I love how after 22 years they just picked it up where they left off and went full send.
I love it. Why wouldn't they? They have such an addictive sound, the low end on the guitar is nearly exactly the same
@@SNESdrunk wow man, I'm a long time HUM fan and have also been watching your videos for years, I'm an avid classic gamer/collector. This is the crossover I didn't expect but totally welcome!
Exactly!!
Didn't know anything about this until a year or more later. It was just in time, right when I didn't know I needed it.
Rush
RIP Bryan.
He was 52. Goddamn it what is happening
I'm in my 30's. I grew up loving the Deftones. Years later a friend introduced me to Failure. A few years back I found myself remembering another band I enjoyed in high school called Hopesfall. After finding some of their stuff on UA-cam I revisited some great songs and fell in love with their newest release: Arbiter, then one day the algorithm led me to Hum. I couldn't believe I'd never heard of these guys. They are amazing and they seem to be the connective tissue that binds all the other bands together. I absolutely adore their music and I wish I'd been supporting them all these years. Better late than never! Thank you guys for making great music.
You have amazing taste in music, sir. I rocked Fantastic Planet and Around the Fur religiously when they dropped, and still do at 42 years old. It's timeless.
@@Phoenix_2A Thank you for the compliment! Obviously, I think you have great taste as well :)
@@hopefulpellinore5490 deftones are super into hum. hum definitely paved way for a lot of bands and failure as well. if you want something else to check out that is similar.. - loathe, vexes, Thornhill. all a great blend of deftones, hum, and a tiny bit of failure inspired.
Doggie! I'm 43 yrs old and I'm impressed by your music taste! All great bands! I'm not surprised that you hadn't heard hum. I'll never forget when "stars" came out. I was 16ish and it stuck with me but never became a hit. Dig is another 90s band that never got big and I love them too!
@@MrDballah Thank you for the kind words! I'm so pleased to be able to talk with others about the bands we love, my direct friends have rarely shared my tastes haha. I'll check out Dig! Thank you!
18.09.2023. Dear diary. Thank you, the universe, that I was rendomised to exist so I can witness this musical album. I'm ready for oblivion now. Namaste

RIP Brian, thank you for leaving us with this masterpiece
The more I listen to this, the more I'm convinced it's their best album by far.
1000% AGREED
and you aren't wrong at all!
Agree,and the rest is Brilliant.
True but some of their songs are drawn out maybe?
@@DivineCruelty666 that's a shoegaze edge
Pretty sure this album saved me
Breath of fresh air during claustrophobic times.
I had been broken up with, lost my job, home, and car, and was back with my parents (thankfully) after all was said done..this album came out shortly sometime after and it really helped me get the fuck up. I know its a meme but this is one album/band I can truly say that saved my life. Much love.
Absolutely.
You saved yourself
This album is still unreal even a year later. Definitely a cruise or study album for me when I want something to hit but moving at the same time. RIP to their drummer though he kicked ass... Hum definitely is criminally underrated for all their talent.
Feel the same man, this album is a masterpiece and just what I need to hear. It’s incredible.
Oh no thats a damn shame about the drummer, just discovered this band.
Yup my thoughts as well! I've been playing this entire album on drums for a year now, that's sad. I love the drums on this, it inspired me to pick my sticks back up!
Very well said. Such tasteful pummeling from Bryan. He will be sorely missed.
bryan st pere was an absolute beast of a drummer
23:54
This lead melts my heart literally every time I hear it. I feel so sorry for the billions of people that will go their whole lives without experiencing music like this.
It is a beautiful lead. Sounds transcendent.
It's epic and FITS so well with their sound and the time that has passed between records. They are such a wonderful band.
Just sat down and listened to an hour long album for the first time in… a decade?
You should do that more often buddy, it's therapeutic.
I was angry for about 4 seconds because I didn't know about this until right now, but god damn it is so nice to hear that guitar sound again. So satisfying
Glad to hear you love Hum, SNESdrunk
Every once in a while, a band just absolutely kills it. This is one of those times. A perfect progression of a landmark band. Buy this album.
Amazing album.
Amazing absolute unit
they came back after over 20 years hiatus and this album (to me) is equally as good or better as anything they've done.
it's a masterwork guitar layering extended vibe experience that you listen to over and over again to just "float" along and immerge into.
During the 2020-2021 holiday season, I had been listening to this album for a few weeks and it had been growing on me. I had always loved Hum, and it was such a surprise when they released this album. That Christmas night after a great family get together and a few drinks, I took a blanket and a 6 pack into the cowfield behind my childhood home and laid back and relaxed and watched the full moon, and a storm roll in and pass with fast moving clouds, listening to this album 3-4 times. Ill always remember that. It has become my favorite album since then.
check out the band crosses if u havent already
What a time!
Fuqn awesome story 🤘
What an incredible album....I'm shocked at how good this is.
shouldnt be shocked its fucking HUM!!!!
Me too
Best cd i own besides Ohms to come out in 2020
@@Orieus Tell em
me too blasting it now cheers 🍻
shapeshifter makes me cry
Me too... Everytime
Masterpiece.
Yup. A platinum in any sane society.
I agree, this is impressive, musically and lyrics wise.
Awesome 22 years later never missed a beat. Saw these guys back in 98 at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor MI. What a show. I'm almost 60 years old now. Would love to see them again. Keep on rocking guys!!!!!
Saw them the same year at The Vic in Chicago. Sooo good
I also saw them on this tour (for the "Downward Is Heavenward" album) at The Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge MA. To say it was transformative does not do the experience justice. And it's in the top 3 loudest shows I've seen.
ohmy i would have liked to have been at that! I saw em in '95 at Fairbanks inn in Orlando, FL.. I've got to play both those rooms heh..
Support the Band/work by BUYING this from them. I did.
Same 🤘🏻
Absolutely!
Me too
Already did!!😊🌌🌠
yup. bought the album after 2nd listen through... and that was like maybe the 4th day after it got put out
I feel hugged
Yes!!! You put it so well. It's like a friend you met up with again after years of being apart. The friend that gave the best hugs. This album is fantastic.
Probably one of the best descriptions ever of this album. Band even
What a perfect description.
Corgan must be absolutely seething about how good this is
@Bilbo Flappers yoink, thank you very much
R.I.P. Bryan!!! Thanks for one more perfect album ❤️
I've been listening to them since 1995. The two-guitar melodic break in ""Step Into You'' at 23:55 kinda takes the mind someplace else.
This cd is so good i bought the shirt
Same lol once I saw the album released I ordered in a heart beat. Such a good record and return after 2 decades!!
i bought the cd. definitely worth every cent. glad to support them bc they earned it hands down!
*_26:02_*
*_Best guitar work on the entire album._*
its so fkn badass
I bust everytime I hear this album. This album was beyond greatness. This album has a blissful top of the top euphoria that cannot be match within the genre they represent. Like, no one in this genre can touch this.
It's like doom metal at times. I love it. These guys are good
dude this piece is amazing, whatever it is.
They were doing this blend of heavy before doom metal was a thing. Electra 2000 for instance. Cheers
@@KevinfinityDrumsDoom metal has been around since the 80's. 70's if you count Sabbath.
@@jessecurle716 60's if your count the Beatles "shes so heavy" or whatever the song is called
@@JamesZell-in6iuy'all check out saint vitus if you haven't already. My personal fave Doom band
The second half of Shapeshifter sends washing emotions over my whole body and I well up like I want to cry.
Gotta go outside and look for NEOWISE now. So many years later and I'm still outback counting stars.
🌌🌠💙
Keep counting. You're not done yet.
💙🌌🌠
Completely forgot about this band, but randomly searched for their old "Stars" song, then this popped up. Was not disappointed.
This should be ranked in the top rock albums of the year, alternative or whatever. Possibly their best.
Record of the fucking year hands down, Man what a mighty return!!!! this is the best record in the alt universe ive heard in a fucking long time, last time i loved a record was songs for the deaf by QOTSA.
This is probably my favorite album since In Rainbows back in 2008. This one will be hard to top!
dude! Queens were the shit! songs for the deaf is amazing. every song is gold. not just No One Knows
@@badpuppet616 Totally dude ! The whole record is a rock n roll masterpiece.
@@Wolfdragon92584 I love Radiohead. In rainbows was one of their best . That record blew me away .
Seriously can't stop listening to this dope album. It's soo freakin good
Been listening to this album for almost 3 years.. best music I have heard in a very long time. Probably the best rock album released in the last 7-10 years. For real. Thank you guys for recording this masterpiece.
Folding makes me cry. Sorry to be overly candid, but I feel like this album speaks to where I'm at in my life. Like I'm comfortable being on my own (as much as you can be) and have been for ages, but I haven't had a friend in literal decades and sometimes it just hits like a ton of bricks. Anyway these tunes are fantastic at least. Lately It's been all about Hum, Drab Majesty and the usual Godflesh/Jesu. I also went through a huge Crowbar phase but then during the pandemic was listening to Viper religiously. There's a newer band Softcult that I got into a couple years ago: I think songs of theirs like "Perfect Blue" are very much in this Hum/Deftones space with the big, deep and kinda jazzy guitars. They have more of a pop angle but I really like it and Perfect Blue gives me similar vibes to this album---just sort of awash in isolation.
Lovin ya homie
Sending love your way. The second half of Shapeshifter wells me up in some intense emotions. Im gonna check out Softcult when I finish this album for the 8th time today.
I can relate to your experiences with loneliness. The Pandemic was terrible for almost everybody. It was tough for me because Covid hit right when I had to switch to online school from the end of my Freshmen year of college until 2022 when Fall Semester of my Junior year started. Thanks to support from family and close friends I overcame that hurdle in my life. You gotta meet with likeminded people who can relate to you on a mental, physical, and emotional level. I hope you meet the people who make you feel this way. The world has become more isolated even after Covid but I know it is possible to meet others who you can relate to out there. Best of luck.
P.S.
Cool how your a Drab Majesty fan. I'm a big fan as well! Keep rocking on!
You guys r the best 👌
They were one of my favorites back in the 90s. Can't believe I only just now found this. I can't stop listening to it.... It's amazing.
This newer album by HUM kicks some serious ass into outer space! \m/
I worked with Tim Lash and his brother at Willys Pizza in Champaign 1990. What was Tim's older brothers name? Todd? Tim was about 19, I was 21 so I would buy them beer. Most importantly, they played all kinds of great grunge in the kitchen. They introduced me to Soundgarden, Dinosaur Jr, Naked Ray gun, etc. Amazing times!
Didn't happen
There was a comment on another early upload that went something like:
"Hum flying back on a rocketship to save the world", haha
😂
Heavy Shoegaze is good rock, no argument allowed!
@braingazer... Cheers to that!
💙✨🥂
@braingazer... definitely for sure.
Rest in peace Bryan st. pere. Hum will echo on forever. Emotional and full of power and hope. One of the best bands to ever do it. Crying as i type this. Music is all there is. Thank you Bryan 💜 hum gets me up on my feet. I hope somehow he knows how we feel about his music. Amazing
I remember when this came out. It was like right at the start of the pandemic, and I remember opening up Spotify and going to listen to YPAA, and I saw a whole ass new album. I was in shock when I saw it... and dudes and dudettes, let me tell ya... ol' Phoenix here was a mess of emotions listening to it. It was like hugging your parents after 20 years of not seeing them. I needed this at the time, and I'm so thankful for it. Thank you Hum for all you've given us, and thank you for uploading it.
yea! with ya there! Thanks Matt, Tim, Bryan, and Jeff for being there for us later on in life..
In the Den is so incredible, just an out of this world track about a kid sitting in the parents Den and saw his future ahead of him as being an Astronaut and heard this awesome song in his head, Muh is such a great band
I agree. "In the Den" is THE song on the album for me. Feels like a hit single from the stars.
What a left field classic!!! This could have been released in 2000!! It hits much more profoundly in these modern times. I love cleansing music like this.
It gets better every time I listen to it. Hope you're somewhere better, Bryan.
Hum comes up on my Pandora Dinosaur Jr station all the time and it always hits. Such a great band that never got the recognition they deserved.
yep. this album should have been at the top charts. we have to keep it alive!
I literally an just playing this album on a loop.... Probably one of the most underrated bands in history
I just found out the drummer passed.. RIP brother. Ive been listening to you guys for years, some of my best memories as a child was listening to your music. So glad you dropped another album, its just as awesome as the rest of them. Unchanged sound 20 years later.
Tripping down memory lane! So happy these boys are still making killer music. None of their songs are, "a waste of a song" Love these guys. Sorry to hear we lost one of the grooviest drummers of our time. R.I.P Bryan St. Pere
Great return from these guys!
best album of 2020. I am genuinely so thankful to know and love HUM!!! this band has been with me before I knew it. when I was 12 years old and their music was used in old 411vm.... I absolutely love this band. RIP Brian - thank you for all that you gave us.
This album is every single last goddamned thing. 🔥
Fuckin A!
@@Phoenix_2A 💙🌌✨
Good record.
I listened to it while the tv was on mute, made watching Harry Potter a different experience for sure.
Hum is one of those once-in-a-lifetime bands.
Discovering this album has made me so happy. Long time fan.
Perfect winter time album
This album is incredible 👍. It's up there with "Fantastic Planet" from the band Failure. Beautiful, heavy, melodic.
Yes! I was just telling my best friend that this album rivals anything that Ken or Jordan did with Failure! I love failure big time, and Hum, but I am convinced that Inlet is Hum’s best work by a country mile.
I could swear on Desert Rambler i hear Cellos and violins!
I'm so happy they're still making music...like, my heart is hype rn
😮😮😮Holy shit took me this long to find out they came out with another album!!
4 and 7 are my favorites after listening to the whole thing once.
100 listens later just as good
100.days straight
The Sword + My Bloody Valentine + a little something extra. Fantastic experience.
Unbelievable; it never lets up!
SERIOUSLY ~ THANK YOU , Matt & Tim * For coming back TOGETHER & MAKING ANOTHER ALBUM & PLEASE KEEP on BRINGING MORE . . . I've been an immediate fan since my band opened up for you guys in 97 @ Koo's Cafe in Santa Ana, California
Holy shit! Love it! Didn't know they came out with a new album
The night this dropped I was living in Washington state working nights and had gotten off around 2 am I guess and had just sat down on my couch and sparked a blunt when I saw this posted on UA-cam. It was definitely one of those super late night “ what??” moments. I pressed play not knowing what to even expect after being away so long. I was blown away. This is their best work, and to do it 22 years after they had fell into obscurity, is just one hell of an accomplishment. Definitely a 5/5 to me.
Such a terrific album. My favorite of 2020.
I mean really..... just as astounding as its predecessors, imho. Understated vocal expressions in both delivery and messaging coupled with the hugeness of the instruments. New and involving, huge and overwhelming. Goddamn. Thanks.
This album and Deftones Ohms are imo the best releases of 2020.
Nov8th, 2023 is the day I learned this album existed and that Bryan St Pere passed away a couple years ago. I'm feeling mixed emotions. :(
I was into Hum 20 years ago when I was almost only listening to death/black metal and underground hiphop. They still do it for me 100%. This album rips.
This release is incredible! The best release they have put out yet!!!! What a return!!!!!!
How did I miss this! Damn amazing and sounds so good. Gotta buy this now!!!
When I do my favorite albums of the 2020's Inlet by Hum will be in the top 5 definitely.
I had no fucking clue they had made a new album! I have all their albums but this one and I'm blown away! It feels so right!
Their best work imo. Grungegaze sounds beautiful ❤❤
I'd forgotten about these guys. Glad to see/hear they're still making heavy sound tasty.
Excellent. May be my favorite Hum release
It sure is for me
Dear anyone who's ever thought or said that rock in roll is for the young or all your best work is in your 20's...
What an amazing album.
just heard about this band. diggin it so far
so dreamy heavy and cool
Matt's a genius!
Welcome back...we've been waiting. 😁
this feels like they never left in the first place
Needed this
This helps me heal my wounds. Thank you Hum!
Best comeback album i know since Slowdive's
what an album - start to finish - congrats and thank you
I just listen over and over again...
Same here man, anything that gives this much of a piece of my life back is worth gold to me!
The best album of 2020 for ever for me!
Saw them in the 90s in Kansas. Hell of band live
Thank you
Thank you! ‘96
ANOTHER SUCH GREAT ALBUM
This is glorious and strangely stunning. What a masterpiece of solitude and depression. Space is the place.
Five stars for this album. Have not had an album impact me as this one has in ages.
Wow... this is pretty fucking amazing... can't believe I'm this late to the party...I can't wrap my head around their sound so heavy so Milotic...
This sounds so damn good. Buying it now.
Amazing
basically on repeat for the last 2 weeks, and the foreseeable future.
Mesmerized by this from the first time I heard it. Downloaded it less then an hour later. You ladies have a great sound, very good musicianship. Your voices are soothing and relaxing. Very talented!!. I hope that you blow up and hit it big!!. This is great music that is a throwback to the 90’s mixed with some shoegaze. Absolutely adore this song!!!. Can’t wait to hear an EP or album. Keep on writing, creating and playing great and unique music ladies!!!. You definitely have a fan here.
