I'm Brazilian. I met this group because my brother bought a vinyl from them when I was 11 years old. today I am 58 years old and I have never forgotten their incredible melodies.
A 54 year old recording of a song composed at least 270 years ago - touching us beyond time and language to the core of our beingness. As Herr Bach put on his manuscripts, "Soli Deo Gloria".
When I was learning Bach in the 60s, my piano teacher recommended these glorious singers. I didn`t own a record player so the only way to hear them was from their occasional TV appearances in England all those years ago. They are so good!

Elle aurait mérité la reconnaissance du grand public,en plus de celle de la profession et des amateurs de jazz vocal. On ne la voyait guère que dans les émissions de son frère par les Carpentiers,à l'époque. Je revoyais le film Galia,avec Mireille Darc,hier soir;qui.emprunta ce morceau comme thème principal.Et,je me suis souvenu de cette magnifique formation,créée par Ward Swingle avec tous ces merveilleux chanteurs et musiciens:Christiane Legrand,Anne Germain,Claudine Meunier,et les autres,tous issus des légendaires Double-Six. Un des rares groupes français reconnus aux Etats-Unis,récompensé par plusieurs Grammy Awards. Et bien oublié aujourd'hui;malheureusement!☹

I've always thought felt that this is one of the three most beautiful vocal performances I've ever heard, and I'm now sorry that I had never thought of looking for it on UA-cam until today. The other two are Erbarme Dich from the St. Matthew Passion, and an unknown Indian/Indonesian song that is buried somewhere in the boxes that I haven't unpacked or years. In any event, rankings aside, this is magnificent, and I make no apologies for ranking it with Erbarme Dich.
Remember hearing this first in the sixties, played by my arts teacher, have loved the Swingle Singers and Bach ever since. But the title is the F Minor Concerto as is clarified in the subsequent links...

I’ve searched so much for this! I’ve listened to this recording at the 80’s and could never forget it. I looked for it at many stores in Paris when I was there and nobody knew anything about this group. Young French people grew up without knowing Les Swingle Singers. What a shame! I believe that's Christiane Legrand singing the melody; what an amazing musical family she's from (her father was conductor/composer Raymond Legrand, and her brother was famous film composer/conductor/jazz pianist Michel Legrand). I want this played at my funeral.
