A quick instruction on how to roll a dixie cup to get that flaired look to it. If your active duty, always remember to have a regular dixie cup ready for uniform inspections. wear these on liberty.

Sailors in the past used to wear their hats with the brim fully rolled down like you initially did. You can see photographs of these rolled brimmed hats going back from the 19th century to the post WWII years when the Navy stopped using the dixie cups as everyday wear. The late great actor Vic Tayback wore a dixie cup hat with the brim rolled down as the character Mel Sharples in the movie "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" and the spin off TV show, "Alice".

I'll soak the cover just as you did then work the top with a slight bent to it. It'll put a flare on the top of the cover rather than in the middle. It looks a lot better.
