As a polyglot myself I can tell that shakira has a gift in languages and she is very fluently while speaking. I also speak 6 languages and now learning my 7 and at times is very hard to switch while you still connected to another. Great job shakira ☺️👍🏻

Nothwithstanding the cliche, you have to love the language you're learning. For example, I speak fluent German, Norsk, and (obviously) English. I have never found learning German difficult because I love doing it. It just depends on your interests, man.
It depends how your school teach you France if it is memorising words then you will forget it eventually you should connect with the culture and history fall in love with the language.
Fall in love with a girl that only speaks French and you'll be fluent in no time. Motivation is sooo important (though talent and a good teacher also help)

In your defense, the other 5 she speaks are very closely related Romance languages. They're very similar and you can pick up a lot because so much is shared. English is the oddball here. While the structure and syntax is German, we still have a ton of loan words from our little foray in France in the Hundred Year's War and the fact that England had French kings on the throne before that. About 40-50% of English vocabulary has Latin roots. I'm not saying it's easy. I speak reasonable Spanish and some French, but nothing even close to what she does.

As for Spanish in particular, I honestly don't know anyone who struggled with it, even when learning with no prior Romance background. And all I know started it as adults (when your brain is not that good at languages at all). Not sure about your personal situation - whether you tried to learn it at least a bit, or maybe it was a bad teacher, or lack of motivation/interest. It's uncommon for me to hear that.

Bear in mind, that we actually HAVE to speak a second language if we don't want to be secluded. I'm Danish, and with only 6 million ppl in our tiny country, we're taught English and German (geographical neighbor) in school. When you hit 8th grade you can add French to that.
In Brazil we learn English during middle school and Spanish during High school at public schools. It's not really good, but it shows you the basics and motivates you to keep learning. It's actually necessary if you want to have better opportunities in life
All latam countries have english in their school curricula. And in my country you can not get a bachelors or masters degree unless you have an intermediate english level. And then some people learn other languages for fun. Like me. I'm having a hard time learning french but is never too late

Well, yes, the Romance languages are all just essentially the same... that’s why English is different because it’s half Latin half Germanic... the only language to really be so! This wasn't just knowing a few phrases -- she is fluent in all of those languages. Amazing. Makes it even more embarrassing that I can barely speak more than one.
In your defense, the other 5 she speaks are very closely related Romance languages. They're very similar and you can pick up a lot because so much is shared. English is the oddball here. While the structure and syntax is German, we still have a ton of loan words from our little foray in France in the Hundred Year's War and the fact that England had French kings on the throne before that. About 40-50% of English vocabulary has Latin roots. I'm not saying it's easy. I speak reasonable Spanish and some French, but nothing even close to what she does.

That is Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and French. English is not included. There are many other widely spoken languages in this family like Romanian, Catalan, etc. But it's still amazing to me that she speaks four of them and in these clips, she didn't mix her words at all. From someone who speaks 3 languages and 2 romance languages, I often slip up.

As for Spanish in particular, I honestly don't know anyone who struggled with it, even when learning with no prior Romance background. And all I know started it as adults (when your brain is not that good at languages at all). Not sure about your personal situation - whether you tried to learn it at least a bit, or maybe it was a bad teacher, or lack of motivation/interest. It's uncommon for me to hear that.

It amazes me that many countries outside the United States teach their children to speak more than their native language. That is a great life skill to have.
Bear in mind, that we actually HAVE to speak a second language if we don't want to be secluded. I'm Danish, and with only 6 million ppl in our tiny country, we're taught English and German (geographical neighbor) in school. When you hit 8th grade you can add French to that.
In Brazil we learn English during middle school and Spanish during High school at public schools. It's not really good, but it shows you the basics and motivates you to keep learning. It's actually necessary if you want to have better opportunities in life
We learn it on school, not because our parents teach it.
As a Dutch guy I learned English, German and French. Some also learned Spanish.
All latam countries have english in their school curricula. And in my country you can not get a bachelors or masters degree unless you have an intermediate english level.
And then some people learn other languages for fun. Like me. I'm having a hard time learning french but is never too late

Without any study a spanish speaking person might easily understand pretty well italian and portuguese, they are very close related, french a little further

As a spanish speaker i don't think so. Okay, there are some similarities, but french is very different, and even thought we can understand a little bit of italian and portuguese, we can't speak them without learning them like any other language.
@@arlettasloan6453 I know spanish too and spent like a whole year in french class. Some words are similar but most of french sounds nothing like spanish and I can't understand why they say french is easier to learn if you know spanish

Yes, we can understand a lot of Portuguese and a little bit of Italian, but I can assure you if you did not study those languages you will not speak them only because you know spanish

I must to say, as a Spanish speaker, the other latin languages should be far easier than english. I pretty much understood everything without speaking those languages.
Well, yes, the Romance languages are all just essentially the same... that’s why English is different because it’s half Latin half Germanic... the only language to really be so! That’s probably why it triumphed, not due to empire or to America but due to the qualities of the language itself 👍 it’s also has more descriptive words 👍
@@dannyboywhaa3146 It triumphed, because it has been imposed by America, not because of quality, and a sign of it is that in almost anywhere in the globe, people will understand you if you speak in english, but most native speakers don't even try to learn an extra language apart from English itself.
