Before, I could only listen to this. I never even thought about playing largo. And so, 2.5 years ago, I started learning to play the piano from scratch. And now I'm practicing largo so that people won't be ashamed to play it.
Excellent balance, and the string players do not play the "who can drown out the harpsichord" game. Bravo, and double bravo to the sound-man and recording engineer.
Right, certainly because here the harpsicord is not playing continuo, as often happens in the Baroque Era, but solo. Anyway it's true that its spiky precious sound often disappears under the shrill of the strings.
Finally I can hear this concert closer as Bach conceived it at first half of 18th century, and not with romantic grand piano as he would have played at the elegant halls of Viena or Paris mid 19th. century...
What I would give to be able to go back in time, sometime around 1725, in the town of Leipzig. A "must visit" destination would be, Zimmermannsches KaffeeHaus. Maestro Bach and his musical cohorts (wow, to be able to be a member of that special group...lordy) most likely played this great concerto there, to the delightful astonishment of all the lucky patrons. My guess?...numerous encores. Until the time machine gets perfected, I'll simply come back to this wonderful, live music making, performance. Many, many, thanks...please keep posting.
True but If anything, to go back in time just after Bach's death and salvage his work lost from ignorance like using his compositions for butcher's paper
I certainly understand your reply...the loss/misuse of many of his compositions is obviously a monumental tragedy. Actually, I was really attempting to compliment this ensemble's performance. However, being the selfish soul that I am, I'll admit that I'd rather meet the man when he was fully alive...I'll let you go back and retrieve...hey, I'll even leave you some clues. See ya's in a few hundred years.
Another masterful performance by Siebe Henstra. Everything he plays sounds just right. The iconic Largo is one of those rare instances when the whole universe does makes sense.
Worth looking at iconic bits of all kinds you can imagine and look for some commonalities. When I did it then I saw that to create a melody that sounds closer to iconic it's worth taking into account the implied harmony and how patterns are used... I find Beethoven and Bach very iconic even in their less known music so I looked at those and found those general ideas to be effective in making something I find more iconic.
The string orcesta does an AMAZING job to play in the right dynamic with the harpsichord !!! truly, Bach Society is the best around the world when it comes to Bach. I truly mean it.

It's always weird (and boring) to see people get stuck on the question of tempo in nearly every performance of classical music uploaded to YT, as if that were the most interesting thing to focus on. If you don't like the flow of one performance, you can quite easily to switch to something else instead. There is ample room for all approaches to such music, and the existence of one approach you don't like doesn't nullify all of the approaches you *do* like! Let it exist. Anyway, I like what I've heard of this ensemble's playings of J. S. Bach's music. Thanks for sharing. The first movement of this piece in particular has always struck me as having a peculiarly sinister bent, even among Bach's moodier stuff.
Well said, I am not the most accomplished of piano players. Of necessity i have to play at a slow tempo, in order to avoid too many wrong notes. I have found that much of Bach’s music, can sound good, at least to me, at whatever tempo I choose.
I may be biased since this is one of my first ever exposure to Bach - via a cassette. Rewinding this part all the time until the poor thing just gave up.
The sound of all of them together is superb! There is a perfect balance between the instruments, due the right placing on the stage and choosing the perfect amount of the instruments, and of-course, the beauty of sound by all of them - Bravi!!! I would suggest, though, to slow just a little tiny bit the tempo in the Allegro Moderato, in order not to sound like racing each other. The Largo and Presto were perfect. Thanks for this wonderful upload.
I find it absurdly hard to capture a harpsichord's full sound. As a non-classical producer I've worked with harpsichord samples, but never got them to sit well even in a controlled environment because its tonal character, particularly the treble, was lost in digital translation.

Amazing and does anyone know if it originated on harpsichord? And I love the the role the harpsichord plays at first these low acompining chords and reverberation to the the leading fast scales but for the first movement I prefer glen goulds version because it’s a lot more weighted and firm like how most Bach is but I prefer this recordings third movement because of the tone that you can only get from small ensambles but excelente performance

Magnífico e sublime.
Can you pin this? It’s not at the top.
woher kommt denn die Satzbezeichnung Allegro Moderato für den ersten Abschnitt? im Autographen steht gar nichts...
3:35 Brilliant. I used to listen this over and over again when studying at college. Invigorating and calming all at once.

Bach’s most perfect harpsichord concerto from beginning to end in my opinion, beautifully played.

It has always been my favorite of the 7.
I agree this is ONE OF THE BEST but the best is (for me) 1052, first movement !! man that is MOVING.
Yes, this and the very different D-min concerto. However. the concertos for multiple keyboards are very impressive.
With help from Telemann.
