    Had fun watching this one.
My controversial take is that Lords of Chaos is in a lot of ways a more accurate re-telling of Mayhems story than what we have in our heads. Sure, the film takes creative liberties, but the one thing it really nails is that Mayhem and Varg were just a bunch of kids doing dumb stuff, making music and trying to out evil eachother. The mythologised version a lot of people have in their head cannon is likely just as innacurate.

It's always such a risky move to click open a video with title like that. Who knows what sort of NSBM shit comes up...
Black metal not having to be satanic, it being nature, pictures.. that nails it. Do you have an interview where he said that?
I have never gotten into Dissection. Just doesn't work for me.
Saw Blackbraid live a week ago. They worked better live than on recordings IMO.
One line in the video said that BM cannot inherently be leftist because it's all about hate. Yeah no. I'm leftist and there's plenty of things I hate.
DS it not black metal but I just love it when DS and BM meet. Perfection!

IMO BM is at its best when it's exploring emotion such as wanting to blow your head out with a shotgun or looking back at the past and reminiscing on it instead of " hail Satan and Hitler, do crack and abortions too"
Also for me and a lot of other people, dsbm is therapeutic because the extreme sound complements the lyrics of the song in how extremely grim it is and it helps people know that there not alone in these feelings. Although it can make it worse with bands romanticizing depression or encouraging suicide.

I think the absolute requirement for black metal is to have a beliefs in SOMETHING mystical, metaphysical or spiritual. I think to achieve genius, you'd probably be clued into a greater reality. Shining is one of the good DSBM bands, because he believes in something. I think he's an asshole and I punched him once on stage lol, but the sickness in me respects and loves it.

So, when it comes to DSBM, I can see both sides of the coin. It's probably my favourite subgenre of Black Metal, but the issues are clear as day.
A guy like Niklas Kvarforth is just embarrassing because he actually acts like he's promoting s**cide as a good thing.
On the other hand, I think music or another art form can be a good outlet for coping with mental health issues and can help others who feel the same way by letting them know they aren't alone.
However, this works best in conjunction with actual therapy, and you should always seek therapy first as a main priority.

The part about bands and their people being shitty is so real. I love the genre and it sucks that so many of them are racist or homophobic or abusers.
Metal, especially the extreme stuff, attracts the worst people. The genre has somewhat become a safe space for shitty people, and its allowed for shit to fester and twist what metal is. At the end of the day, it is just music, and it won't stop me from listening, but I wish it wasnt so

I draw the line when someones shitty actions or world view actually tangle with the music. I refuse to listen to Goatmoon etc because you cant seperate the music from the strist since the art is literally a reflection on the artists shitty beliefs.

    • @Cloven137

No it doesn't. It attracts people who are unconcerned and couldn't care less about society... Then like seven years ago it started attracting people like you who have like an obsession with racism.
It does attract sick people also, but they are worse than racist.
You can not quell biology, you can only make someone sick and self destructive. None of us are different.

I could care less. You can't even understand 90% of the vocalists in BM anyways. Deathspell Omega are an amazing band and I could care less about the singers bigoted beliefs.

@@j85grim4 Read the lyrics and consider that they are to be taken seriously. Bigotry will be the least of your concerns hahaha.
They got cancelled right around the time "Furnaces" was released, and honestly I'm not sure if that was an intentional effort to hide what that album revealed... It almost seems anti totalitarian at times...

    • @j85grim4
      @j85grim4 2 місяці тому +1

@@Big_Tough_Guy Luckily in Deathspell Omega's case, the French guitarist writes the lyrics I believe and he's an anarchist. That album actually was meant to be an anti-authoritarian warning from what I have heard. I am just saying in general, if the music's good, I could care less what the guys do in real life. I mean, we have lots of fans of Emperor and Burzum which have members that have actually been convicted of murder and people don't seem to care. People seem to be way more offended by lyrics that just talk about things they don't like rather than members who have actually done horrible actions in real life which seems hypocritical to me.

Even Varg's most famous pictures copied Quorthon's poses from that album, something which is not really talked about.

Man, this video made me feel young again.
    Here's a few :
Black metal becomes better by the year. The second wave is brain-dead, along with Norwegian black metal in general. The first wave is even worse...
Poland, Iceland and France are the kings of the genre.
NSBM is awful, but I honestly respect it more than its opposite.
Black metal requires spirit/insanity. Materialists are incapable of genius, because if they had it, they would be clued into a grander world.
Most of the genre is filled with people who live in the shadow of a few mostly narcissistic 16 year olds, but at least they actually innovated...
