    Oh! and huge thanks to Sky Helicopters and Allan Fraser for flying me up multiple times to help rescue my Heli! We actually got it out just in time, because a few days later a bear found my paddle boards and popped all 3 of them. Also chewed my repair kits and pumps at the lake. If the Heli was still there, he definitely would have ripped it open. Thanks bear.

    Last summer while flying with York and the guys from GoPro prior to the launch of the GoPro Hero 7, Bentley and I split up from the group and flew 3 paddle boards to a gorgeous blue lake. The plan was to meet up a few hours later at Pitt Meadows Airport and then fly to the lake. Well... when I went to start up, BOOM! My battery made a huge pop sound and everything went dead, including my radios. Zero juice. When I went under my seat to grab my PLB (Personal Location Beacon) and handheld radio, I realized someone removed my bag from the Heli and put it in York's machine. I worked for a few hours, scaling the mountain across the lake trying to get a signal.
    At around 9pm, just before dark, York found me and flew us home! What a guy! Love you York!

    Oh, and I mention in the video I don't monetize my channel, but yet there are ads on some of my videos. Well, the music sometimes gets claimed which puts ads on them for the music rights holders. This, is one of those videos.

    Great video, Bradley!
    Nick touched on one of the big (at least for some of us) drawbacks of the 505 - and that is that you really can't put five full-size adults in it without exceeding the forward c.g. So as a tour machine it's going to be...well... Perhaps someone using one for dedicated tours would ballast it so that you *could* take five adults. But then, if the pilot were to fly solo he'd probably have to carry weight with him in the cockpit to keep the c.g. from being too far aft.
    Everything is a compromise.

Also intrigued by the new plastic Jet Ranger. :)

    • @bradleyfriesen
      @bradleyfriesen  5 років тому +3

      MRBLACK947 well... here’s my quick pitch. First off, the brush is on par in terms of quality with the current top of the line Sonicare. Our brush heads get delivered to you for $6 each, compared to $20 for Sonicare. We send you a reminder email when it’s time to change your head. Every set of replacement heads also provides a free toothbrush, tooth paste and fluoride treatment for a person in need in the 3rd world through our partners at “A Reason to Smile”
      Our battery life is better than the Sonicare at over 30 days, 2x per day.
      Our brush heads are arguably better (softer is better for protecting your gums). We use DuPont, Tynex Ultrasoft Bristles which are industry leading.

    Does the 505 have an Allison C30 and/or a long ranger transmission?

    • @ThatBobGuy850
      @ThatBobGuy850 5 років тому

      Joe, it has a 500 horsepower French engine (called an Arrius). Bell chose it - supposedly - because it has *dual* FADEC as opposed to the venerable RR 250-series which at this point only has single FADEC. (I suspect that there were other considerations as well.) As for the transmission, yes, the 505 uses the same trans as the 206L-4, which easily handles the paltry horsepower that the engine puts out.

    • @bradleyfriesen
      @bradleyfriesen  5 років тому +4

      I don't know this first hand, but what he is saying has to do with the Center of Gravity of the helicopter.
      Imagine a pillar with a board placed on top. If you start placing weight on the board without countering that weight with an equal weight on the other side, the board would tip over. A helicopter is like that, but upside down. The Center of Gravity is located around the rotor mast because that is suspending the helicopter in the air. If you put too much weight at the nose, tail or side to side, the helicopter controls might not be strong enough to keep the helicopter upright. The 505 is nose heavy. So if you put 5 people inside with gear to it's full lifting capacity, the weight could exceed the C of G limits of the helicopter.
      That means for a tour operator, you might have to leave a client behind not because the helicopter can't legally lift them, but because the C of G is out of balance. The A-Star he flies can take 5 or 6 people with the gear and pilot, without being outside the weight or C of G limits.

      Johnny Woldemichael if you ever see me buy a Ferrari or something, permission to punch me in the face. The only thing I want in my life is something bigger to fly. A 120 would be awesome, but a little limited on power especially at altitude. The 66 has way too short engine cycles for the flying I do. Realistically, a AS350B2 would be perfect. A B3 overkill but 😍. Bucket list Heli though would be an SH09!
