Very, very, *VERY* loosely based on the true story of Theodore Coneys, who in 1941 hid in the home of an old acquaintance in the Denver area. His hideout was in a small attic cubby hole, only accessible through a trapdoor "two and a half times the size of a cigar-box kid". In October, he was surprised by the owner of the home, who didn't recognize him, and he killed the owner. When police searched the home, they noticed the trapdoor, but believed it to be too small for a man to crawl through. The owner's widow, believing the sounds of Coney moving around at night to be a sign that the house was haunted, moved out and left the house vacant. Coneys stayed in the home until July of 1942, but the police responded to a call of a mysterious light at the vacant house and Coneys was caught because the responding officers heard him moving in the attic and arrived in time to see his feet going through the trapdoor that he was supposedly too large for. He was arrested, and despite an attempt at the insanity defense, was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

Can I just say I appreciate you two calling out the good lighting. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the difference between a movie that looks like low budget shlock and one that looks like a truly professional movie comes down to two things: Lighting and color grading. If you nail those, everything else to the look is secondary.

Even beyond the noise carrying through the floor as you mention (are the upstairs neighbors casually walking to the fridge or juggling bowling balls badly? You'll never know: you live in an apartment), there are so many little details that indicate the people making this were either incredibly out-of-touch, or the phrase "no one will notice, we just have to finish this draft" was said a LOT in the writer's room.

How do Mimi Rogers and her husband fail to notice that the outside and the inside of their newly built house don't match up? How? They don't notice that apparently there are less windows on the inside than they can see from their front lawn? It doesn't bother them that their attic room is a lot shorter than it should be? They don't realise that their new home doesn't have the dimensions they ordered?

Busey had his accident a few days after the filming for this movie was wrapped up in late 1988. All footage of him in the movie is from before he suffered his head injury. Allison briefly mentions it in the video. It took almost a year after that to get the movie theatrically released in Europe - and almost three years for a VHS release in the US.
Pre-motorcycle-accident Busey wasn't exactly all that "normal" either. He has always been marching to the beat of a different drummer than most other people.

Honestly, Hider in the House makes more sense with Chucky in da House lyrics.
    “[Warn] your girlfriend
    [Warn] your spouse
Tell all the homies there’s a Hider in the House.”

Hider in the House almost sounds like a bad translation for a foreign release Haha

Hider in the House and Watcher in the Woods always felt to me like they should be related.

me! me! I'm that one other person that gets the Big Wolf and Fizzy Business references! 😍......that made me really happy, lol
I have also learned from personal experience that raccoons in the attic can sound like people walking around, so I doubt any attic-dwelling Buseys could go unnoticed...... I hope....

Bless the love for Big Wolf on Campus and learning they were also in a movie together. I know what I'm seeking out next movie night 🌙.

First of all, you are both adorable. Second, I have been singing "Hider in the House" to the tune of Beauty and the Beast to myself for the past two months since I saw your video 😂😂😂😂

All these "hiders in the walls"
movies owe their origins to "Bad Ronald" by sf/mystery master Jack Vance.

16:27 - Holy crap! I remember Bad Ronald, they use to play it all the time on TBS during the early 1990s... Usually before The Monster Club of all films!

I remember seeing this on TV when it first came out. At the time it was a pretty far fetched idea though we have seen multiple reports in the past few years (and an award winning movie) with people living in house unknown to the occupants.

This is one of my favorite over-the-top, cheesy 90s stalker "Creeper-fest" movies. Glad someone's reviewing it and taking the piss out of it. I still remember how the mother FINALLY gets a huge-huge hint-hint that something is wrong when she notices that the family goldfish, Oscar has been replaced and *isn't* Oscar. Like...THAT was the one thing to make you hands-down suspicious out of everything else? Also, that poor woman's got a creeper living in her house, a creeper from next door she is later indebted to because he did help her and her kids out from the even creepier guy, and a husband who just can't stop cheating. Future therapy for sure.

My favorite part of this video is that as if it wasn't funny enough, everyone in the comments is setting the title to song parodies. I'm laughing so hard I can barely breathe.
