Different classes of Ship: Frigates and Destroyers
With so many different classes of war ships, what the difference between them?
From cruisers to corvettes to destroyers to battleships, there are a bunch of different ships that perform different roles. Some are easy to tell like aircraft carriers but some look very similar like frigates and destroyers.
So let's go over the difference between frigates and destroyers

Though I never had the opportunity to wear one, the phrase "I hope to shit in your flat hat" always stuck with me. I wore dungarees until I made Chief and switched to khakis. However back in the early to mid 70's they tried to replace dungarees with these Star Trek looking light blue pullover "utility" shirts and dark blue trousers. They sucked. Also, they never actually phased out dungarees. I hear tell the senior member of the uniform board is usually a Master Chief. Which should explain a lot!

When I was in the Marine Corps I had a buddy of mine who was a sailor and when he showed me all of the different uniforms he was required to keep and I was like , “jeeeeezus!” I can’t remember exactly (this was over 30 years ago) but I think it was something like 14 different uniform variations.

The British had a much larger ocean 🌊 to patrol, so smaller and numerous ships that used less resources and could function in multiple climates or winds was of more benefit.

That argument falls apart cause the US used the bigger is better mentality and started dominating the seas pretty much immediatly and continue to do so. We even had less resources thab britain, in terms of ship building facilities, and still outplayed them. The british never wanted to innovate, never wanted to update and were too stuborn to think anyone could ever be better than them. Now even parts of their own islands want nothing to do with Engalnd. Awesome summary. My country (Canada) has put in for 15 of what they are calling the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) ships. They are designating it a Destroyer (River Class), however it derived from the British designed Type 26 Frigate design. I as a lay person found this very confusing. Your video helped to clear it up.

Typical US. Yes, The US won the battles in 1812. 1813 and 1814 changed as the war with France cooled down. Then the US six heavy frigates mostly hid in port. As the first line ships and Captains started to come over from Britain. Being able to beat up the third string small frigates Britain had patrolling the Caribbian is one thing. Once the masses of 64 and 74 guns ships (smallest capital ship of the time), it was over. As the US ship could not stand up to a 74 in a one and one fight. See the Treaty of Ghent for how the war ended. It was during this war the the US White House was burned amongst other buildings. The White House is now whitewashed to cover the fire damage. This burning was in retaliation for US troops burning the Canadian town of York. Finally, USS Constitution is the oldest "floating" commissioned warship in the World. The oldest commissioned warship is HMS Victory (in drydock). Victory was launched in 1765. She is the flagship of the First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy.

Actually we went to war for several demands. You may say we lost but after 1812 ALL our demands were met (like stopping England from impressing our merchant sailors into their navy).. If you lose a war, the "winning " side doesn't agree to your demands. Sorry buddy.

The USN has 6 frigates in acquisition, 1 keel laid, and under construction. They weigh in excess of 7000 tons, which is quite heavy for a light warship, but it is lighter than the Arleigh Burkes it will supplement.

Yeah, but the design isn't even CLOSE to being finished, we won't see the first one until 2027-2028! It is more than fair to say that the US Navy no longer knows how to build/acquire warships anymore, the Constellation class is turning into another LCS program!

It seem they forget the basic fundamentals aspect of warfare low tech and quantity also take great offense to the enemies. Look how small and low tech weapons out there have able to defeat bigger and high tech weapons by a fraction of a cost than those expensive ones. Quality and quantity must be balance dont rely too much on big expensive quality if dont have enough quantities. This is my perspective view only

I could easily pass the physical also. They would only let me be a nuke engineer, so I didn't sign. You dealt with stupid people because they bounce the smart ones right outta the military.
