Back in the day an unmanned F6F Hellcat drone was being tested at Point Mugu NAS in CA. It broke control with the ground and began to fly away uncontrollably. 2 of these planes in the video were scrambled to bring it down. Both of them fired all their rockets at it, and missed, and then returned home. The rockets landed in the desert and mountains and caused some damage, and the drone eventually ran out of fuel and crashed in the desert too. Cool video though

yup radio wave tests basically anythign to get rid of the only american issue when it coems to air superiority which is pilots lockeed made an unmanned fighter in the late 80s early 90s didnt gain traction tho i gaurentee they are working on a modern one rn

All rockets are a pain in the ass to aim. There are no unpained asses when rockets are in play. The ass pain to rocket ratio is always very high.

Exclusively used by National Guard IRL, where its payload coupled with automatic fire control was expected to blat soviet bomber streams from the sky. In practice only time the fired in anger was to stop a drone F6F. The fire control radar couldnt pick it up so the pilots tried to hit it manually without a sight, and missed.
Probably one of the vehicles that only high skill players should think of buying.
I don’t think myself the highly skilled type, I got this thing a 2-3 years and have slowly been improving.
Adjusting loft to fire at different ranges is easy, the hard part is in a dogfight/any turning engagement. Naturally though you do get good enough to either eyeball it or adjust fire on the go for more accurate solutions.

Finally! Someone makes a new video on this sleeper. It packs a punch in head ons, it can obliterate bombers and is very much a turn off your brain and rocket spam plane.
I like to use the F-89B for precision fighting and anti tank but if I feel brain dead I take the F-89D out for a spin.

I recently purchased it after my f89b since it was on sale, and although it’s climb rate isn’t as good, still sufficient to boom n zoom n scoot back to base after using all your rockets on 1 tank lol 😢

it has air burst rockets, it's 100% made to be used in air RB :)))
Recommend you use it in anti air role. The F-89D in game gets proximity fuse rockets, very easy to aim and very fun to mag dump, use the F-89B (the one with cannons )for anti tank operations, it’s best belt is armoured targets.

Pro Tip: set the weapon convergence to 200 meters, and the rockets will fly more towards the target, and their trajectory will change - they will be fired higher.
overall, both of these planes are terrible. Supposedly fast, but you can't use it because the structure of the entire airframe is too weak. additionally, both F89s completely stiffen. Above 650 km/h it is barely controllable and hitting anything is a miracle. Any damage to the fuselage or wings, even a small one, makes further flight practically impossible. I have both F89B and F89D and this is my biggest mistake and blooper in War Thunder. In general, I dare not recommend it to anyone.
Yea the F-89 isn’t the best. Using it for a while made me better at jets though. I feel unstoppable in the F-80.
Would make sense considering you are going from a complete piece of dogsh*t glorified flying brick, to a dainty little arrow of death with nearly unmatched maneuverability

It's a shit plane, most people can't aim, all it can do is go somewhat fast and has decent acceleration. And it locks up at like 700kmph, so yeah.

this is my most played plane and I gotta say the RNG is insane. Sometimes I snipe people from 2km sometimes the proximity fuze explodes near them and doesnt do any dmg while it somehow teamkills
Bought both of them the day they came out, my hometown has a park with a F-89B on concrete stilts with Idaho ANG livery, warthunder added the planes and the Idaho ANG skin and I had to have them
