At 2:15 you were looking right at Mt Whitney. Over 14,300 feet asl. I've flown my hang glider 2,000 feet over the top of it. I've stayed at Portuguese Joe camp ground. The best in Lone Pine is the BLM one Tuttle Creek. BLM campgrounds are cheap and your pass cuts the price in half. Free camping at Pine Creek. Up 395 about ten miles past Bishop and turn left at Pine Creek Road. Through the little community of Rovana and all the way up till it levels off in the trees. Watch for the PAVED left. Only paved a short distance. Campsites along the creek for quite a distance. The first few are the best. Lots of rock climbers tend to fill the place up though.
I’ve heard that due to some recent videos the Alabama Hills have become a popular destination! The popularity is due to multiple reasons including the familiar movie locations tours!Movies such as Gunga Din, The Great Race, Randolph Scott westerns, Hopalong Cassidy, Tremors the list is very long!
The irony is what has made places like Alabama Hills popular are ytbrs like this who seemingly all make the same videos of the same places. Not unlike many places in Arizona too.
@@mobiltec Yes, no doubt. Although, RVrs/campers who grew up rving/camping know the philosophy of "Leave no Trace" know about campfire rules, rules about stay limits and grew up respecting nature, learning how to keep places like this open. Whereas the influx of newbs who learn about this lifestyle thru ubiquitous videos, posts don't. Not all influencers/yttbrs teach or emphasize keeping these places clean and how one should leave it. They are partly responsible and have a responsibility to teach these rules in their videos. Sadly, everyone is learning the hard way.
WOW ⭐️What an amazing area you found there ! The mountain range AND a creek with cold 🥶 water ! Sounds awesome since it’s 100 in Phoenix today 🥵🔥 here we go …. So njoy that cooler area you’re in ! Looks amazing … Have Fun n Be safe 🌝 during the full moon shining brightly on ya there !
I’ve always wanted to go there, the Alabama Hills, as seen on UA-cam! Now that I’m able to travel again, no space! Well I guess I’ll just pass if there’s no boondocking because I just don’t like people/campgrounds 😁🤣😂 Very nice video, love the view of the mountains…love your calm demeanor! Cheers, Hike 🌵✌🏼
As you go higher in elevation, the warm 70 degrees will feel hotter because of the more clear atmosphere. You must drive through and/or stop/overnight in the June Lake area. And divert to Bodie! Suggest that you continue north on 395 all the way to Susanville, then head west to Lake Almanor, through to Mount Lassen.
Gas in Cali is most expensive, no doubt. But depending on where u shop, food doesn't have to be that high and electric bills can be free if y have solar, while selling excess energy back to the electric company. 😉
Yes, California is very expensive to live there. 5 years ago I lived in a Senior Mobile home park near Sacramento. Then my sewer hook up was $90.00/month then water and garbage on top of that. Tags for my 2014 car were over $200.00/year. Here in Albuquerque, NM I only pay $62.00/month for sewer, eater & garbage. Tags for 32 years are cheaper than Ca6for 1 year. Gas here is about $3.40/gallon. No bumper to bumper traffic and No triple digit heat here in ABQ.
Hi Matty, nice drive . People leaving trash Mess it up for so many responsible people. The gas prices in California are ridiculous. How sweet a campground with a creek. Looks very nice for a couple nights. Love the views
I am suppose to go there at the end of June first of July! My notifications had stopped from you. I have a lot catching up to do! Luv ya, love your channel❣️ 🏔️🚐🛣️🥾
1:00 mark That's Lone Pine Creek next to you, pretty good trout fishing. The mountains in front of you include "14ers", with Mt. Whitney on the right. Electric bills here in CA are sky high. Victor Davis Hanson discusses the political reasons for this (in short, by overcharging U, we are saving the Earth) I personally don't know if it's too early in the season, but June Lake Loop, North of you has many fantastic sites to camp and fish. I want to say the camping is often free. 6:03 This view shows the scary, snow covered road to Horseshoe Meadows (10k' parking lot) which leads to the Cottonwood Lakes basin. (It's too early in the season for this basin). 7:18 look how turbid the snowmelt is making that water. Oh well, I'll probably be up there Saturday for Fishmas, anyways
Awesome Matty. I really love it when you road trip videos. That's a beautiful spot. Stay safe out there lots of love and hugs to you and your friends. 🌻🌻🌻
Beautiful area it's on my bucket list. I do wish the gas prices would come down. Looks like you're enjoying yourself. You sound really happy. Safe travels to you and Yellow wolf.
😲 $18 for HF deli meat! That's crazy! I hear a lot people talking about gas prices are going to go up soon. 😞 I hope not. Take care. Have enough fun for us too.
Goodness! Y'all just finding the prettiest locations. This campsite is drop dead gorgeous. Except for the road being close, it just so beautiful with the Sierras and Alabama Hills in the background! I'd love listening to that gurgling creek! Have fun and thank you again! ☮️💜😊
I alwaya laugh at your jokes and say 'Oh here's Matty with the dad jokes again', but really the wholesome content is such a vibe and so enjoyable. Must be the TN gentleman in you. 😇 Really glad your channel is doing so well. Hope to meet you down the road someday. 🌞🌞
Beautiful drive. I am amazed that 43% of Americans are struggling to eat or pay rent, but they say our economy is doing well. More houseless every day and people are working full time without a home. I hear there are maybe 3 sites left in the Alabama Hills. But you have to drive way back past the day use. No signs letting you know till you get back there.
You are so correct! In the statement, "they say the economy it doing well", the "they" would be the media. The only thing the media tries to get right is the weather forecast, all else is mendacious. They fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time.
jealous wish I were there. Absolutely love the area. Check out hipcamp . You might find something close. As you get closer to the Yosemite area, I'm close, I'll send some places to check out. cheers as I live viciously through your travels. sorry third edit- don't get eyes and mouth in water. can't remember if it was last year but they found some bacteria in the water
Matty, you had Mt. Whitney in this video several times and didn't mention it. Hope you are able to explore more of the Eastern Sierra, its one of the most beautiful places on earth.
I'm a native Californian (Southern) & have never seen this before ... quite pretty. I would think the reason they've made camping restrictions is because of the increasing homelessness due to high rent, inflation, lack of jobs/layoffs. It's not easy to live here & I'm only able to as my mom's FT caregiver. After that ends, I'll have to live out if my car - for real!
yes those mountains are over 10000 ft. Mt Whitney is up there and it is 14505 ft. Yes I was up there two years ago and drove around the Alabama hills and couldn't find any overnight camping all day use. If you think that area is beautiful keep going north on 395, to Mammoth Lakes, June lake loop, and to Bridgeport. All areas I have spent many summer vacations as a child and adult.
Did you drive all the way up? Tuttle Creek Campground is awesome, and will be the first campground you drive by on the detour. I had a hard time leaving last fall. $10, $5 with America the Beautiful Pass. That said, the CG may not be open yet.
Matty, thanks for your videos I find them informative and also listening to your voice is quite calming. I also appreciate your humble honesty. I’m in the market for a clam type pop up shelter, I think you posted last year about a favorite alternative could you let me know the name? Safe and happy travels, Julie from New York 🙏🏽
Carson, Minden, Gardnerville food prices are much better, fill up in Nevada when you can. 395 is expensive, they are trying to control all the influx from SoCal.

The mountains behind you is Mount Whintey 14,505 feet.

@@JoshuaMartian-go3tm That's no excuse to leave garbage and trash all over the place.

Looks like Turtle campground is close to Potuguese Joe campground...as an alternative...$10 a night...just fyi. 83 spots there ...

Most of that 43 percent are addicted to drugs. That's why they are homeless.

Ansel Adams old stomping ground. I went in 2008
lone Pine has a great western movie museum, I highly recommend it. 😊
Great views 🎉
how to burn up your transmission at about 9:10 in the video. Jeep wranglers are not made to tow anything that large/heavy. (I wish they were).
You know, the Alabama Hills are Ray's favorite place!
There are re several 14,000' peaks in the Serra Nevada's that you were panning across I have climbed a couple 😊
this is beautiful. It seems like this is a good time of year to camp.not hot yet . No bugs...That creek is melted snow
i been to lone pine before and i did not see that mountain.
That thumbnail is so beautiful. Wow...this scenery.
Wow!! What a beautiful drive!!!!
View of Mt. Whitney.
Nice looking place.
Fun video Matty, most scenic ever thanks for sharing......
Im in Flagstaff right now and sooooo much of the forest is closed again

Lone Pine is a small town- prices are higher.
Beautiful country ~
Good informational video.
Beautiful scenery , the mountains are awesome! Such irresponsible people make it bad for everyone!
Just an FYI, those are the Sierra Nevada Mountains (not Sierra Mts).
80% I am jealous.

What is the road name where you did the detour? Im heading there next Saturday
Pass up spending all that money on lunch meat. Them squirrels lookin' mighty tasty.
Our country is falling apart. Its sad
As a nomad how do you make it to church? Just wondering
Hes in church out there, you can feel God out in nature. it brings out your soul
$14 p/n what a rip off....your all squashed in there like sardines with the main drag metres away from where you lay your head ~ outrageous!
California everything is expensive. Why go
All the drug tourists...
I call them Tweekers
I meant80 degrees😂😂😂
If everybody was smart we wouldn't get to see video of people falling into creeks. 😀
