To be fair, the population efficiency was about unit vs unit comparisons. This was units vs buildings with acceptable losses.

That start was incredible. Normally a little slow, this game the first 5 beats most other games. The ending didn't disappoint either, Szalamii's play was incredible. So novel, frankly might change the meta. He should have lost, he should have been utterly destroyed, but that play flipped it so hard. This has to be one of the greatest games yet.
Playing many games where a similar amount of elephants just fall over from handcannoneers makes me think there's a difference between resource population efficiency and realistic population efficiency. An army only/mostly made of elephants is easily dispatched by someone who knows what to produce.
Scouts on the other hand... definitely the best unit in the game.

You can't with anyone but delhi. He was pumping out 2 scouts for every one a normal civ could build. Don't try this outside of the Sultanate, kids! xD

My jaw genuinely dropped when that horde came sweeping! If there is an AoE highlights somewhere, this should go in.
This may very well be the most back and forth game I have seen yet in aoe4.
This was so entertaining, I was cheering for Szalami the whole time as the underdog, and it went back and forth so many times with such unique plays.
So, all you need to do when all is lost is to build 100 scouts and dive on all enemy landmarks, great to know this cheese strategy. might get blocked if i use it on my friends!
A couple of spears and mangonels at one of those bottle necks (or waiting behind walls which would create a bottleneck) would've spelled slaughter for them.
I believe any amount of walls and mangos would have countered this pretty easily. I blame the French player for playing a lazy late game and not sealing the deal at around the 25 minute mark when he was already massed in the Delhi base. That sort of cheese only works when your enemy underestimates you. French shouldn’t play with their food like that. 🤷♂️
To be fair the other guy was playing French. And this doesn't work unless you prepare for it with scholars. But yeah, probably gonna get nerfed if it proves too good. All that needs to happen is scholars don't increase scout build speed. Compare that to the french that basically need a rework, rofl.
@@mikegamerguy4776 You think the Delhi should be nerfed for fast production? 🤔 I only ask because realistically Chinese actually could have played that cheese even faster, which would seemingly be even more broken. Imperial Officers can increase unit production to triple the rate of a normal stable, where as the Delhi can only double that number. Now, the Chinese can only have four IOs, but when have you ever played Delhi and put more than 4 or 5 scholars on unit production? Not often I’d bet. Not only that, Chinese imperial age scouts can have an extra 10% HP if you hit your fourth dynasty, or, if you hit the third dynasty instead you can give them that 15% extra move speed. Either would have simply spelled a quicker death for France, might have even spelled a win earlier and not needed that second push. Could I ask, what would you do to balance that for the Delhi? Just curious to hear your thoughts on this.

This is the best game of Age of Empires that has ever been played. It should be taught in schools.
If scout landmark snipe srat becoming one powerful strat, we'll see a lot more stone wall in the play.

After watching this video I went 12W-2L ( one loss was a 2v4 I eliminated 3 enemies, second loss stone walls on choke points + teammates left ) only building scouts from the start with rus or mongols, in 1v1,2v2,3v3,4v4 it works wonders, and yes stone walls are a hard counter ( bonus points if you do it with a friend nothing can stop 250 scouts )

I forget the name of the battle, but the British were outnumbered by heavy French cavalry, so what they did is they moved to some muddy terrain and put caltrops down. When the French charged the British longbow men, they were unable to run them down due to the defenses erected, but also the slowing mud. They tried several charges, but failed each time, taking losses to the longbows. Finally the French commander got mad and told his knights to dismount and fight the archers on foot. So they did. But because the archers were unarmored, they had better mobility in the muddy terrain and they hacked down all the knights. I'd love to see a little bit more terrain style features in the game. For instance, maybe the hulk can't float in shallow water because of its size, so can't get too near the river bank. Stuff like that.

@@JamminPanda you're right about "the battle of agincourt" bit but not so much on "the henry iv" part. henry iv (aka henry bolingbroke) overthrew his cousin, richard II, and became king at 32 and spent most of the rest of his short life quelling rebellions. after the king's passing, henry's 26 year old son, henry v, who wanted to legitimize himself in the eyes of the people, and was well aware the french were in disarray due to charles vi's illness, invaded france and led the english army in agincourt.

With the elephants, you wanna back them up with a few scholars. In general, I find it helpful to put them in their own control group since the scholars move so much faster. Get your elephants stuck in, then have the healers follow up.
Do they heal enough? The healing in game seems underwhelming and rarely a victory decider
@@partydean17 it depends on what you’re up against. What I can promise is there’s a definite synergy with 1100 health units and healers. There’s a reason you also get the healers so cheap.
@@jonathankelly4222 There's an anti-synergy with high hp and flat hp heals. You want high resistance units, which elephants are not
Doesn't help against massed hand cannoneers. Once you hit critical mass on ranged units in aoe and can one shot like they do here, healing is redundant

that's one of the best games of AOE IV I've seen so far, that was crazy
75 scouts = 4.5 elephants in resources
The Hisar Academy produces the food needed in six minutes. The Palace of the sultan will produce 3.6 tower elephants in that time - if you put 4 scholars into it.
Compare that to the 15k resources he lost in elephants on that one push.
I've always suggested massed scouts against massed springalds as well, against which they deal another +10 damage each.

The bit at the end reminded me of the first time I saw the Spanish villager rush in AoE2.
And that is what happens if the winning player doesn't push through to seal out the game :)

this reminds me when I was 4 v 4 the two Chinese player on the other team immediately steamrolled our entire landmarks with fire lancers and bombards when we were committing all of our army at their team. Was an absolutely ridiculous game how our table turned just like that.

And this is why player scores are not shown in the game. I actually prefer it this way for more late strats like this. I actually do something similar with Bombards. Just go straight for the landmarks.

This is the reason AoE4 has potential. On the elephant debate, that's the reason why Dehli is not a late game civ, but a Castle Age civ, unbeatable in Castle Age, due to elephants and free veteran upgrades (which are expensive af), but fall out late game unless you can pivot really quickly to elite units and siege.

Although this river doesn't cross any English speaking country , and native names are certainly different. We say "Donau" sounding like "doughnow" (as in doughnut) here in Vienna.
