These great guitar players like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani should just stick to playing instrumentals because when they bring in a vocalist with good lyrical content it just sounds to cheesy. It always seems to me that these songs are always geared towards the guitar and instrumental arrangements and it takes away from the lyrical content and the great singing from someone like Devin Townsend. Devin Townsend leaving Steve Vai and forming Strapping Young Lad was the best thing that Devin did back in the mid 1990s. His music with Strapping Young Lad blows this music with Steve Vai away by alot. With Devin Townsend in Strapping Young Lad and with his solo projects Devin Townsend proved that he is not just a great vocalist but a top level songwriter as well.
It's so mind boggling to me that this this man had so much success immediately in the industry, and still kept going on only based on whatever the hell he wanted to make , and stay around. It seems like one hell of a life honestly
That would be Tool. Devin hasn't even gotten the true grandiosity of the psychedelic message. I do believe he is a genius though and everything he touches is gold.
It's hilarious that stupid fucking Ricky has no clue that he's sitting in front of a genius in Devin as he keeps kind of talking down to him, Like Steve Vai isn't capable of picking out extraordinary musicians. This was by far the best Steve Vai band line up, Steve, Devin, Terry Bozzio, and TM Stevens, fucking incredible and way to ahead of it's time. I played this cd so many times I actually wore 2 of them out learning the songs on guitar, fast forwarding, pausing, and replaying certain sections over and over. Devin's vocals on this album are stellar.

Hi Becky ! If you are into Devs work check out Vai's Sex and Religion, or Devs solo album Infinity, or Devin Townsend Project "KI". Completely unique brilliant music, super diverse atmospheres, and some of the best vocal performances youll ever hear :) (yes im a big fan of his since 1993😉)
Funny... Steve Vai says he wasn't looking for a good looking guy with long hair, but still he was trying to look his very best and he never lopped off an inch of his own hair...

Devin's fear of always being "that guy who sung for Vai" gave us Strapping Young Lad.

I'm not sure who that is, so... Alex Grey is potentially the Devin Townsend of whatever he does.
