The Indian Disability Evaluation and Assessment Scale (IDEAS) is a tool designed for the assessment of mental disability in India. It was developed by the Rehabilitation Committee of the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) and is recognized by the Government of India. IDEAS provides a standardized method to quantify the severity of disability resulting from mental illness, aiding in the allocation of disability benefits and services.
Key Components of IDEAS Domains Assessed:
IDEAS evaluates four key domains of functioning affected by mental illness:
1. Self-care
2. Interpersonal activities
3. Communication and understanding
4. Work
5. Duration of Illness
Scoring System:
Each domain is scored on a scale from 0 to 4, where:
0 = No disability
1 = Mild disability
2 = Moderate disability

I have unfortunately been diagnosed with BPD and suffering for more than 10 years. However, my psychiatrist said that the governmental systems in place for mental illness disability certification have not yet been properly implemented and there is no point trying to get a disability evaluation.
After this gazette notification, I guess there is little hope now. Its so sad to think that mental illness being an invisible affliction where society stigma and lack of understanding is now negatively influencing MI disability statutes in this country.

That's not true, my brother has been is SSI for almost forty years because of Mental Illness similar to yours. A man I know is collecting for depression and foot pain. Yet I see him walking everywhere. You can apply for sure for either SSI or SSDI. I applied three months ago for major Panic attacks and depression. The Psyc doctor also diagnosed Paranoid Personality Disorder. Mental illness is real and needs to be taken more seriously. The mind is more important than the body.

Hello sir. What is even the point of certification. The govt psychiatrist even before this notification only gave temporary certificates and for govt jobs they donot accept temporary certificates. I wanted age relaxation as I have spent significant time fighting BPAD. Atleast age relaxation should be provided to temporary certificate holders, without that it just makes temporary certificate a useless piece of paper.
