Equestrian fox hunting in Ireland with the Suir Vale Harriers Hunt Clonmore Jan 2020

- Equestrian fox hunting in Ireland is a very popular sport which runs from November to March. It's a test of skill and stamina on both horse and rider. It takes you over natural cross country jumps and open country side at speed an not knowing what's ahead is all part of it. A few thrills and spills along the way are all part of the days fun.
This hunt is run by The Suir Vale Harries Hunt and was filmed by @Brian S - Спорт
Calm down hunny maybe your jumps would actually look better if you prepare yourself instead of whipping
After Hunting for many seasons myself I think that if it takes that much whipping to get the horse/pony over the fence then either the horse shouldn't be hunting or the rider should not have that horse
yes fr
Agree. There's a reason a horse refuses jumps. Often time, it's the rider.
Most of them seem to have to use a whip, and most of them seem to have lousy seats.
Agree. I've never had to hit my horse. This rider needs to evaluate their skill, or get a horse that enjoys the job.
I can't fault the horse. It knows it's capabilities. Perhaps with proper training, it would be more suitable.
Awful to watch
Cantering on the road… thats super bad for the horses legs! Im honestly angered
3:04 there was really no need to whip him! It’s a new area and he could have just gone back around until he jumped it and wasn’t spooked!
6:01 ....
No need to whip your horses like that. If it’s naughty train it, don’t go hurting it. Before anyone replies. I own horses, work with horses. Do you know what a horses vision is like? And don’t say but horses skin is thick because actually scientist are looking at the fact horses skin could be a bit thinner than human skin! Train train train, don’t hurt.
The horse at 3:03 I Know that mare, she has jumped plenty bigger, wider fences both sj and cross country, for that mare to stop while being presented correctly was a shock to me and her rider, it was a common thing that the mare would have her “mare-ish” attitude show and just stop and go to standstill randomly wether she was jumping or cantering or trotting etc right there was one of her tantrums showing if you look closely her ears were pricked forward while she was approaching and stopping at the jump meaning she wasn’t upset by anything hence the rider gave out to her I’m not saying the rider should have hit her as hard or as much but there was no need for her to stop which is why she was told off. The mare had stopped the “mare-ish” habit for a solid 5 or so months and that was the first time she had done it again.
As I said before I know that mare, I work with her (I’m her groom kinda) she is properly looked after and there was no harm done physically to her (yes I checked) she is properly trained and a beautiful mare under saddle and on the ground to work with apart from those little hiccups! As for the other riders I don’t know why they used their whips so many times!
Sorry for the long paragraph 😅😅
Train yourself. Spend more time working on an independent seat before ever jumping. Should be able to jump with no reins or stirrups and do just fine - then you have an independent seat. Spend time riding bare back.
YOUR WHIPPING YOUR HORSES . This doesn’t make them jump higher it will make them more agitated . Please dont use crops that way . 😑😠
STOP SMACKING YOUR HORSES! IT ONLY MAKES THEM MORE AGITATED
Blance Müller ok . I just get very funny w that kind of thing. I guess I just overreacted.
Blance Müller yes of course :)
Karen Simon I’m not saying hunting is bad at all I just think when some of the people ride it’s a bit unfair to the horse!
Blance Müller this is so untrue horses are animals that go with almost anything especially if they would get beaten for not moving I’m sorry not but you’re wrong
Karen Simon so are you saying they like being wiped
This is odd, I've watched these horses & ponies fly over hedges, ditches, 5 bar gates, etc. but they're struggling with a simple rail... :-D
Yes. Hard to argue with that. A few young horses and a few young riders might account for some of it but after that it it's just down to riding or lack of it.Thanks for watching.
yeah whipped if cant cope
Perhaps there’s a slight upward slope leading upto it
I actually think there must be a big ditch on the take off side, explains why so many horses hesitated and jumped poorly.
Poor riding.
I love this kind of thing and the fun of it, but cantering on bare concrete cab damage the horses legs quite seriously. No hate :))
Chloe Hemming Eyres it's actually better for horses to cater on the road than trotting
If you look again they are actually trotting on the road not cantering.
Equine_ Blossom sry. I’m very sensitive w this kind of thing as my first pony had to be put down after my friend rode her and cantered on the road. She damaged her leg and chipped a bone x
@@chloehemming5715 nice friend, hope she had fun
@@chloehemming5715 : Sorry to hear about your pony. A slow canter is lower impact than a fast trot. Personally I'd ride on the verge or the grass in the centre of the road.
Does everyone jump in a foxhunt? Or is there a separate group (in the back perhaps) that goes around the jumps?
No. It's natural countryside. Get over the obstacles or get left behind.
In our hunt, there are non jumping riders using go arounds, no jumps.
But they miss the true hunt.
I have no problem with people going out with guns and humanely hunting these animals but when you get a pack of dogs and sick them on to one animal and have them rip it apart is disgusting.
Ye this is sick
hunting with a gun is fine but making horse’s and dogs chase one fox
Like how is it even fun there is like 30 people just follow a pack of dogs and get rewarded with a dead fox that has been mauled to bits
@@BK-ut3wc ikr it’s so fricken messed up
I surely hope this was a mock hunt and no foxes were harmed. AWESOME FOOTAGE THOUGH I love watching this sort of thing! Love from South Dakota!
Skye Snyder it would have been a drag hunt (where an artificial scent is laid) all fox hunting in the UK is illegal
Freya-Mae Equestrian. Thanks, I didn’t know it was illegal. I just thought it was frowned upon by many. That’s awesome though, would love to try something like this sometime!
It is not a drag hunt. It's a proper fox hunt.
Fox hunting is not illegal in Ireland.
Brian S: I wish it was 😪 at least the hunters had fun but I surely hope the fox got away and wasn’t harmed.
@@freya-maeharris5880 it's in Ireland, not the UK
Where is the hunt.
It says in the description.
Love things like this xx
WTH you psycho path. Never support it horrible.
Muss das sein, mit der Gerte draufhauen? 😟
Yes. It must be that way.
The land looks quite dry with you.
Yes it is at the moment.
We've had a very mild winter so far.
Thanks for watching.
Very wet in Wales, hock deep in the mud. Hounds find scenting conditions hard in these mild winters.
The majority of the riders lack jumping skills.
some one there should of taken his horse , he needs animal controll called on him
When u see that get a pop gun
Poor horses
Is this hunt accepting applications? xD
If you mean do we accept new members then yes all the time.
All riders are so nice! especially 2:40 2:55 4:46 5:46 6:01 7:47 whipping scenes are very bold a nd vigorous in good timing.
Yes soooooooo bestial with horses 😠
It dosent hurt them. It’s just encouragement and the last one didn’t hit their horse
@@daisyLR1023 Whips do indeed harm horses. Horses are not these big bad thoughtless beings that feel no pain. They're actually vastly more sensitive than humans are. So that's false. Whipping your horses shows how awful you are.
@@staceyevans2315 I must be an awful person then. Bc I smack my horses with a whip sometimes
@@daisyLR1023 Which you shouldn't. Not only does it barely have an effect, but you're also mindlessly beating your horse for being scared.
This sport is abusive to me but that’s just my opinion 🥰
I agree, It is so abusive. They are forcing the horses to do so much dangerous things that can cause the horse so much injuries😡
Ye guys are kill joys hate to see people having a bit of fun grow up.
if i ever see u in galway going to treat u like how you do these fox's
Woooooo!!!
Of course you would big man 🤣
Just to let you know, this isn't a real fox hunt. So foxes aren't being harmed. Humans make an artificial scent for the dogs to track down. This is one of them in progress. But of course this hunt is still bad from how they treated their horses.
This is a proper fox hunt. No scent put down. Fox hunting is legal in Ireland.
Why on earth do they have to whip their horses over the jumps? How about throwing the stick away, use both your hands on the reins, and use your legs to get the horse over the jump, like normal people do? Or just learn to ride better. The stick would be nothing but an impediment to good riding.
The sooner we get this banned the better!
Why?
@@brishorl the torturing of any animal should not be allowed.
There's no animals being tortured in this video.
@@brishorl I was speaking about getting hunting banned, not the video, lol.
@@ano496 or just leave it alone...
I hope this isn't hunting foxes 🦊 no hate
Please read the name of the video.
There's a hint in there.
Poor camera work below the skyline is shadow
To be honest, camera work is the least of my worries on a days hunting. I'm not into all that. Thanks for watching.
@@brishorl Thank-you for your work. With the drought and bushfires here in Australia I am just loving all the green grass!!! Don't understand why the field is so strung out must be just the way you do it there. :)
Some of the riders don't get over obstacles as quick as others so that's why they get strung out but they catch up eventually.
They whip the horses because they jump it wrong but the reason they can’t jump right is because they are holding the horses heads to tight😩
Karen Simon No reason for abuse!
Charlotte Erin the hell? Yes it is! You obviously shouldn’t be riding horses 🤦🏼♀️😬
Alina Reybey do they have brains it’s very much abusive 😅x
Charlotte Erin omg wtf 😂🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ you’re so damn uneducated. Just get off UA-cam and get some lessons on how to treat a horse.
Alina Reybey couldn’t of said it better myself 😂
Hi Brian, I would like to use a screenshot from your video in an exhibition at my art academy. Please let me know if that is of interest and I will write my email adress to you. Thanks.
That would be fine Clara.
