Ryder BB gun for sure
I quoted the famous line from A Christmas Story and UA-cam censored it 🙄
Lol there it is! $500 on a pistol and a shotgun? Nah just give me a pistol that shoots shotgun shells. Does it work as well? No, but that wasn't mentioned in the parameters
" You'll shoot your eye out "
Got to watch out with that Taurus, depending on where you live it has become an Assault Weapon, Cylinder fed shotgun don't cha know!
The judge isn't a bad choice just for the fact of being able to run 2 different calibers and 1 guage.
Stoeger STR9 + holster, Maverick 88, Crickett 22lr. And I'm spent until the Stoeger rebate comes in, then I'll have $50 for ammo. BAM!!
The cheap M88s seem to be all gone. And I think no collection is complete without a 22, you are going to be able to get so much practice in to become a better marksman and they're just fun, minimal hearing protection will suffice, it's a rifle you can typically use on handgun ranges.
So something has got to give, what is it. There's really no cheaper handgun options that aren't shameful (no hi point, just... no) and handgun shooting is just a completely different skill to develop. I think the only option left within the budget is to swap the Maverick out for a single shot 12 gauge which I know isn't ideal but it's still a 12 gauge, it's a one-shot-stop machine.
$500 doesn't buy a lot of guns these days but I think that would be a great start, it's developing your skills with a handgun, your skills with a rifle and you can get some inoculation against heavy recoil shooting the shotgun.
@@Treblaineno the 88 is still being manufactured. Hype beasts who've taken their entire lives for granted, and are NOW finally arming themselves have raped the entire market and left almost nothing. So that's probably what you're seeing. If not then get a Stevens 320 or citadel
@arsgamer Good list
I got my STR9 sc last year and got my rebate back in like 2 months. Stay dangerous yall
@Slugonthese thanks, wouldn't have it any other way
Mossberg Maverick 88 and a PSA dagger here. I am an FFL and gunsmith, I am constantly recommending both of those. If you need a deer rifle swap out the Maverick for a Savage Axis. If you want a semi-auto rifle get a 10/22, if you want a revolver the m206 or EAA Windicator.
Back when I worked for BPS you could get an Axis and a scope for like $400; it's not a great scope but any scope is better than no optic. It's my go-to budget boltgun still.
Thats literally my setup! I bought a used Mav88 a year ago for $175 & a P10 C OR for $349 four months ago. Among many other firearms of course. 🔫🔥
Let’s get that $10,000 arsenal! Maybe James can convince Brandon Herrera to market the AK50 at under $10k?
For 10,000 I know where a semiauto ma Duce is, I’ll just go that route.
1. PSA Daggar Compact. If you buy the slide and frame separately, you can get it for $300.
2. Maverick 88 12 gauge around $200
Why would you touch a PSA when you get get a S&W or CZ for the same price?
@johnrobinson1328 That's what everyone said about your mum until your dad said "hold my beer" and *poof* here you are 😂
Plentiful Glock Mags, Plentiful Glock and Aftermarket Parts and they Run!!!
@@johnrobinson1328 Runs Glock Mags and has Gen 3parts compatibility.
I have owned 3 Glocks, 1 Dagger and 2 CZ P10 series guns. The P10 series is a better gun than ALL of them including my gen 5 Glock 19x and one of my CZ's was cheaper than the $300 dagger I got because I bought the dagger slide and frame separate and it was a memorial day special. Yeah, that's right. I got a brand new P10C for $280 with coupon and it is twice the gun that a dagger is and a little better than a gen 5 Glock because the trigger is better and its just as reliable and durable.
I am one of the million viewers who went out and bought a Maverick 88 based on that burn down video. I had to pay two fiddy for mine though. It runs everything I throw at it except it doesn't like to eject some Fiocchi I tried (translucent shells that even feel weird... I have some Rio that is similar) and 3" slugs are _brutal_ because it's so light (adding another 2 dollars to the budget for some sand to fill the stock and some epoxy to seal it in would help).
IMO, even with the extra fifty bucks against it, it's the perfect ghetto blaster. A good call by TFB. 👍
Did the same thing
I had gotten mine a couple months before said video and have never felt such validation on a purchase in my life. $199+tax and transfer. And you’re right about that recoil on those high brass shells, kicks like a government mule.
@@waylongroves200 2 3/4" 00 and slugs in it is unpleasant, but doable... 3" slugs approach the category of "not recommended", IMO. 😂
That said, I'm confident in the gun eating whatever the shooter cares to endure, and that's what counts.
I bought one in the early 2000’s for 110$. Have shot it several times until my shoulder was literally bleeding. Has ate thousands upon thousands of rounds. Unplugged halogen bulbs from flashlights, i run led now. Been drug out in the rain through the mud, and left in my boat and behind the seat of my truck. It has only been cleaned 3 times other than wiping the external muck off it. It has never malfunctioned. Best 110$ i ever spent. His burn down test did not even begin to break that thing in. There is one flaw in the design that if you slam it down on its side it can dislodge the lifter mechanisim. Once that happens if you jack the pump back aggressively it will lock up tighter than a snare drum rendering it a club. But it is a really good shotgun…. Especially for the price point.
I wish they could make a pump rifle based on the maverick 88 with some parts interchangebility, for people who can't afford an AR-15 or live in a restrictive state. but it would be in 5.56 and take STANAG mags instead of being tube fed 12 gauge.
Hypothetically it should be even cheaper than a maverick 88 because it could use lighter-duty parts because a 5.56 has less energy/recoil then a 12 gauge.
3:53 "...from hunting, to defending your dumpster" Almost spat out my coffee
"I doubt it"
Well I did
Love this channel. This guy - James - is pretty funny.
… “Five Hi Points… Thanks to our sponsors… Goodnight…” 😂😂
Maverick 88 and a rebated Beretta APX A1.
good luck getting your rebate from Beretta. Even Taurus is better at sending theirs out
James has the same attitude towards budget guns, as I do towards court ordered community service.
100% agree with the Maverick 88. I have owned one for a few years now. Got it for $189. My handgun with current prices would be the Ruger Security 9.
I've had a p10c for 3 years and love it. Around 3000 rounds and its only got better. 4.5 pound consistent trigger pull.
Yeah, I got one about a year ago with a July 4th special for a unreal deal and can't believe I have been wasting so much money on the 3 Glocks I have bought over the years.
I’m planning on getting one for my 21st in a couple of months, for $460 you can’t beat a suppressor ready handgun that’s currently in use with a NATO member’s military.
@@Ussr0312 $460??? You need to shop around more. You should be able to get a suppressor ready P10 series handgun for less than $400.
Do the gun budget live. Go with a friend to a local gun shop and play out the budget on the fly. Take turns and give yourself like 10 minutes to pick out a load-out. Make it a competition, have a third person decide who picked the better setup.
704 Tactical already does that.
Hey James it’s great your making more budget content, I think a great way to continue this is to try out a budget AR15. Primarily the Palmetto state armory PA-15 a 550-600$ mid length with magpul stock grip & M lock had rail with back up flip up irons. I’d love to see you test it.
Wow, all the necessary information compressed into 27 seconds. I am forever grateful for this, now I know everything I need.
Funny, I've been thinking about a P10C for a while now. Mossberg Persuader was under $200 when I bought it. Works every time!
Get it. Its literally better than a Glock for a fraction of the price.
While I understand that for the video, The "All New" parameter.
For a guy with only $500. The used market is the best place to get the most bang for those bucks. Your mileage may vary.
This is correct. If you have $500 to spend, that means $100 for a safe, $100 for ammunition, $50 for range gear, and $250 for a Taurus G2c with leopard print ceracote and a gold plated barrel.
@@CarolinaRimfire Dont think that is where I myself would go with it 😆 To each their own though.
Super true, got a police trade in 590 for 320 bucks and that was perfect for me, just enough cash for an optic and sling
@@Z3R0NU11 Pretty good price for a 590.
If a guy only had that one tool. He would be well equipped for the home or the woods.
But wheres the fun in only having one 😉👍
Bro the used guns market is shit MFs are asking for way to much
Great job on this video! It really helped me out. I appreciate it.
Thank you James. I always enjoy when you guys do these types of videos. As very long time subscriber, I would be very happy to see maybe a couple of other segments were you up your budget to 750 and maybe a 1000.
Your picks were spot on, though. Practical, and not gimmicky, or clickbait if I had to describe it. Both excellent firearms, and its nice to see people celebrating tools that dollars to donuts worth your hard-earned money.
Stoeger 9mm SC
Ruger 10/22
This is probably the best set realistically.
I want to see James and Hop do a pawn shop 3 gun challenge .
Absolutely a great idea to have future videos on different budget levels.
On point. Great picks.
I enjoy the concept. Definitely 1000 budget would be nice to see. I would like to see more rifle build competitions between you and Hop. I love those.
These two and add a PSA AR15
@dannysmith9882 💯. Covers most bases outside of long range very efficiently.
James is really out here exposing the secret of gun deals. Thanks a lot bro
The really good deals go out in minutes already, unless the death hug hits.
G2C $169, for conceal carry
ATI Nomad 12 Gauge $99 for hunting bird and larger game
Ruger 10/22 $249.00 for plinking, and small game hunting
Thoughts? There were some other combos I was thinking of, but this would cover most of the bases and give you more diversity across the different platforms.
I can provide where I found those prices as well.
where?
Sportsman Outdoors Had the G2C
Ati Nomad was AIM Surplus
Ruger 10/22 was PSA
Nice!! My first two thoughts were the CZ P10 and the Mossberg Maverick 88!!

Back in The Day!!!
After nearly a year of Walther P99 Final Editions selling for around $800, supply had begun to exceed demand.
These can now be found for around $550. IMHO, that's currently the BEST handgun deal to be found.
based P99 enjoyer
Where are you finding them for 550? Need it
@N00btube296
Keep an eye on Gun Broker.
A few Gen 1s sold for $501 this past week.
A Final Edition sold for $601 on 4-25.
Have to watch and wait for one not being bid up.
@@jamescampbell4334 thanks
James, you did it again. Informative and had me laughing my ass off while doing so. Thanks man. I must watch once more to catch what that mixed drink you mentioned was. Do not think I have heard of that one.
I forgot how much I love the paint job on that Maverick. May have to do my 500 that way.
If I only had $500, I'd go with a Maverick 88 and a Rock Island Armory 206 .38 special revolver. I have had good experiences with both.
Take a look at the Tisas Px-9 Carry. $285 before tax, shipping. Optics ready, cowitnesses with no plate needed, two mags, high quality carry case. Awesome pistol!
Great picks JR!
I have 2 Mavericks, long and short. Surprisingly smooth action.
I’d probably go with a PSA Dagger over the S&W, to have the option tap into the wealth of aftermarket Glock mags and accessories down the road.
Maverick 88 is certainly the most capable home defense long gun in that price range, but for purposes of this scenario I’d choose a Ruger 10/22 instead. 1- The ammo is way more affordable, and if we’re in a $500 budget situation, the ammo budget is also presumably very slim, and stretches much farther for a 22 than a 12 gauge. 2- low recoil. The recoil of a shotgun can be a bit much for some shooters, which may cause them to neglect going out and getting proficient with their firearm. For your main home defense firearm, that’s not good.
So let the 22 be for fun and getting used to firearms and building good habits, and have the 9mm do double duty for both concealed carry and home defense.
Out of the box the Dagger looks good but I've seen enough durability tests to take a pass on it. Don't want it to fail when it comes time to actually need it to save my life.
Maverick 88 and PSA Dagger
Your show's are the best !
Thanks for your contribution
Cool video
Dude nailed it. Czp10c is the best striker fired gun around and can be had for this crazy low price and is quality. Not Taurus wannabe or PSA or…it’s top notch.
I’ve shot both and the dagger has a better trigger for sure
@@Gkk45624I’ve heard that the dagger has some qc issues
I'm today years old of hearing about it, miss my 75's & SP01's, kicking myself in the ass for getting rid of my Phantom.
Yes and I got mine for $280 with a coupon. I have had many Glocks and have realized I have been wasting a lot of money on Glocks as the trigger is better and the CZ is just as durable and reliable.
@@Gkk45624you're nuts. I own both and the dagger trigger is garbage while my P10C trigger is better than a Glock gen 5 trigger. Please link a credible gun tuber here on UA-cam that says the dagger trigger is good. I'll wait.
Excellent choices 🤘🤘
I paid$ 189 for my M88 at KYGunCo a little more than a year ago. Right now, thanks to your aggressive promotion, it retails for above 200$.
My budget handgun choice is the Stoeger STR-9SC. Got it for 180$ before last Xmas and shoots very well. Way above 1k rds through it and totally reliable. Leaves me some dough for a holster, 2 extra mags and a good belt. 😀

maverick 88 shotgun , any Canik , and no not the sccy or hipoint , have them and they are only tackle box last resort to a rock guns. Taurus G3 series is also super reliable and accurate.
Sccy is the only gun I bought that was trash. Started failing after 100 rounds. There's a reason they're so cheap and on sale all the ti.e, cuz they're shit.
Canik yes
@@kyrozudesoya1829 Wow what model did you have? I narrowed my choice between an Sccy CPX-2 Gen 3 vs Canik MC9. Was leaning towards the Sccy because it felt so much better in my hand and love the DAO trigger for carry.
@@gracedagostino5231 Dude do not get one. Spend the money and get a g3c or gx4 if you can minimum. Get anything over the sccy..
Also psa black Friday deals for cheap AR parts with free shipping. I have a DD, LaRue, and a PSA AR and the first 2 are much nicer finish feel with great accuracy but the psa is still a reliable milspec for the money. If you're really hard up the Taurus g2c is dirt cheap now as they push out old inv and was my first gun. Put thousands of rounds through it no malfunctions. Just don't get a hi point.
Maverick 88 was my first 12g and i absolutely fell in love. It works….
you da man, James and TFB krewe.
Stoeger STR9 + Maverick 88
Would save a little $ for the combo barrel that way.
Maverick 88 & Canik Elite SC.
Top Gear once did a US vacation special where they came here, bought vehicles for less than the cost of renting, beat the piss out of them then tried to re sell them. I think this concept could be re- imagined for guns and that would be pretty neat

More than a decade ago I bought a $150 (maybe it was $175) Chinese ‘Sun City’ pump shotgun with the plan of, I’ll shoot it until it breaks then get a nicer brand name Remington or Mossberg.
Years later it will not die. It has never failed to fire, it has never failed to eject a spent shell. The only time it doesn’t go bang is when the operator short-racks it.
I have never done any maintenance beyond running a bore snake every couple boxes of shells and wiping it down with Hoppes to keep it from rusting.
Buy a Masada Slim 9mm for $400 or less
Spot on!! I have both!!
That was excellent, I will be ordering a Maverick 88 - Security/Field Combo. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
The Mossberg Maverick is the only correct long gun, got to disagree with the Compact 9mm. I’m a normal guy, with a regular Job, need a gun that I can carry everyday, that means even in non permissive environments, so the Ruger LCP Max is my handgun choice.

I like the concept of this vid and agree with the pics. Still as a "experienced" owner I would want to see a version of this where You speak more in terms of "complete weapon systems" setups for a price point. That IMO set's up a more realistic expectation of budget for every level of consumer. I always tell friends that choosing a firearm is the easy part, sorting out all the additional stuff like holsters, magazines, lights and optics, training & defense ammo, peripherals, safe storage devices, range bags/carry cases & cleaning kit can quickly double to quintuple the actual final total dollars spent. I recall the first time a friend brought his brand new shotgun to a range with no carry bag & had the tube pre loaded ... the RSO nearly turned purple seeing that lol
