So the Marantz Cinema 50 just has a new look and some upgrades like Dirac and 4 sub hook up etc over the 6015 ...performance any better? ...like does it have a different DAC? ...if it doesnt sound any better than the 6015 ...some people should wait till the Cinema 40 AVR and the $7000 processor A/V 10...if thats what you are looking for ...But I do like the new look and the Cinema 40 will have a bigger display behind that drop down panel...so its a wait and see Good luck and will be waiting to hear your views on these two beasts!
I guess it all depends on where you are currently at. If you are sitting with the prior generation there are the few points you mentioned and many will hold off on upgrading. If you are several generations behind or looking to move up in channel count, this could be the time to jump in. The performance enhancements that come with the Cinema 40 require a larger investment. The AV10 cost of $7,000 + amps will exclude many buyers. The Cinema 50 gives you the same software features as the Cinema 40 but for $1000 less. -Jon

Nicely done! Just ordered the RMC-1l on the Bring us your Dead sale as well. Most interested in your opinion of the sound quality, and if having fully differential prepro with differential amps makes much of a difference in sound quality or if it just lowers the theoretical noise floor. Thanks!
If I wasn’t running a channel, the RMC-1L would have been sufficient. I wanted to be able to fully test Emotiva’s full set of options. The new prices + the “dead” discount make it very compelling regardless of any advantage the “differential” capabilities deliver to real output differences. Less noise and higher output levels is what we are sold. I hope to better understand how that translates into my own experience by long-term use. Jon
Understood - I very much look forward to your assessment of sound quality and stability. Thanks again- your videos are very informative, particularly your detailed comparisons/spreadsheets. Can’t get this from any other channel.
I saw the deal with Emotiva for the "dead processor" trade in. However, even at the lower price I am skeptical of the $4000 price of the RMC-1. Still no DTS:X Pro support. I don't need the 8k upgrades really. But, still on the fence for a good 9.1.4 or 9.4.4 processor. AV10 looks nice, but it's $7000! I also love that Emotiva has Dirac, but will it support the 4 sub output version of Dirac's Bass control? Who knows... Marantz and Denon both 'promise' to add Dirac, but that's vaporware for the time being.
Trevor - you hit on some good points. There are not many processors (or receivers) that support front wide channels despite having more impact on experience vs additional rows of height channels (in many cases). Anthem and Harmon based products (Arcam, JBL Synthesis, and OEM models from AudioControl) are options. DTS:x Pro may be harder to find outside of top Denon and Marantz models without going over $10K. I feel what Emotiva is attempting is the perfect balance of features, premium sound quality at a reasonable price. They don’t give up, but the wait cycles have been long. It is better for consumers that they ultimately succeed. We have renewed messaging from Emotiva that good thing are coming such as DTS:x pro support, HDMI 2.1 etc. Jon
I just love this channel. I own a Sony TAE9000 ES. I would argue the best looking processor. What do you know about RMC-1 and the Emotiva upgrade path in 2023? I am going thinking of the Marantz Cinema processor. So it is $7k.
The Sony TA-E9000ES was from the last period in which Sony was focused on the premium home theater audio market. It’s replacement was a step down and subsequent models didn’t capture my attention. I understand the RMC-1 models will be upgradable for a fee next summer (projected). You will return your current RMC-1 and Emotiva will ship you a brand new RMC-1 Plus that has 80% of the boards updated including a new DAC board with TI chips and HDMI 2.1 board. If you insist of keeping your old hardware, I understand who’ll retrofit on request. The Marantz AV10 will sell for $7,000 vs a new Emotiva RMC-1 plus at $5,500. So as consumers we will want to know if the $1,500 premium the Marantz model has is justified. Jon
@@ripewave Incredible feedback. But don't you feel like the look of the Marantz AV10 is a beautiful chassis like the Sony TA-E9000ES. Sony gave up didn't they with ES and dedicated separates. Why the RMC-1 and not the XM2?

Allan- I have selected the Emotiva for several reasons. 1) the I/O balance is exactly what I need - including balanced inputs 2) lowest cost 16 channel processor with Dirac Live support and 3) Support for front wide channels 4) support for DSD 5) Fully differential and acclaimed for sound quality Of course there are the reports on software quality, lack of Auro 3d and DTS:x pro and streaming support. The Marantz delivers those items so I feel this comparison will be interesting. Marantz has what Emotiva doesn’t and Emotiva has what Marantz lacks. Arcam, Anthem and others doesn’t address all the gaps Emotiva does. So I am saving them for another round. Jon
I disagree on the weight. A jade design (Emotiva line of business) processor does not have a toroidal transformer for there pre amp stage. That is a major differentiator with Marantz 8805A type processor vs. the competition.
Yes - Emotiva has been using switched-mode power supplies for their higher end ranges. They are still using toroidal supplies for the Bas-X range. So the fact that the Emotiva weighed less was expected. I understand that a switched mode power supply can equal or better a linear power supply if the design is well executed. It is a lot easier to deliver a linear power supply that has respectable characteristics. I will be judging each model on the ultimate sound quality they output independent of the technology inside.
