- Classic VW Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, what are they? How do we distinguish a VW Beetle to a Karmann Ghia, Thing, and others? What is the difference between a Kombi and a Microbus? Is a T1 and T2 referring to Types? And what in the world is a Type 3?
I try and answer these questions and more in this research project I undertook, to help me understand the interesting and sometimes complicated world of Classic VW Types.
More than likely I have made errors or missed something, so if you have any further information, please comment 👍

1:29 The Type 147 was originally used by german Post and this Typ also named as "Fridolin".
Great explanation mate 👍🏽👊🏽🙏
Thanks Nick 👍
No Kûbelwagen, it was produced in more quantity than the Schwimmwagen and is different to the Thing. There's also the Kommandeurswagen which is a 4WD Beetle produced during the war. Nice images indeed.
Good information, thank you. So there seems to be a Type 8 used during the war. I can see that the Kommandeurswagen is a Type 87 and the Kubelwagen is a Type 82, and went under other type numbers as well.
That clears things up. Thank you
@@Tomtom342N I’m glad it was helpful.

K70? K70LS?, Type 2 delivery van with sliding doors both sides, Type 2 Pickup with extended load area, Type 2 with high roof, Motor Caravans - Westphalia, Devon, Danbury, Dormobile. Brasilia, Brazilian Type 3 models, Iltis, 411/412 as someone else has said....Oh, 914.
Wow, I really missed a lot 👀
@@KombiGarage Yeah but no one else has done this before as far as I know and there's loads or errors out there with people's understanding. Plus your format is great so you could do an expanded version better than anyone else. There's a Brazilian Karmann Ghia too.
Was the type 3 Panel Van version allocated its own unique code ?
I saw these offered for sale in Australia about 1964 or 1965.
@@johnd8892 Great question. I wasn’t aware of this, but according to a post on thesamba, it was the a type 36

Maybe you can tell me what year did they make the type 14 Karma Ghia automatic because I have one but I’m not sure if the date is correct 1965 through 1969 what year could it be?
Hi John, my understanding is that the Type 14 Karmann Ghia with the automatic transmission began in 1960 and continued through to 1974. To get the exact year, we can work that out from the chassis number, located under the rear seat on the tunnel 👍
So my car could be a 1965 as it says on the registration, even though it’s an automatic
Cool. Now go over the Mk.
🙂 my brain is still in a spin from Types
Why do you think this requires 'music'?
Like trying to purchase a train ticket at Munich station , ridiculously overKOMPLIKATED
joe you forgot type 4's
👀 Oh dear, will need to do a special on that!
One of the most intriguing cars ever. We can hint the 80's style in the headlights with 30's technology. In 1973...
